Hadrat Sayyiduna Wahb bin Mambah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:
Once, Allah Almighty commanded Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him – to travel the earth and see some of His wonders. Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him – then packed his provisions and decided to travel as commanded. On his way he came to a river and near this river, he could see a black person who was a shepherd. Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him – then asked this person whether he had any water or milk with him. The person replied that he could give him whatever he wanted.
Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him – asked him to give him some water. This person came forward and he had a stick in his hand. He then hit the rock in front of him and water began to gush from the rock. Water was then given to Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him. Obviously, Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him – looked surprised at this person and when he noticed that, the shepherd asked him the reason for his surprise. Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him – replied that he had never seen someone do something like this before.
When the shepherd heard this, he said, “If this is surprising, imagine how surprising is the fact that Allah Almighty has chosen one of His Prophets as His Khaleel. At the same time, until now, whatever I have asked Allah Almighty for in the name of His Khaleel, He has always bestowed that upon me.”
When Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him – heard this, he revealed to the person that he was the Khaleel of Allah Almighty. When the person heard this, he screamed out aloud and passed away on the spot. Thereafter, a chair of light appeared from the heavens and took this person away.
Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him – then walked towards a mountain and on this mountain he saw a small house. There was an entrance but it had two openings. When Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him – entered the house, he noticed that there was a bed and on this a person was placed who looked like he had died. He was draped in green and next to his head there was a scroll in which was recorded who this person was. It read, “I am Shaddaad the son of Aad. I have lived for a thousand years and I have defeated over a thousand armies. I have married a thousand women and have fathered a thousand sons. I have created the city of pillars which is called Iram. When the time came for me to die, I called the best physicians in the land to treat me. However, none of them was able to save me from death. Those who see me must learn a lesson never to be deceived by the world. When you see me in this state, remember that you do not have the power which I had in wealth, in power, in wives and in children, yet, I am someone who could not defeat death. Therefore, do not be deceived by the world.”
When Nabi Ebrahim – peace be upon him – left this place, he was informed that these were merely some of the wonders of this world which many have not seen before. (Nawaadir Al Qalyubi)
