It is mentioned that the disbelievers were travelling to Madina Shareef in great pride and pomp before the Battle of the Trench. They were certain that they would certainly destroy the Muslims and wipe them off the face of the earth.

Imagine this scene for one moment! Here are ten thousand enemies coming to destroy an entire city. They were certain that they would achieve great success in their mission. On the other side, the Muslims were calmly going about digging the trench also full of confidence that Allah Almighty will certainly bless them with safety and victory.

As they were digging the trench, the Muslims came across a large boulder which was a great obstruction going forward. In fact, the tools they had also failed to break this boulder. Finally, they approached Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and mentioned their predicament. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then took the pike and saying the “Bismillah”, he struck the rock. A sudden bright light appeared in the sky and he declared, “By Allah, I have been given to keys to Syria and I am able to see the many red mansions there”.

On the second occasion when he hit the rock, one piece broke off and he declared, “By Allah, Persia has been given to me and I can see the white houses in Madaa’in.”

He then hit the rock for a third time taking the Divine Name of Allah Almighty and the rest of the rock broke into pieces. He then declared, “By Allah, I have been given the keys to Yemen. I can even see the verandas in San’a.”

When the Munaafiqs heard these three declarations, they began to murmur among themselves that the Muslims do not even have sufficient food and drink but they are talking about defeating the palaces of Persia and Rome. In fact, this Munaafiqat of the hypocrites is clearly mentioned in Surah Ahzab.

In Surah Ahzab (33), verse 12:

وَ اِذْ یَقُوۡلُ الْمُنٰفِقُوۡنَ وَالَّذِیۡنَ فِیۡ قُلُوۡبِہِمۡ مَّرَضٌ مَّا وَعَدَنَا اللہُ وَرَسُوۡلُہٗۤ اِلَّا غُرُوۡرًا ﴿۱۲﴾

And when the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, began

saying, “Allah and His Noble Messenger have not given us a promise except one of deceit.”

Yet, these Munaafiqs had no idea that only twenty five years later, all of the three empires would be captured by the Muslims. This clearly proves that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – was giving people Knowledge of the Unseen and he was informing them of what was going to happen nearly twenty five years later.
