It is mentioned that Sultan Iltimush came into power and his capital was the city of Dehli. He was also a great supporter of the Saints belonging to the Chistiyyah Order whose headquarters was also Dehli. It is also reported that he was a Mureed of Hadrat Shaikhul Islam, Hadrat Khawaja Qutbudeen Bakhtiyar Khakhi – may Allah be pleased with him. He continued to seek spiritual lessons and direction from his eminent Peer and gained a lofty position in this regard.

It is mentioned that one day, the great Saint, Hadrat Sayyiduna Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaaz – may Allah be pleased with him, came to Dehli to visit his Mureed and Khalifah and everyone in Dehli came to meet him. However, Hadrat Sayyiduna Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaaz – may Allah be pleased with him – also noticed that his peer bhai or Mureed from the same Saint, namely Hadrat Sayyiduna Najmuddeen Sughra – may Allah be pleased with him – did not come to meet the great Saint. This was quite surprising and the great Saint decided that he will go himself to meet his peer bhai.

When Hadrat Sayyiduna Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaaz – may Allah be pleased with him – went to visit Shaikh Najmuddeen Sugra – may Allah be pleased with him, the latter complained that since the day, Hadrat Khawaja Qutbudeen Khakhi – may Allah be pleased with him – had arrived in Dehli, everyone was only talking about him and only visiting him. At the same time, he complained to Hadrat Sayyiduna Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaaz – may Allah be pleased with him – that Hadrat Khawaja Bakhtiyar Khakhi – may Allah be pleased with him – was only in Dehli at the command of the great Saint.

When the great Saint heard this, as is the behavior of the eminent Saints, he decided to make him happy and he instructed his Mureed, Hadrat Khawaja Qutbudeen Bakhtiyar Khakhi – may Allah be pleased with him – to immediately leave Dehli.

When this news reached the masses, they flocked to the streets in their thousands and began to surround the two eminent Saints. No one was prepared to allow them to leave but at the same time time no one had the power to stop Hadrat Sayyiduna Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaaz – may Allah be pleased with him – in his decision. Even the king also joined the masses and objected to this move.

However, both the Saints continued to leave Dehli. In fact, each step that was taken by Hadrat Khawaja Qutbudeen – may Allah be pleased with him, people took hold of this sand and used it as a holy relic. People also began to feel that now the city of Dehli would no longer have any Awliya among them.

When Hadrat Sayyiduna Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaaz – may Allah be pleased with him – saw the reaction of the people, he realised that the people in their masses were going to be extremely disappointed. Because of this, he then informed Hadrat Khawaja Qutbudeen – may Allah be pleased with him – to remain in Dehli. His intention was not to hurt the emotions of the masses. And this is how Hadrat Khawaja Qutbudeen Bakhtiyar Khakhi – may Allah be pleased with him – remained in Dehli.

From this incident, we also come to realise that even the rulers of the day were people who had great respect and esteem for the Awliya. This is only one king who we have mentioned in this incident. There were many other kings and rulers who behaved in the same manner. Hence, Islam in that period was considered as the mightiest of power. Today, we find that hardly any Muslim rulers even consider visiting Madina Shareef besides the Mazaars of the great Awliya. This is one of the reasons that in the present age, Muslim rulers are people who are Muslim rulers by name and nothing else.
