Download PDF: [S] He Purchased a Mansion in Jannah
Hadrat Sayyiduna Jafer bin Sulayman – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that, “One day I was walking with Hadrat Sayyiduna Maalik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – and nearby there was a most beautiful mansion which was been built. A young man who was very good looking was instructing the labourers on what to do as they built this mansion.
The great Saint then turned to me and said, ‘O Jafer! Look at the immense enthusiasm and interest this young man is taking in building this mansion. We will make Du’a that he ceases all interest for this world. I have confidence that Almighty Allah will allow this young man to be among the young people of Jannah. Come let us go and give him some good advice.’
We then approached the young man and greeted him. He was sitting and he replied to our greeting. In other words, he had no idea who was standing in front of him. However, when people informed him that the person standing in front of him was Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – he immediately stood up with respect and asked the great Saint, “Hadrat! Is there anything that I can do for you?’
Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – asked him, “Tell me young man! What is the budget of completing this mansion which you have set aside?”
He replied that it was one hundred thousand Dirhams.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – then asked him, “Is it not possible that you give me the one hundred thousand Dirhams and I can be able to distribute this among those who are most entitled for it such as the orphans and the poor and needy. In place of this, I will become the guarantor of such a mansion for you whose servants are pure and clean. It has domes made from ruby and pearls. The sand is like saffron and the floor is made from Musk. Certainly that mansion will be much larger than this one and much more luxurious. The walls of that mansion will never become soiled. It has not been built by labourers but by the Divine Command of Allah and that mansion has already been created. Tell me, will you be prepared to do this?”
The young man replied, “Hadrat, please give me one day to think about it and tomorrow I will give you an answer.”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Jafer bin Sulayman – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that on that night, Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him – was very restless. He spent the entire night thinking about this young man. During the time of Tahajjud, he also made a lot of Du’a for the young man. After the Fajr Salaah, we went to see the young man.
The young man was waiting for us. When he saw the great Saint, he displayed immense happiness and warmly embraced the great Saint. Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – asked him, “O young man, what is your decision?”
The young man simply placed the one hundred thousand Dirhams in the blessed hands of the great Saint and declared that he was very happy with this transaction and that the great Saint should please write a note in this regard as a guarantor.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – then took a piece of paper and wrote the following message which was, “Allah in Whose Name, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful. This is a guarantee written by Malik bin Dinaar for so and so. I also give you a guarantee that Almighty Allah will certainly give you a mansion better than (the one of earth) which is far greater and more beautiful and it has the following qualities. I have purchased this mansion for you in Jannah which is near the Divine Arsh for the sum of money which you have given me.”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – then handed this note to the young man. Before the evening arrived, the great Saint had also distributed all of this money to the poor, the orphans and the needy.
Forty days later, after this incident, Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – found a piece of paper near the Mimbar of the Masjid. He was extremely surprised when he saw this note because this was exactly the same note which he had given to the young man. On the other side of the note something was recorded but it was not written with ink. It read, “This is message from Almighty Allah to Malik bin Dinaar freeing him of his guarantee. Without doubt, We have given the young man everything which was promised to him by Malik bin Dinaar. Indeed, We have given him seventy times more than this.”
When we took this note and walked towards the house of the young man, we could hear people crying. When we inquired about the young man, we were informed that he had passed away the previous day. When Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – heard this, he was extremely sad. He then called the people who had given the young man Ghusal to question them.
They informed him that prior to the passing away of the young man he had handed them a note and said to the main person, “When I pass away and you place the Kafan over me, this note should be placed in between my body and Kafan. Tomorrow, on the Day of Judgement, I will implore Allah for that which Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him –had guaranteed me.” I them placed this note under the Kafan.
When the person had completed his story, Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – then removed the note from his pocket and asked the man whether this was the note. When he saw this, the man screamed out aloud, “By Allah, I swear that this is the same note which I had placed under his Kafan with my own hands”.
When Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – heard this, he began to weep and others also began to weep. Suddenly, a young man behind him said, “O Malik bin Dinaar! Please accept two hundred thousand Dirhams from me and give me a guarantee like that which you had given the young man.”
The great Saint replied, “The time has already passed. What was to happen has already happened. Almighty Allah is able to decide on His creation as He wishes.”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Jafer bin Sulayman – may Allah be pleased with him – admits that later, when Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – used to remember the young man, he used to weep and make Du’a for him. (Uyunul Hikaayah)
