Download PDF: Power & Authority of The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him)

There is no doubt that Allah Almighty has certainly blessed the Prophets peace be upon them and the Awliya May Allah be pleased with himm with the power to be able to change and control whatever they wish in this universe.

We will present the statements of the eminent ‘Ulama and Awliya to prove this fact and belief.

THE BELIEF OF THE PROPHETS

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik May Allah be pleased with him narrates that, “Once, the people of Makkah requested Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him to show them a miracle. Upon this request, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him split the moon into two and they were able to clearly see this. This continued until even the people on the mountain of Hira saw the two parts of the moon in between the mountain.” (Bukhari Shareef, 1/546)

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas’ud May Allah be pleased with him narrates that, “During the time of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, the moon was split into two halves. One half was (seen) above the mountain and the other half was seen below the mountain.” (Bukhari Shareef, 7212)

Allama Abdur Rahman Jami May Allah be pleased with him has also mentioned this in his famous treatise entitled, “Yusuf Zulaikha,” in the form of a poem. In this poem he has used the letter “Meem” to describe the roundness of the moon and the letters “Nun” to describe the fact that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was able to transform something which was round in shape to appear as a semi-circle as we see the shape of the letter “Nun”. All of this was done just by Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him pointing his right Shahadah finger at the moon. This proves the power and control of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him given to him by His Creator Almighty.

Doctor Iqbal has also explained this by saying that the blessed hand of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him became the Divine Power of Allah Almighty and, through this power, the moon split into two halves.

This incident also proves that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him also had this belief that Allah Almighty had gave him this power and command to be able to even split the moon. If Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him did not have this belief, then he would have never pointed to the moon in the first place. When we see a person that is being challenged to be able to pick up a rock, he knows very well that he can carry or lift this rock and he will certainly answer this challenge.

In like manner, when Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was challenged by the disbelievers to display such an amazing miracle as the splitting of the moon, he knew very well that he would be able to accept this challenge. Why? Because he knew fully that he had been given this power. Sadly, there are many ignoramuses in this world who still believe that he had no power or that no power was given to him by Allah Almighty! What advice can we give to people who continue to place their fingers in their ear and place their hands over their eyes?

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik May Allah be pleased with him narrates that, “Once a small container of water was given to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and he was in a place called Zawraa’i. He then placed his blessed hand inside this little container and, suddenly, (people saw) that water appeared from between his blessed fingers. Everyone was able to make Wudu with this water.” Later on, Sayyiduna Qatadah May Allah be pleased with him asked Hadrat Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik May Allah be pleased with him as to the number of people that were present and he replied, “There were three hundred or about three hundred.” (Bukhari Shareef, 1/504).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud May Allah be pleased with him once mentioned to Sayyiduna Alqamah May Allah be pleased with him that, “We used to consider the miracles of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him as a means of Barakah and you consider it a means of fear?. (Let me explain that to you) Once, we were with Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him on a journey and water became very less. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then commanded us to bring whatever little water we had with us. The people then brought a small container in which there was some water. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then placed his blessed hand inside this container and informed everyone, ‘Come towards that water in which there is Barakah and Bakarah is indeed from Allah Almighty.’ Indeed, I did see that water was flowing from in between the blessed fingers of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him.’” (Bukhari Shareef, 1/505)

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah May Allah be pleased with him narrates that, “During the day of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah the people became very thirsty. At that time, there was a little container in front of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him which he used to make Wudu with. The people then ran towards him and he May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked them what the matter was. The people exclaimed, “We do not have any water to drink or to make Wudu except that which is in front of you.” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then placed his blessed hand in this little bowl. Water then began to flow from in between his blessed fingers (like it was appearing from a) spring.”

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah May Allah be pleased with him further states, “All of us then drank from this water and also made Wudu.” Sayyiduna Saalim May Allah be pleased with him then asked him, “How many people were there at that time?” Sayyiduna Jabir May Allah be pleased with him replied, “Even if there were a hundred thousand of us, still too, the water would have been sufficient. However, at that time, the number of people were one thousand five hundred!” (Bukhari Shareef, 1/505)

From these Ahadith, we clearly come to understand that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him had this firm belief and conviction that the Almighty Allah Almighty had certainly given him the power to be able to flow water through his blessed fingers. After all, without any hesitation, he May Allah send peace and blessings upon him informed people to come forward and he also informed them to drink of that water which was blessed. Can there be any water more blessed than the water which appears from the blessed hands of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him?

