Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali bin Husain – may Allah be pleased with him – was the blessed son of Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Husain – may Allah be pleased with him. His title was Abul Hasan and he was also was a Hashmi and Qarashi. He was obviously the grandson of Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – and due to his immense Ibadah, he was given the title of “Zainul Aabideen.” He was a symbol of steadfastness and bravery. During the incident of Karbala he was sick, and therefore he survived the entire incident. He was also extremely generous and kind and was noted for these qualities. He was born in Madina Shareef and passed away in Madina Shareef. (Ma’aarif Islamiyah, 14/2)
It is mentioned that one day Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali bin Husain – may Allah be pleased with him – was sitting outside the Masjid with his Mureeds and admirers when a person walked past. However, this person continued to insult and abuse the great Imam. When his Mureeds saw this, they rushed towards the person to teach him a lesson, however the great Imam shouted, “Stop and do not touch this person.”
The great Imam the approached this person and softly said to him, “Nothing is hidden from, (in other words, you can see what can happen to you). Do you have any urgent need which I can fulfil?”
When the person heard the kind request, he was obviously extremely embarrassed and started to walk away.
However, the great Imam placed his shawl over the person and gave him a thousand dirhams. When the person saw the amazing behaviour and kindness of the great Imam, all he could say was, “I bear witness that you are certainly the family of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. Such generosity and munificence can only be displayed by a family of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.” (Ainul Adab was Siyaasah)
