Download PDF: [S] Silent on Killing People
It is reported that once, the famous Taaba’e and Muhaddith, Hadrat Sayyiduna Yazeed bin Habeeb – may Allah be pleased with him, became very ill. At that moment, the Governor of Egypt, ibn Suhai,l also came to visit him. During the conversation, the Governor asked the eminent scholar the following question, “What happens to that person in whose clothes the blood of mosquito is found. Is it still permissible for him to read Salaah with these clothes?”
When the eminent scholar heard these words, he turned away his head with anger and displeasure. He also gave no answer to this question. However, as the Governor began to leave, he mentioned these words in anger, “Every day, you spill the blood of innocent creatures of Allah Almighty and yet today, you are asking me about the blood spilled by a mosquito?” (ibn Kalakan, 163)
This is the manner in which the oppressor and tyrant should be answered. This has also been the manner in which the eminent ‘Ulama have always behaved with the tyrants over the years.
Another example in this regard is that of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with them. One day, during the days of Hajj, a person from Kufah arrived and asked him, “Is it permissible to kill a mosquito while in the state of Ihraam.”
When Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with them – heard this question, he angrily replied, “Today this Kufi is asking me about killing a mosquito while in the state of Ihraam. Why did they not ask a question when they were killing the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.” (Bukhari Shareef)
In the latest modern age, this is also the type of manner which should be adopted by the ‘Ulama. There are many rich and powerful people who try to hide their evil and blackness by presenting questions to the ‘Ulama which tries to make them look like they are very pious and noble. But, behind these questions, there is nothing but evil and blackness. The ‘Ulama should not be deceived by these questions and should be able to reveal the true identity of these people.