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’ad May Allah be pleased with him narrates that once, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him informed everyone, “Tomorrow, I will give this flag to that person through whose hands, Allah Almighty will give us victory.” During the night, everyone was curious to know who this person would be. When morning appeared, everyone stood in front of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him so that perchance the flag would be given to him. However, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked, “Where is Ali ibn Abi Talib?” The people replied, “O Prophet of Allah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him! His eyes is troubling him.” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him commanded, “Go and call him”. When the eminent companion presented himself in front of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him placed some of his blessed saliva on the eye of Sayyiduna Ali May Allah be pleased with him. He also made a special Du’a for him. He became instantly well as if nothing had ever troubled him. (Bukhari Shareef, 1/565)

In this Hadith Shareef, the Power of the Almighty Allah Almighty was going to be displayed through the blessed hands of Sayyiduna Ali May Allah be pleased with him. After all, even Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him admits that, “There will be someone through whose hands, Allah Almighty will give us victory.” If there were latter day “intellectuals” present at that moment, we are sure that they would have also found some way of coming forward and saying that this is Shirk. After all, what need does the Allah Almighty have of displaying His Divine Power through the hands of a mere creation? But, these were Sahabi and not Wahhabi. They clearly understood that the Allah Almighty had certainly given the Muslims the power to change and control through His Infinite Grace.

The wife of Sayyiduna Utbah bin Farqad May Allah be pleased with him, whose name was Sayyidah Umme Aasim May Allah be pleased with her, narrates that Utbah had four wives. All of them were also in the habit of using perfumes so that he would be more attracted to them. However, (she admits) that the fragrance which appeared (from the body of Sayyiduna Utbah bin Farqad May Allah be pleased with him) completely overshadowed any perfume which they used and was even more sweet smelling.

At the same time, whenever he used to be among people, people used to admit that they had never ever smelt fragrance better than that which appeared from Sayyiduna Utbah bin Farqad May Allah be pleased with him. One day, someone asked him the reason for this and he explained, “During the time when Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was in this world, there were some sores which appeared on my body. I then presented myself in the blessed court of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and complained about this. He then asked me to remove my clothes and then placed his blessed saliva on my front and back. My illness suddenly disappeared and from that day onwards, this sweet fragrance has appeared from my body.” (Al Khasaais Al Kubra, 2/84)

Sayyidina Bara bin ‘Aazib May Allah be pleased with him narrates that once when Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ateeq May Allah be pleased with him had killed the Jew, Abu Raaf’e, who was a great enemy of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. This eminent companion had to jump from a very high wall to escape from this place. As he landed on the ground, he broke his tibia (leg). He then tied his leg, which was still hot, with his turban and presented himself in the blessed presence of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and revealed whatever had occurred. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then asked him, “Spread your leg in front.” When he did this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him passed his blessed hands over his legs and suddenly, it appeared as if he had never suffered any injury.” (Bukhari Shareef, 2/577)

These incidents also prove beyond a shadow of doubt that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him had this firm belief that he had been given this power to change and control by Allah Almighty. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him also had the firm belief that even his blessed saliva could heal people. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him also believed that by merely passing his blessed hands over people, they could become healed. This is also the belief of the Ahle Sunnah wa Jamaah.

Sayyidah Ayesha May Allah be pleased with her narrates that once Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him mentioned to her, “O Ayesha! If I wish, a mountain of gold would definitely be with me!” (Mishkaat Shareef, 521)

Sayyiduna Abu Raaf’e May Allah be pleased with him narrates: “Once, a goat was given to me as a present and I placed this in a pot (to prepare). Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him also appeared. He May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked me, ‘O Aba Raaf’e! What is this?’ I replied, ‘This is a present which has been given to me.’ We then prepared this goat in a pot. (After this was done), Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked me, ‘O Aba Raaf’e, give me the forearm of this animal.’ I then presented this to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. He May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then asked me for the other forearm. After this, he May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then asked, ‘O Aba Raaf’e, give me the other forearm!’ However, I replied, ‘O Prophet of Allah, this animal has only two forearms.’ When he heard this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him declared, ‘If you had kept silent, you would have continued to give me forearm after forearm until I had become silent.’” (Imam Ahmed, Daarimi, Mishkaat Shareef, 41)

The same type of incident once occurred with Sayyiduna Usaamah bin Zaid May Allah be pleased with him. He narrates that after they had completed the Hajj with Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and had arrived at a place called Ruha, a lady presented a roasted goat to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. After this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked for one forearm after the next. “I then informed him, ‘O Prophet of Allah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, there are only two forearms which I have already presented to you.’ Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then declared, ‘I swear by that Divine Being in Whose Divine Power is my life, if you had only remained silent as I continued to ask you for a forearm, you would have continued to give it to me.’” (Abu Ya’la, Baihaqi Shareef, Al Khasaais Al Kubra, 36)

These incidents prove beyond a shadow of doubt that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him could make a mountain of gold follow him. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him also proved that if he wanted, numerous forearms from one single animal could appear!

