Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair – may Allah be pleased with him – was one of the most eminent of companions. He was the first child born to the Muhaajireen after they arrived in Madina Shareef.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Amar bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – explains that he had never seen someone perform Salaah with such sincerity and devotion as Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair – may Allah be pleased with him. When he used to stand for Salaah, he stood so still that people thought that a trunk of a tree was standing. Someone said that he used to prolong his Ruku to such an extent that one could read many long Surahs of the Qur’an in this period.

It is reported that when Hujjaj attacked the Ka’ba and started to stone the Haram Shareef, he continued to read his Salaah without showing the slightest fear. One day, while he was reading Salaah, a snake fell on his son and the people in the house began to shout ‘Snake! Snake!’ but he continued his Salaah. Although his son was saved, he had no recollection of the incident after the Salaah. (As Sayr)

Hadrat Sayyiduna Urwah – may Allah be pleased with him – is considered as one of the seven eminent Jurists of Madina Shareef. He is also considered as one of the most noble and pious people among the Taaba’een. He used to complete one quarter of the Qur’an daily and also at the time of Tahajjud.

It is mentioned that once, Hadrat Sayyiduna Urwah – may Allah be pleased with him – suffered from a certain animal sting and due to this his feet became effected. The doctors informed him that his leg would have to be amputated so that it does not affect the other parts of the body. He was also advised that he would have to be given a medication through which he would become unconscious. However, Hadrat Sayyiduna Urwah – may Allah be pleased with him – refused to accept this medication and informed those around him that they were free to remove his limb while he was in Salaah. He then started to read two rak’ah of Nafil Salaah and during this time, his leg was removed. He felt no pain while they were doing this. (Al Bidaayah)

Hadrat Sayyiduna Muslim bin Yasaar Basri – may Allah be pleased with him – is considered as among the respected Jurists of Basrah. He was extremely pious. It is reported that when he stood for Salaah, no movement was seen in him. People used to think that it was a pole on which there was some clothes hanging. Maymun bin Hayyan – may Allah be pleased with him – reveals that once a complete wall on one side of the Masjid fell while he was reading his Salaah, yet it did not disturb him at all.

One of his miracles was that when he used to enter his house, the people in his house used to keep silent in respect of his presence but when he used to begin his Nafil Salaah inside the house, they used to speak as loud as they wanted because he never heard a word they were saying. (As Sayr)

Sulayman Thouri – may Allah be pleased with him – has stated that if you had seen Mansur reading his Salaah, you would think that this was someone whose soul was about to leave his body. (As Sayr).

Hafiz Abdul Haq narrates from Jafer bin Zaid that, “I was once in a Battle in Kabul and in this army, there was also Hadrat Sayyiduna Sillah bin Aseem – may Allah be pleased with him. When night appeared, I wanted to see what he does at night. When the rest of army went to sleep, he awoke and made Wudu. After that, he performed his Salaah. Suddenly a lion appeared and came and sat in front of him. I was so fearful that I climbed up a tree to see what was happening. He continued to read his Salaah while the lion continued to sit in front of him. When he had completed his Salaah, he said to lion, ‘You may leave and seek your sustenance’. After the lion had departed, he went into Sajdah and stayed so long in Sajdah that I thought perchance, he had passed away. When he raised his head from Sajdah, he began to weep like a child who is lost.” (Al Hulyah)

Due to his immense ibaadah, Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali bin Husain bin Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – was given the title of “Zainul Aabideen”. Imam Zainul Aabideen – may Allah be pleased with him – used to spend most of his wealth in the path of Allah Almighty. During the night, he used to carry food and other provisions for the poor in Madina Shareef and they never knew who had left this at their doorstep.

When he passed away and when this stopped, only then did the people come to realise who used to leave these food items at their front door. Such was his immense fear for Allah Almighty that Imam Malik – may Allah be pleased with him – and Imam ibn Ayniyah – may Allah be pleased with him – used to say that when the great Imam used to wear the Ihraam, he used to tremble with fear. When people asked him the reason for this, he used to say that, “I fear that when I say ‘Labbaik’, Allah Almighty will say ‘La labbaik’”.

Even when he used to make Wudu, his face used to become pale and again he used to tremble. When people used to ask him the reason for this, he used to reply, “Are you not aware in Whose Court I am about to present myself.”
