Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah As Sanaabeh – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that they were once in the company of Hadrat Sayyiduna Ameer Mu’waiyah – may Allah be pleased with him-. In this meeting, people were discussing the issue of Nabi Ismail – peace be upon him – and how he was nearly sacrificed for the Divine Pleasure of Allah Almighty.

Suddenly, Hadrat Sayiduna Ameer Mu’awiyah – may Allah be pleased with him – told all of us to remain silent. He then said to us, “I wish to bring to the attention of you people that once we were in the blessed company of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – when a person approached him and said to him, ‘O Prophet of Allah! Whatever Allah has given you, O the one who was sacrificed twice, please give me something from it.’ When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard these words, he smiled.

The people then asked Hadrat Sayyiduna Ameer Mu’awiyah – may Allah be pleased with him, “O Ameerul Mo’mineen! Who is meant by that person who was sacrificed twice?” He replied, “When Abdul Mutallib was searching for the well of Zam Zam, he then took an oath that if he found the well of Zam Zam he would sacrifice one of his son. When the well of Zam Zam was found they took lots on which son would be sacrificed. At that moment, the name of the Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah – may Allah be pleased with him – was chosen, who is the father of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. Finally, in his place, a hundred camels were sacrificed and other person who was presented as a sacrifice was Nabi Ismail – peace be upon him.” (Tafseer ibn Katheer).

In other words, the ancestor of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, namely Nabi Ismail – peace be upon him – and his father, was once presented as a sacrifice hence the title of “Ibnuz Zaabeeheen”.
