Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hishaam – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:

 

We were once in the blessed company of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and he was clutching the hands of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him. Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – then said, “O Prophet of Allah! Besides my own life, you are more beloved to me than anything else.”

 

However, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – replied, “No! I swear by that Divine Being in Whose Divine Power is my life! Not until and unless I become more beloved to you than your own life.”

 

Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – then declared, “O Prophet of Allah! Now you are more beloved to me than my own life.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –replied, “Only now, O ‘Umar.” (has your Imaan become complete). (Bukhari Shareef)

 

One of the pre-conditions of being a complete believer is that we should love, honour and respect the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – more than our own life and being.

 

Hadrat Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – has stated that, “None of you can be a true (and complete) believer until and unless I more beloved to him than his parents, his children and all of mankind.” (Bukhari Shareef)
