Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Tabari Radi Allahu ‘Anhu narrates:

Once, I decided to travel on a journey to Syria. However, I spent a few days in such a wild and uninhabited place that I came very close to dying. Suddenly, I saw two monks who seemed to be walking towards a monastery. I approached them and asked, “Where are you going to?” They replied, “We have no idea”. I asked them where they had come from and again they replied that they had no idea. I asked them whether they had any idea where they were at this moment and they replied, “We are in the Kingdom of Allah and we are also in His Divine Presence.”

I said to myself that these two monks were certainly more aware than me and certainly had more spiritual knowledge than me and that perhaps, I should spent more time in their blessed company. I asked them whether they would allow me to stay in their company. They replied that if this was my wish, I was welcomed to do so.

In the afternoon, both of them stood up to read their prayers. I also went to one side and after making Tayammum, I also performed my Maghrib Salaah alone. They looked very surprised when they saw me making Tayyammum. When they had completed their prayers, one of them scratched the earth and suddenly a spring of water appeared and next to this spring, food was also placed. I became extremely surprised by this and they said to me, “Come closer and also join us in this food and drink.” After eating, I also made Wudu with the water from this spring. After I had done so, the water from this spring stopped. The two of them then awoke to perform their prayers. I also went on one side to perform my Salaah. This continued until the morning. I then performed my Fajr and both of them then awoke.

We then continued travelling the entire day until the evening. Obviously, I was also with them. In the evening, they also performed their prayers and one of them then walked forward and scratched the ground. Suddenly, water and food appeared. They then asked me to join them. After eating, I then made Wudu and continued alone with my Salaah. The water then stopped after I had completed my Wudu.

This is the miracle of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam!

On the third night, both of them turned to me and said, “O Muslim! Tonight, it is your turn.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Mohammed bin Ayyub Tabari Radi Allahu ‘Anhu says:

I then became extremely embarrassed and also felt a deep sense of shame. However, I did not allow that to stop and I made sincere Du’a in the Divine Court of Allah azza wajal, “O Allah! There is no doubt that due to my sins and transgressions, I certainly have no status or stature in Your Divine Court. However, at this moment, I am presenting the stature and status of Your beloved Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam which he possesses in Your Court that I should not be embarrassed and that the beloved religion of Your beloved Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam be not embarrassed in front of these people.”

Suddenly, a spring of water appeared from the ground and many types of food suddenly appeared as well. We all then continued to eat and drink until the evening. The same thing happened again at night when I made Du’a. However, when this appeared a second time, I began to weep and surprisingly, they also began to weep until our weeping became very loud.

When I managed to control myself, they asked me, “Why are you weeping?”

I replied, “I am a very sinful person and I do not have any special status or stature in the Divine Court of Allah azza wajal through which such a miracle can appear.”

They then asked how all this had appeared for me in the first place.

I replied, “I had presented in the Divine Court of Allah azza wajal the Wasila of His beloved Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam who has an immense status, stature and eminence in the Divine Court of Allah azza wajal. I had also made Du’a, “O Allah! Even though I am a very sinful person and these two people are enemies of Your Prophets religion, please do not embarrass me in front of them in the matter of religion.”

I then informed them that whatever they had seen appear from me, was through the Barakah of the Wasila of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam and not because of me.

When they heard this, they loudly remarked, “We both swear by Allah azza wajal! When we first saw you, we were extremely surprised at your state and when the time came for eating, we also made the same Du’a as you saying, “O Allah! If this person’s religion is the true religion and his Prophet is the true Prophet and through the Waslia and Sadaqah of this Prophet, please give us food and drink. Through this Du’a, you also saw that food and drink appear. This is all the miracle of your Prophet and through his Barakah. We also understood from this, that this is indeed the true religion and without doubt, this Prophet certainly has a very high status and stature in the Divine Court of Allah azza wajal. Please bring your hand forward and we swear that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah azza wajal and without doubt, Prophet Muhammad Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam is indeed His Prophet and Messenger.”

Both of them then accepted Islam. We then travelled to Mecca Shareef and stayed there for a lengthy period. When we began our travel to Syria, they also went their own way. By Allah azza wajal, whenever I think about this incident, the world becomes completely insignificant in my eyes.

Lesson

O Muslims! These people were nothing but Christian Monks. When they saw a small amount of Imaan, they were able to see the right path. Yet, look at the Muslims of today. Their life span is fast disappearing and they spent most of their day and night in disobeying Allah azza wajal. Minute by minute is fast disappearing and our eyes remain closed and our hearts remain oblivious. Certainly, incidents of this nature should be a warning to us and a lesson on the great blessing which Allah azza wajal has blessed us with through the beloved Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam.
