It is mentioned that Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Amar – may Allah be pleased with him – was considered as one of the eminent Mureeds of Hadrat Sayyiduna Ghous Paak, Sheikh Abdul Qaadir al-Jilaani – may Allah be pleased with him. The manner in which he became a MUREED is also very strange.

It is reported that one night while he lay in bed, he heard the Tasbeeh of five pigeons. The first pigeon mentioned:

سُبْحَانَ مَنْ عِنَدَہٗ خَزَائِنُ کُلِّ شَیْئٍ وَمَا یُنَزِّلُہٗ اِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَّعْلُوْمٍ

“Glory be to that Divine Being Who has the keys to all riches and reveals it as it is needed.”

The second pigeon mentioned:

سُبْحَانَ مَنْ اَعْطٰی کُلَّ شَیْئٍ خَلَقَہٗ ثُمَّ ھَدٰی

“Glory be to that Divine Being Who has created all things and guided all things.”

The third pigeon mentioned:

سُبْحَانَ مَنْ بَعَثَ الْاَنْبِیَاءَ حُجَّۃً عَلٰی خَلْقِہٖ وَفَضَّلَ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ

“Glory be to that Divine Being Who has sent the Prophets as His Divine Evidence and had made Muhammad the most supreme among them.”

The fourth pigeon mentioned:

کُلُّ مَا فِیْ الدُّنْیَا بَاطِلٌ اِلَّا مَا کَانَ لِلّٰہِ وَلِرَسُوْلِہٖ

“Everything on earth is defective except that which belongs to Allah and His Prophet.”

The fifth pigeon mentioned:

یَا اَھْلَ الْغَفْلَۃِ قُوْمُوْا اِلٰی رَبِّکُمْ یُعْطِیْ الْجَزِیْلَ وَیَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ الْعَظِیْمَ

“O those who are oblivious! Stand up for the Lord. He rewards immensely and is also able to pardon major sins”.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Amar – may Allah be pleased with him – became so over-awed when he heard the Tabseeh of these pigeons that he became unconscious. When he regained his senses, it was like his entire world had changed. He had a great dislike for the world and any worldly objects. He made the firm intention that he would immediately go in search of a qualified Peer.

Suddenly, a most handsome individual appeared in front of him and informed him that he was Khidr. He mentioned, “Just now I was sitting in the blessed gathering of Hadrat Ghous Paak and he declared, ‘O Khidr! Just now someone has been immersed in Divine Love. Go and bring him to me so that I can show him the Path to Allah.’

When Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Amar – may Allah be pleased with him – heard these words, he was greatly affected. He then decided to travel to Baghdad Shareef to meet the King of the Awliya. Through the miracle of Khidr, he reached the blessed city in a few minutes. When Sheikh Abdul Qaadir al-Jilaani – may Allah be pleased with him – saw him, he declared, “Welcome to that person who heard about Divine Greatness of the Allah Almighty through the lips of pigeons.” (Tafseer Ruhul Bayan, 5/164)

There is no doubt in this incident, there are many lessons and secrets which are hidden. Some of them are as follows:

This specific Sheikh did not achieve these spiritual benefits from listening to any famous lecturer or scholar. He gained this merely from five pigeons. This again shows the immense Divine Blessing of Allah Almighty. It was the words of these pigeons which created a spiritual tremor in his heart and completely changed his entire life.

Again this is the Divine Mercy of Allah Almighty that He can create a means for people from those objects which a person may have never thought about. In the same manner, through this unseen Divine Mercy, He can change a person from one who is poor into an instantly rich person both spiritually and materially.

One cannot say that because of years of Ibadah someone has become rich or famous or very pious. These gifts are only achieved through His Divine Mercy and nothing else. There are millions who have passed away without achieving this Divine Gift and there are many who received this in one single moment.

It is mentioned that for many years the King wanted the opportunity to see the great Saint, Hadrat Sayyiduna Bahlul Daana – may Allah be pleased with him. However, the King never had the opportunity to see him. Hadrat Sayyiduna Bahlul Daana – may Allah be pleased with him -never ever entered the royal court of the King. One day, it so happened that he walking past the palace when the King noticed him from his balcony. He immediately went to Hadrat Sayyiduna Bahlul Daana – may Allah be pleased with him – and held his feet and asked him, “Hadrat! How did you reach the Allah Almighty?”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Bahlul Daana – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, “In the same manner I reached you.”

The King then asked, “How did you reach me?”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Bahlul Daana – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, “In the same manner I reached the Allah Almighty”.

The King was extremely surprised and told him, “Hadrat, I did not understand a word of what you said.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Bahlul Daana – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, “What I mean is very simple. If I intended to visit you on my own, then it would not have been possible. In fact, if I intended to visit you on my own, I would have walked around the palace like an aimless person. At the same time, there is also a possibility that you would have not met me. However, if on the other hand, you called me personally, then I would have been able to meet in you in one second while others waited around me.

“In like manner, there are people who spend years and years making the Ibadah of Allah Almighty and perform all types of spiritual penitence, but some of them do not reach the Divine Court. However, when Allah Almighty wishes to call someone Himself, then within a second, He creates an excuse for that person to arrive in His Divine Court. This reason becomes an excuse through which this person arrives and yet the slave himself is unaware of what reason has been created for him.”

This is the reason that the sounds of birds and other animals cannot always be said to have no reason or wisdom. Bear in mind that all of these animals also read the Tasbeeh of Allah Almighty. Whether a person understands this or not is another story.