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas May Allah be pleased with him narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him has stated that, “O people! Allah Almighty has made Hajj fard upon you.” At that moment, Sayyiduna Aqr’a bin Haabis May Allah be pleased with him inquired, “O Prophet of Allah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him! Is Hajj Fard every year?” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him replied, “If I had said yes, then Hajj would have become Fard every year. And if it had become Fard every year, you would not have had the power to fulfil this.’” (Imam Ahmed, Nisaa’i, Daarimi, Mishkaat Shareef, 222)

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah May Allah be pleased with him narrates that, “Once, we were in the blessed company of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him when a person approached him and said, “O Prophet of Allah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him! I have being destroyed”. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked him, “What had happened?” He replied, “While I was fasting, I had intercourse with my wife.” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked him, “Do you have a slave who you can free?” The person replied, “No”. He May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then asked, “Can you keep fast for two months continuously?” The person replied, “No”. He May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then asked, “Can you feed seven poor people?” He replied, “No”. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then remained silent for a while. A few minutes later, someone approached Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him with a bunch of dates. He then asked, “Where is the person that was asking?” The person replied that he was present. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then informed him, “Take these dates and distribute this (among the poor).”

However, the person replied, “O Prophet of Allah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him! Shall I give it to someone who is more in need than me? I swear by Allah Almighty that between the two plains within which is Madina Shareef, there is no one more in need than my own family.” (When he heard this reply), Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him smiled to such an extent that his front blessed teeth became visible to all who were present. He May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then declared to this person, “Go and feed your family (these dates).” (Bukhari Shareef, 1/260)

Sayyiduna Barra bin Aazib May Allah be pleased with him narrates that his uncle, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bardah May Allah be pleased with him, once slaughtered an animal before the Eid salah. However, after he had done this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him informed him, “That animal has become part of the (meat which one would consume normally and it was not Qurbani). He then mentioned, “O Prophet of Allah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him! I also have a six month old baby goat which looks quiet healthy.” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then informed him, “Sacrifice this (as Qurbani) and except for you, it would not be proper for anyone else to do this (in future).” (Bukhari Shareef, 2/834)

Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Basheer May Allah be pleased with him narrates that once Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him purchased a horse from a Bedouin. Later, this same Bedouin then refused to accept that he had sold this horse to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. However, at that moment, Sayyiduna Khuzaimah bin Thaabit May Allah be pleased with him came forward and declared, “I bear testimony that you had indeed sold this horse to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him”. When he heard this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked him, “O Khuzaymah! How can you bear testimony to this (when you were not present when this transaction was going on)?” However, Sayyiduna Khuzaymah May Allah be pleased with him replied, “I bear testimony on the news that comes from the Heaven (through you). Why should I then not bear testimony with this Bedouin?” Thereafter, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him gave instruction that the future testimony of Hadrat Khuzaymah May Allah be pleased with him will be equal to two people (or two males). At the same time, in Islam, except for this blessed companion, no other person’s single testimony is equal to two people. (Al Khasaais Al Kubra, 2/263)

This Hadith Shareef and the one’s prior to this also proves beyond a shadow of doubt that Allah Almighty had given complete control and power to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him to change and control the Shari’ah as he wished.

THE BELIEF OF NABI ‘ISA peace be upon him

In Surah Ale Imran, verse 49, the Qur’an declares:

“And he shall be a Messenger towards the children of Israel saying this, ‘I have brought to you a sign from your Lord; that I make a form out of clay like a bird for you then again breathe in it and it becomes a bird at once by the Command of Allah; and I heal the born blind and the leper and I make the dead alive by the Command of Allah and tell to you whatever you eat and what you store in your houses. No doubt, in these things there is a great sign for you if you believe.”

In these verses, Nabi ‘Isa peace be upon him had the firm belief that he could actually make a bird come alive from clay and he could also breathe life into this bird! Nabi ‘Isa peace be upon him was also of the firm belief that he could bring those who were dead back to life! Even when the sceptics in his era challenged him, he took a hand full of clay and blew on it and it began to fly. Nabi ‘Isa peace be upon him also made many people come alive. He was able to heal the leper and also make those who were blind to be able to see once again.

THE BELIEF OF THE BLESSED ASHAAB

The Belief of Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him

Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him passed away in the 23rd year of Hijrah. His name is Umar, title is “Abu Hafz” and one of his appellation is “Farouq A’zam.” His father’s name was Khattab and his mothers name was Intimah. She was actually the sister of Abu Jahl whose name was Hishaam bin Mughayrah. His eight generation upwards meets with that of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him.

Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him was born 13 years after the incident of the year of the elephant. He accepted Islam in the 6th year of its revelation when he was 27 years old. Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him accepted Islam when already 40 males and 11 females had accepted Islam. Some ‘Ulama are of the opinion that he was the fortieth person to accept Islam.

Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him was martyred by a person whose name was Abu Luluh Feroz Majusi on the 26th of Zul Hajj in the 23rd year of Hijrah. It was on a Wednesday. He passed away three days later and had ruled the Muslim empire for ten years, six months and four days. Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him was 63 years old.

Hadrat Abus Sheikh in the treatise, “Kitaabul Usmah,” records from Sayyiduna Qais bin Hujjaj May Allah be pleased with him who reveals that when Sayyiduna Amr bin Al Aas May Allah be pleased with him conquered Egypt, the people in the area had a very strange tradition. It is said that they approached Sayyiduna Amr May Allah be pleased with him and informed him, “O the leader of this region! We have a very old and ancient tradition with the River Nile. Without this, the river would cease to flow. As a matter of fact, it would actually dry up and our crops are completely reliant on its water.” Sayyiduna Amr May Allah be pleased with him asked them the way in which they continued to make the River Nile keep flowing. They said, “On the eleventh night of the lunar month, we choose a virgin girl and also make sure that her parents are happy (with the gifts which we give them). We then adorn this girl with the best of jewellery and clothing and leave this young girl in the River Nile.”

When Sayyiduna Amr May Allah be pleased with him heard this, he replied, “This can never be accepted in Islam. All of this is useless and without any basis and Islam has been revealed to destroy these superstitions. Therefore, I can never give permission for this young girl to be placed in the river Nile.” After he had mentioned this, the people departed.

After a few days, the River Nile did in fact completely dry up and many people were forced to leave this region. When Sayyiduna Amr May Allah be pleased with him saw this, he wrote a letter to Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him and informed him about the entire issue. When Sayyiduna Umar May Allah be pleased with him read this letter, he also informed Sayyiduna Amr May Allah be pleased with him that he was well pleased with the answer he had given these Egyptians and that there was no doubt that Islam had come to destroy all of these satanic superstitions. Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him then informed him that with his reply, there would also be a ruqqa which he would be enclosing and that this needed to be placed in the River Nile.

When Hadrat Sayyiduna Amr May Allah be pleased with him received this ruqqa, he opened it to see what was written on it. In it was written the following words: “From the slave of Allah Almighty, namely ‘Umar, the leader of the faithful to the River Nile. I wish to know that if you flow on yourself (or through your own means), then cease to flow. And if it is Allah Almighty Who commands you to flow, then I make Du’a in the Divine Court of Allah Almighty to allow you to flow.”

This piece of paper was placed in the River Nile at night by Sayyiduna Amr Al Aas May Allah be pleased with him. When the people awoke in the morning, they were shocked to see that the river was not only flowing, but it had reached nearly sixteen hands lengths in height from its usual height. The River Nile has never ever ceased from that moment onwards. This ignorant belief of the people also ceased to exist from that moment onwards. (Taarikh Al Khulafah, 87)

Addressing a letter directly to the River Nile, which is an inanimate object, clearly proves that Sayyiduna Umar May Allah be pleased with him had this firm belief that he was not only a person who controlled the people on earth but that he also had the power to control everything around him. If Sayyiduna Umar May Allah be pleased with him did not have this belief, he would not have thought about addressing a letter to the river itself. Sayyiduna Umar May Allah be pleased with him had this firm conviction that the river would listen to his words and command.

Hadrat Khwaja Ameer Khorad Kirmani Nizaami May Allah be pleased with him writes that once Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him was on the outskirts of Madina Shareef and busy making some bricks. However, the heat of the sun was felt very strongly on his back. In fact, he felt this heat to such a degree that Sayyiduna Umar May Allah be pleased with him picked up his head and looked angrily at the sun. The people around saw that suddenly the rays of the sun dissipated and it became dark everywhere. People around Madina Shareef were convinced that the Day of Qiyamah had arrived. However, Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him once again looked kindly at the sun and its bright rays appeared once more through the Divine Power of Allah Almighty. (Sayrul Awliya, 54)

Another incident is that during his time, a major tremor occurred and the earth began to shake violently. Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him appeared outside and after praising the Allah Almighty, he cracked his whip on the ground and declared, “Stop shaking immediately! Have I not displayed justice upon you?” The instant that Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him uttered these words, the ground stopped shaking and the tremor ceased. (Jamia Karamaat-e-Awliya, 451)

Allama Nibhaani May Allah be pleased with him writes that Imam Raazi May Allah be pleased with him in his Tafseer, when writing the Sharah of Surah Kahaf, explains that there was once a fire which engulfed a house in Madina Shareef. Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him then wrote on a piece of paper the following words, “O fire! Cease with the Divine Command of Allah Almighty.” This piece of paper was then placed in the fire and it immediately died down. (Jamia Karamaat-e-Awliya, 453)

These incidents prove beyond a shadow of doubt that this eminent companion had the firm belief that the Allah Almighty had given him the power to command, control and change the destiny of things.

