Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – once mentioned, “I have a great shame on how I will be able to face Allah Almighty when I have never walked to His House.”

After saying this, Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – walked twenty times for Hajj from Madina Shareef. After he reached the Haram, he performed the Tawaaf and performed two rak’ah of Salaah at the Maqaam-e-Ebrahim. After doing this, he placed his blessed forehead on Maqaam-e-Ebrahim and declared, ‘O Allah Almighty, this servant is at Your door.’ He continued to make Du’a in this fashion weeping all the time.

When Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – exited the Haraam Shareef, he saw a few poor people who had a few pieces of bread which they were eating among themselves. He then greeted these poor people. When they saw who had greeted them, they humbly asked him to also join them in this meal. Without hesitation, Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – also joined them and but mentioned, ‘If these pieces of bread were not Sadqah, I would have certainly joined you in eating in this food. However, I am a member of Ahle Muhammad and it is Haraam for us to eat Sadqah. This is the reason that I cannot eat this food.’

He then took these poor people to where he was staying and again made sure that they have a good meal. At the same time, whatever money he had with him, he also gave them.

This proves the immense fear that Imam Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – displayed for Allah Almighty and his immense love for Ibadah. He displayed great humility and never allowed himself to have an air about him. When people used to see him and look at his behaviour, they immediately admitted that this was a true son of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. Who does not know that these were those people who had already been given news of entering Jannah. In fact, they were not going to enter Jannah just like that, they were going to enter Jannah and remain in Jannah as the leaders of the young people in Jannah.

In other words, they did not take anything for granted. Even though they knew that they were people of Jannah, both brothers displayed immense fear for Allah Almighty and continued to perform Ibadah in a manner which made others look in amazement. The story of Karbala is a clear example of this dedication to truth. Imam Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – was noted for his immense generosity and humility.

It is sad that people who claim to be the true followers of this great Imam still do not try to emulate the example of these eminent sons of Islam. When we look at the examples of these blessed people and if Muslims only had to spend one day practising on the manner in which these blessed people lived their lives, certainly, the world would be a better place and this religion would once again become a symbol of world peace and stability. It is no use listening to the stories of these great people and merely listening for the sake of enjoyment. We have to be able to take away some lesson for their lives.
