Download PDF: [S] The pious Governor of Madina Shareef

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr bin Muhammad Ansari – may Allah be pleased with him – was the governor of Madina Shareef during the reign of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin Abdul Aziz – may Allah be pleased with him. It is also well known that prior to this, no person born in Madina Shareef was ever a Governor of Madina Shareef. In fact, pertaining to the noble qualities of this person, Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Malik – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that, “I have never seen someone more steadfast in Shari’ah than this person.”

 

Those who have recorded the Ahadith also mention that Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr bin Muhammad Ansari – may Allah be pleased with him – was an authentic narrator of Ahadith. He learnt Ahadith from his aunt, Umrah binte Abdur Rahman. Eminent Muhaddith such as Imam Zuhri, Imam Yahya bin Sa’eed Ansari – may Allah be pleased with them –  etc. learnt Ahadith from this Saint.

 

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr bin Muhammad Ansari – may Allah be pleased with him – was extremely pious and noble and was noted for his immense Ibadah. It is reported that for nearly forty years, he never rested his back on his bed. He spent the entire night in Ibadah and used to spend so much of time in Sajdah, that clear marks became visible on his forehead.

 

Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin Abdul Aziz – may Allah be pleased with him – was a great admirer of him.

 

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr bin Muhammad Ansari – may Allah be pleased with him – was nominated as the Governor, the Qadi and the emissary of Hajj for the people of Madina Shareef. Some people did complain to Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin Abdul Aziz – may Allah be pleased with him – about this, but he replied that if he did not give this position to someone who was so dutiful in his Ibadah, who would he give this position to. He passed away in either 110 A.H. or 117 A.H. (Tahzeeb)