The Belief of Sayyiduna Anas May Allah be pleased with him

Sayyiduna Anas May Allah be pleased with him passed away in the 91st year of Hijrah. Sayyiduna Anas May Allah be pleased with him is the son of Maalik bin Nazr. His title is Abu Hamza and he is from the Bani Khazraj. He was also one of those who were considered as among the special servants (Khadims) of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. His mother’s name is Umme Sulaim binte Malhaan. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him arrived in Madina Shareef, he was ten years old. During the era of Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him he moved to Basrah so that he could educate people about Islam. Among the blessed Ashaab that lived in Basrah, he was the last one to pass away.

Sayyiduna Anas May Allah be pleased with him passed away at the age of 103. Allama ibn Abdul Barr May Allah be pleased with him states that he had nearly 100 children and some admit that he had 80 children of which 78 were boys and 2 were girls. (Khateeb; Tabrezi).

This same eminent companion narrates that, “I once saw Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and the time of Asr had arrived and people were in need of water. However, they could find no water. Some water was then presented to the Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him to make Wudu. However, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then placed his blessed hands in this container and informed people to make Wudu from this water. I also saw that water was bubbling from under his blessed hands and people began to make Wudu until everyone had completed the Wudu. (Bukhari Shareef, 1/504)

Sayyiduna Anas May Allah be pleased with him continues, “The time of Salaah was very near. Those whose homes were near the Masjid had gone home to make the Wudu and there were many people who remained behind. A container made from stone was presented to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and in this container there was also some water. He then placed his blessed hands inside this container but because it was so small, he could not spread his blessed fingers. He then placed his blessed fingers close to one another and then placed them inside this container. Everyone was able to make Wudu from this water which appeared.” Hadrat Humaid May Allah be pleased with him reveals that he once asked Hadrat Sayyiduna Anas May Allah be pleased with him as to how many people were present. He replied, “There were eighty people.” (Bukhari Shareef, 505)

This narration also proves that an eminent companion such as Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik May Allah be pleased with him also had this sincere belief that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him had the power to make water appear from his blessed fingers and that this was one of the many miracles or Mo’jizah which the Allah Almighty had blessed him with.

The Belief of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah May Allah be pleased with him

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah May Allah be pleased with him passed away in the 59th year of Hijrah. There is a dispute about his actual name. Some give the opinion that it was Abdur Rahman and others give the opinion that it was Abdullah. During the day of ignorance, his name was Abdus Shams or Abd-e-Amar. He used to have the habit of looking after little kittens, hence the title of “Abu Hurayrah.” So famous did this title become that very few people actually remember Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah’s May Allah be pleased with him actual name.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah May Allah be pleased with him accepted Islam in the same year in which the Fort of Khyber was captured and this occurred in the seventh year of Hijrah. When Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah May Allah be pleased with him  entered the blessed company of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him he spent his every moment in this blessed company. He spent his entire life seeking knowledge and lived a very frugal and poor life. He used to eat and drink very little. He was considered as one of those who had the keenest memory. Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah May Allah be pleased with him spend most of his days in fasting and most of his night in Ibadah. (Ash’atul Lam’aat)

He used to say, “I swear by Allah Almighty that I used to walk the earth without relying on anyone and because of hunger, I used to tie stones on my stomach. In this state of extreme hunger, one day I was sitting on the side of the road when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr May Allah be pleased with him passed by. I then asked him about a certain verse of the Qur’an. I only asked him with the intent that perhaps he would take me to his house (and give me something to eat). However, he continued on his journey and did not take me with him. After a little while, Sayyiduna ‘Umar May Allah be pleased with him passed by and I also asked him about a certain verse with the hope that he would also take me to his house (and give me something to eat). However, he also continued on his journey and did not take me with him.

