It is reported that once a person tried to escape from a lion and fell into a well. The lion also fell into the well after him. When the lion fell into this well, it noticed that there was also a bear in this well.  It asked the bear how many days it had been in this well. The bear replied that it had been in this well for quite a few days. When the lion heard this, it said to the bear, “Come let us join together and eat this human and in this way, we will protect ourselves against starvation.”

The bear replied, “If we become hungry again, where will we be able to get more food? Therefore, it is more prudent that we promise ourselves not to harm this human and allow him the opportunity of finding a way out of this place for all of us because he has been blessed with intellect.”

In this manner, they spared the human being. This resulted in him freeing himself and both the animals that were trapped. It also gives us an impression that the bear seems to be more wiser than the lion. (Al Qalyubi)

The curse of not showing gratitude.

It is mentioned that once a roasted chicken was placed in front of someone. A beggar then approached that person and asked for some food. However, that person, in a fit of anger, turned the beggar away. That person was also very wealthy and influential.

However, one day, a dispute arose between husband and wife and they were divorced. The lady married someone else.

One day, while her new husband was eating, she placed a piece of roasted chicken in front of him. At that moment, a beggar suddenly appeared and asked for some food. The new husband told his wife to give this beggar the complete chicken.

When this lady gave this beggar the chicken, she also looked at him carefully and was shocked to realise that this was her first husband. She then mentioned this to her new husband. She also related the incident which had taken place once where he had turned away a poor person who had come asking for some food. When her ex-husband heard this, he replied, “There is no doubt that the beggar whom you mention was actually me. And this is the result. His wife and his was given to me. The reason is that he did not give thanks to the Allah Almighty as he should have showed thanks.” (Al Qalyubi)
