In the treatises, ‘”Taarik-e-Tabari, Seerat ibn Hishaam”, Volume 2, and “Rahmatal lil Aalimeen”, Volume 1, the amazing story of Hadrat Sayyiduna Khubaib – may Allah be pleased with him – is mentioned.
When Hadrat Sayyiduna Khubaib – may Allah be pleased with him – was placed on the gallows, a certain person stabbed him with a spear and asked him, “Do you not wish that in your place, Muhammad stood and you were free?”
The blessed companion calmly replied, “Allah Almighty is fully aware that I do not even wish that a small thorn should harm the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – while I am spared.”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Khubaib – may Allah be pleased with him – was then told to refute Islam and if he did this, he would be freed. The blessed companion declared, “If the kingship of the entire world was given to me, still too, I will never leave Islam.”
They continued to poke his blessed body with spears, but Hadrat Sayyiduna Khubaib – may Allah be pleased with him – remained firm as a rock in his Imaan. Finally, he was hung.
Look at the immense Imaan displayed by Hadrat Sayyiduna Khubaib – may Allah be pleased with him. He was far away from home. There were no family and friends to support him but he was not afraid to stand for the truth of Islam. As a matter of fact, such is his blessed status in Islam that while in Madina Shareef, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –conveyed his Salaam to his blessed companion which was heard by everyone around. (Fathul Baari)
Hadrat Sayyiduna Amar bin Rabee’ah Zamari – may Allah be pleased with him – was sent to Mecca Shareef to retrieve Hadrat Sayyiduna Khubaib’s – may Allah be pleased with him – blessed body. As he cut the rope, the body did not drop to the floor. It seemed as if it was carried by the Angels.
Such was the immense effect of this incident that it affected the Muslims many years later.
It is reported that one of the officials nominated by Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – was someone called Hadrat Sayyiduna Sa’ad bin Aamir Umar – may Allah be pleased with him. His condition was such that sometimes he used to fall unconscious and loose his sense of direction at that moment. None of his subjects could understand why this was happening to him. When Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – asked him the reason for this, he replied that he was not ill and had no complaint. But he explained, “When Hadrat Sayyiduna Khubaib bin Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – was placed on the gallows, I was also among the crowd. Whenever I remember the words of Hadrat Sayyiduna Khubaib bin Ali Umar – may Allah be pleased with him, my body begins to tremble and I fall unconscious. I am unable to control myself and fall to the ground without realizing it.” (Rahmatal lil Aalimeen, Vol. 1)