“Finally, Abul Qasim, the Blessed One, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him appeared. When he saw me, he understood the state of my heart and smiling at me, he declared, “O Abu Hurayrah!” I replied, “Labbaik Ya Rasoollah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him”. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then instructed me to walk with him. He then walked forward and I also walked behind him. When he entered his blessed house, I also asked permission to enter. After he gave me permission to enter, I entered his blessed house. I saw that that on one corner there was a bowl of milk. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked where this bowl of milk had come from and the blessed family replied that someone had brought this as a gift to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then looked at me and said, “O Abu Hurayrah!” I replied, “Labbaik Ya Rasoollah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him!” He then informed me, “Go and call the Ahle Suffah and tell them to come to me.”

“Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah continues, ‘The people of the Ahle Suffah were the guests of Islam. They had no houses, they had no wealth or property. When any Sadaqah came to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, he used to give all of this to the Ahle Suffah and never partook of anything from this Sadaqah. However, whenever someone send a gift to him, he used to accept this and also allowed the Ahle Suffah to join him as well. He says that he also began to think to himself that this was a small bowl of milk and how will it be sufficient for so many people. He also thought, ‘If I could acquire this bowl of milk then at least I would be able to gain some strength and since I was the representative of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him in this instance, when these people do arrive (and they would be about seventy of them), Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him would instruct me to feed each one. Perhaps, there will be nothing left for me to drink. However, this was the command of Allah Almighty and His beloved Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and I had no choice but to obey this command. I then approached them and invited them to the blessed house of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him.’ When they arrived, each one took his seat.

“Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then looked at me and said, “O Abu Hurayrah!” I replied, “Labbaik Ya Rasoolallah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him”. He then instructed me to take the bowl and give each one to drink.  After each one had drunk as much as he could, the bowl was then handed over to me and I passed it on to another. This continued until everyone had drunk their fill. The bowl then came finally to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then held this bowl in his blessed hand and looking at me, he smiled and said, “O Abu Hurayrah” I replied, “Labbaik Ya Rasoollah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him”. He then declared, “Now only you and I remain”. I replied, “O Prophet of Allah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, you have spoken the truth.” He then instructed me to sit down and also drink this milk. I then began to drink this milk and each time Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him continued to encourage me to drink more. Each time as he encouraged me to drink, I found that I could drink no more and finally I declared, “I swear by that Divine Being Who has sent you with the Truth, there is now no place for the milk to even pass through.”

“I then handed this milk back to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him (bearing in mind that the bowl was still full of milk). He then praised Allah Almighty and after reciting the Bismillah, he drank the balance of this milk.” (Bukhari Shareef, Al Khasaaisul Kubra, 2/48)

This very same eminent companion further narrates that, “Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was once in a battle when the food became very scarce. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked me whether I had anything and I replied that there were a few dates in my lunch box. He then instructed me to bring them forward. He also instructed that the cloth be placed on the ground and when this was done, he took out the dates and there were about twenty one of them. He then recited the Bismillah and took each date in his blessed hands and continued to read the Bismillah until all the dates were in his hand. After this, he said, ‘Call a certain person and his friends.’ They continued to eat until they were full and then departed.  He then instructed that a certain person be called and his friends. They also became full and then departed. However, the dates remained the same.

“Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then placed this in a pouch and said to me, ‘When you wish to remove any dates, then place your hands inside this pouch and remove the dates, but do not capsize the pouch.’ Thereafter, whenever I wished, I continued to remove dates from this pouch. I also gave many dates in the path of Allah Almighty from this pouch. However, during the era of Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani May Allah be pleased with him this pouch was hanging behind my saddle and it was taken away (by someone).” (Baihaqi, Abu Naeem, Khasaa’is Kubra, 2.51)

It is reported that the amount of dates given by this blessed companion from this small pouch in the path of Allah Almighty was nearly 12,000 kilos. These reports also prove that this blessed companion also had the belief that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him could increase the Barakah in a small bowl of milk and he could also increase the Barakah in a small amount of dates. In other words, this blessed companion had the firm belief that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him could change, command and control.

THE BELIEF OF THE MUHADDITHEEN IN THIS REGARD

The Belief of Sayyiduna Imam Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him

Sayyiduna Imam Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him passed away in the year 286 Hijri. His actual name was Mohammed. The name of his father was Ismail bin Ebrahim bin Mughayrah. The last name was the name of a person who was a fire-worshipper who accepted Islam at the hands of Ju’fa who was the leader of Yamaan.

Sayyiduna Imam Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him lost his father and was taken care of by his mother very early in life. He was given a great gift by Allah Almighty and that he was able to memorize nearly 600,000 Ahadith with the full names of the narrators of each Hadith and he also knew the state of each one of them. In the Bukhari Shareef, there is 700,675 Ahadith. If we eliminate the ones which are repeated, it would make a total of nearly 4,000 Ahadith. Sayyiduna Imam Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him passed away on the night of Eid at the age of 62.

