Hadrat Sayyiduna Amar bin Auf Ansari – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that once Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – sent Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah – may Allah be pleased with him – to Bahrain to fetch the Jizyah from that region. Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah – may Allah be pleased with him – then returned with the Jizyah.

 

When the Ansaar heard about this, they all gathered around Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – the next morning after Fajr Salaah. When he saw the blessed Ashaab, he remarked, “I believe that you are aware that Abu Ubaidah has brought back the Jizyah from Bahrain.”

 

They replied that they were aware of this.

 

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –then mentioned, “I give you glad tidings that you should have hope in that which will make you joyous. By Allah, I do not fear poverty in you but I fear that the world will spread (and increase in you, in other words, material wealth) as it increased in people before you. Then you will become attached to the world like those before you and this world will destroy as it destroyed those before you.” (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Hayaat As Sahaabah)
