It is mentioned that when the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – began the message of Islam, the disbelievers asked all types of questions. Some of them asked, “What is the family lineage of Allah and from what family He came.” Some asked whether He is made from gold, silver or wood or iron. Some of them asked what type of food He eats. Ma’azallah. There were many other questions that these disbelievers asked because they could not fathom that Allah Almighty could not be seen or touched.

In reply to these various questions, Allah Almighty revealed Surah Ikhlaas to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. In this Surah, Allah Almighty clearly outlined His Divine Being and His Divine Attributes. Allah Almighty also made the path to Him very clear. He also removed Himself from all those Kufr thoughts and ideas that people had in general about Him.

In this Surah, Allah Almighty declares:

قُلْ ہُوَ اللہُ اَحَدٌ ۚ﴿۱﴾ اَللہُ الصَّمَدُ ۚ﴿۲﴾ لَمْ یَلِدْ ۬ۙ وَ لَمْ یُوۡلَدْ ۙ﴿۳﴾ وَ لَمْ یَکُنۡ لَّہٗ کُفُوًا اَحَدٌ ٪﴿۴﴾

Proclaim (O Muhammad), “He is Allah, He is One.” “Allah is the Un-wanting.” (Perfect, does not require anything.) “He has no offspring, nor is He born from anything.” “And there is none equal to Him.”

There is no doubt that in these verses, th Allah Almighty had summarised His Divine Being in such a manner that if we had to explain this, the ink and the pens would cease to exist and yet, His Divine Attributes would still remain to be explained. This clearly informs us that Allah Almighty is the Divine Being Alone and His Divine Attributes are not shared with anyone. Allah Almighty is pure of all similitude and similarities. He has no partners.

Allah Almighty is not in need of food or drink but the entire creation is in need of Him. He has always been and will always remain. He is “Qadeem” and therefore pure of being created. Hence, Allah Almighty can never be the father of anyone or the son of anyone. He has no likeness to anything and no one is similar to Him.

There are also many Ahadith which explain the greatness and excellence of this Surah. In some Ahadith, it is mentioned that it is equivalent to one third of the Qur’an. In other words, if one reads this Surah three times, then it is as if the person has recited the complete Qur’an.

Once a person came in front of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and declared, “O Prophet of Allah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, I have immense love for this Surah.” The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –replied, “It is through love for this Surah which will enable you to enter Jannah.” (Tirmidi Shareef)