Allama ibn Hajr Asqalani May Allah be pleased with him writes that he had completed nearly 22 masterpieces, however, obviously the most famous is the “Sahih Bukhari Shareef”. Such was the manner of compiling this masterpiece it is said that before he wrote any Hadith Shareef, Sayyiduna Imam Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him used to first make Ghusal with the water of Zam Zam and then perform two rak’ah of Salaah at the Maqaam-e-Ibrahim. Then only he used to record that specific Hadith Shareef on draft. When he had completed this draft he started to compile the actual original Sahih Bukhari Shareef while sitting between the blessed Raudha Mubarak and the blessed Mimbar Shareef in Masjidun Nabawi Shareef. Sayyiduna Imam Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him also admits that he completed this masterpiece in 16.

This same giant of Islam, reports a Hadith Shareef from Sayyiduna Barra bin Aazib May Allah be pleased with him who reports that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddique May Allah be pleased with him narrates that, “Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and myself continued walking the entire night until midday of the next day. I then saw a large rock which had some shade and I placed my shawl on the floor and advised Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him to have a little rest. I also stood guard while he slept. During this time, I also managed to get some milk from a shepherd that was passing after I had been given permission to do so by this shepherd. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him awoke, I presented this milk to him. He drank this milk and was extremely pleased. We then decided to leave this place because the day was fast disappearing.

“During this time, Suraqah bin Malik also approached us. I then informed Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him that someone was approaching us. He informed me, ‘Do not fear,  Allah Almighty is with us.’ Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then made a special Du’a and this person on his horse sank into the ground till the stomach of his horse. He then said, ‘It seems like both of you have made Du’a for my destruction. Please make Du’a for my salvation and I promise that I will turn away all those who are looking for you.’ Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then made Du’a for him and the earth then released him. Thereafter, whoever he met on the road, he informed them that he had already searched in that area and whoever he met, he turned them away. The promise he had made to us, he certainly did keep to this promise.’” (Bukhari Shareef, 1/511).

Imam Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him records from Hadrat Abu Hurayrah May Allah be pleased with him who narrates that, “I once informed Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him that I had heard many Ahadith from him but that I had forgotten all of them.’ Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then asked me to spread my shawl. I did so. He then placed some of his blessed saliva on this shawl and then informed me to place this on my chest which I did. Thereafter, I never forgot any Hadith Shareef.’” (Bukhari Shareef, 1/515).

Imam Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him writes that Sa’eed bin Meena reports that he heard Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah May Allah be pleased with him narrate that, “During the time, the trench was been dug (around Madinah Shareef), I noticed the signs of hunger on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. I then approached my wife and asked her whether there was anything to eat because I had seen the signs of extreme hunger on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. She then took out a little bag and there was some barley inside this bag, (which was about four kilos in total).

“We also had a little baby goat which I also slaughtered. My wife also prepared what she had. I then cut this meat into pieces and placed it in some water. As I went to call Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him my wife also informed me not to embarrass her in front of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and his blessed companions.

“When I presented myself in his blessed presence, I softly informed him, ‘I have slaughtered a little baby goat and we also have a little barley. You can come with a few of your companions.’ However, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him announced to everyone, ‘O people of the trench! Jabir has prepared some food for all of you, come let us go.’ Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him also informed me not to open the pot until he arrived and not to prepare the bread also until he arrived. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then arrived (at my house) and he was in front of everyone. When I arrived at home, my wife informed me, ‘The same thing has happened which I feared’ (in other words, due to the small amount of food she had, she felt that she would be highly embarrassed in not being able to feed everyone).

“However, I mentioned to her that whatever she had first said to me, that is exactly what I had mentioned to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then placed his blessed saliva on the bread flour and also did the same in the pot and then made Du’a. He then asked us to bring someone else to help my wife make the bread so that the bread could be prepared in his blessed presence. He then informed us to continue taking out meat from the pot and not to place the pot on the floor. The amount of people who eat from this were about a thousand.’

“Hadrat Sayyiduna Jabir May Allah be pleased with him narrates that, ‘I swear by Allah Almighty that everyone was able to eat until every one of them had become satisfied and then they departed. However, there was still food leftover. When I looked in the pot, the same amount of food was still to be seen (as it was in the beginning). The bread flour was also the same as it was at the very beginning.’” (Bukhari Shareef. 2/589)

Imam Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him also record the incident of Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akw’a May Allah be pleased with him that during the incident of Khyber, he was so severely injured that people were convinced that he would be martyred. However, Sayyiduna Salamah May Allah be pleased with him narrates further, “I then presented myself in the blessed presence of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and he placed his blessed saliva three times on the injured area and thereafter, I have never experienced pain in my instep area ever again.” (Bukhari Shareef, 2/605)

By presenting and accepting these reports, the greatest scholar in the Science of Hadith, namely, Sayyiduna Imam Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him is also presenting his belief in that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him had the power to make a horse sink into the ground. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him had the power to command the earth to release the horse and its rider. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him had the power by merely placing his blessed saliva on a shawl to be able to make a person remember every Hadith Shareef he heard. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him had the power by merely placing his blessed saliva on flour and meat to be able to feed nearly a thousand people. Again, by merely placing his saliva on the injured part of someone, it had the power to heal this person!

