On the 3rd of Jamaadi-ul-Akhir 654 A.H., it is mentioned that there was a massive earthquake on the outskirts of Madina Shareef. Prior to this, there was also a loud sound which was heard by everyone. It is reported that the aftershocks of this earthquake remained for about two days. Suddenly a huge fireball was seen near the area of the Bani Qurayzah whose flames were even seen in Madina Shareef.

In fact, some people were under the impression that these flames came from the houses in Madina Shareef. The flames were huge. This frightening fire ball then began to move like a wave. It seemed like the mountains themselves were travelling like a fire ball. These flames became so intense that even the nearby mountains could be seen.

Such was the height of these flames that nearby areas could be clearly seen. The people in Madina Shareef continued to make Taubah and join in Istighfaar. All of them also congregated around the blessed grave of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. It is reported that these flames lasted for nearly a month. It also dissipated and disappeared on its own and no sign was seen thereafter.

Pertaining to this unusual fire ball, Imam Zehbi – may Allah be pleased with him – writes, “This fire has also been mentioned from authentic sources.”

Pertaining to this fire, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had also declared that, “The Day of Judgement will not appear until  such a fire will appear in the Hijaz that even the necks of the camels in Basrah will be seen.” (Taarikh Al Khulafah)

In fact, it is mentioned that when this flame was at its peak, the people in Basrah could even find their camels in the night (through its brightness).

As we have mentioned that everyone who was near Madina Shareef, all of them appeared around the blessed grave of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –and started to make Istigfaar and seek forgiveness in the Divine Court of Allah Almighty.

After all, this is the injunction of the Holy Qur’an that when people wrong themselves, they should approach the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and he should seek pardon for them in the Divine Court of Allah Almighty. In fact, by doing this, they would indeed find the Allah Almighty Most Forgiving.

Until the present day, this has always been the belief of the Ahle Sunnah Wa Jamaah. Whenever the Sunni finds himself in problems, they makes the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – a Wasilah in the Divine Court of Allah Almighty. By virtue of this report, it also proves that the people in the past were Sunnis and the Wahabi cult is certainly a new fitnah.
