It is mentioned that at the beginning, the great Saint, Hadrat Sayyiduna Zun Nun Misri – may Allah be pleased with him – used to hunt for fish. He also took had his small daughter with him.
Once, he placed his net in the river and his little daughter pulled out a fish. She noticed that the mouth of the fish was moving and decided to throw it back into the river.
When the great Saint saw this, he asked why she had thrown away their livelihood. His daughter replied, “I am not happy to eat such a creature of Allah Almighty who is busy making the Dhikr of Allah Almighty.”
Her father then asked her, “Now, what can we do?”
She replied, “Let us rely on Allah Almighty. He will bless us with such sustenance which does not make the Dhikr of Allah Almighty.”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Zun Nun Misri – may Allah be pleased with him – then left this spot and they decided to place their hope on the Divine Mercy of the Allah Almighty.
However, only at the time of ‘Isha, a complete tray of food appeared from the heaven. On this tray, there were different types of food. In fact, for nearly twelve years this tray appeared from the heavens. Hadrat Sayyiduna Zun Nun Misri – may Allah be pleased with him – was under the impression that all of this was because of his Ibadah and obedience to Allah Almighty.
However, one day, the little girl passed away and this tray stopped appearing from that day. From this he came to realise that it was because of the piety of the little girl that this Divine Blessing arrived in front of them. (Al Qalyubi)