The Belief of Imam Muslim May Allah be pleased with him

Imam Muslim’s May Allah be pleased with him name is Muslim bin Hujjaj Qushayri. His title is “Abul Husain” and one of his appellation is Asaakirudeen. He is from the Bani Qushayr hence he is known as “Qushayri.’

Imam Muslim May Allah be pleased with him was born in 204 Hijri and he was from Nishapur which was a very ancient area in Khurasan. He had also written many books, but obviously, the most famous among them being the Sahih Muslim. The ‘Ulama are unanimous that after the Sahih Bukhari Shareef, this is the next most authentic book of Ahadith. It is said that he had examined nearly 300,000 Ahadith before finally completing the Sahih Muslim. According to the eminent ‘Ulama, after him, no scholar of this repute in the field of Hadith has ever been born. Imam Muslim May Allah be pleased with him passed away in the year 261 Hijri.

The great Imam records the words of Sayyiduna Anas May Allah be pleased with him who narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was in a place called “Zoura” and a little container was presented to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him in which there was some water. He then placed his blessed hand in this container and suddenly water appeared from in between the blessed fingers of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. All the blessed Ashaab were then able to complete their Wudu with this water. Later on, Sayyiduna Qatadah May Allah be pleased with him mentions that he did inquire from Sayyiduna Anas May Allah be pleased with him as to the number of people present and he mentioned that there were nearly three hundred people. (Muslim Shareef, 2/246)

Sayyiduna Salamah bin Aqwa May Allah be pleased with him narrates that once someone was eating with their left hand in front of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then advised him to use his right hand. However, this person replied that he could not use his right hand to eat or drink. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then informed him that he would not be able to eat (in future) with his right hand. In fact, this person had spoken a lie out of pride. The narrator then adds that thereafter this person could never raise his right hand towards his mouth ever again. (Sahih Muslim Shareef; Mishkaat Shareef, 536)

Sayyiduna Jabir May Allah be pleased with him also narrates that, “We were once in a journey with Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and we arrived at a valley. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then walked forward to release himself, but there was no place that seemed private. He then saw two trees at the corner of the valley and he walked towards one of them. He then held a branch of this tree and commanded it to walk with him by the Divine Command of Allah Almighty. This tree then began to walk with him as a camel walks behind someone who has fastened a rope on its nose.

“This continued until Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him reached the next tree. He then held a branch of this tree and also commanded it to walk with him and it also began to walk like the first tree. When he arrived in the area in between, he commanded these trees to join each other with the Divine Command of Allah Almighty so that it can become a veil for him. Both of these trees then joined as one tree and Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was able to use this area for his own private purpose.”

“Sayyiduna Jabir May Allah be pleased with him further admits that looking at this, he sat down on one side in deep search and while he was in this deep search, he narrates, ‘I then saw Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him approaching me. And I also saw that the two trees had separated themselves and had moved back to their original positions and were also standing upright.’” (Sahih Muslim Shareef; Mishkaat Shareef, 533)

By presenting these Ahadith in his masterpiece, Sayyiduna Imam Muslim May Allah be pleased with him is also presenting the fact that he also has the Aqeedah that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him could do all of these amazing things and display all of these miracles (Mo’jizah). In other words, he also firmly believed that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him had the power to change, control and command.

The Belief of Sayyiduna Imam Tirmidhi May Allah be pleased with him

Sayyiduna Imam Tirmidhi’s May Allah be pleased with him full name is Abu Esa Mohammed bin Esa Aslamah. He is considered as one of the giants of the Ahle Sunnah wa Jamaah and was considered a master in the science of Ahadith and Islamic Jurisprudence.

It is notable that his masterpiece is included among the six authentic Kitaabs of Ahadith. The eminent ‘Ulama have said about this book that, “This masterpiece is sufficient for a Mujtahid and also a piece of writing which makes a Muqallid independent.” (It does not mean this in the literal sense. After all, it is the belief of the Ahle Sunnah wa Jamaah that everyone is a Muqallid of his own Imam among the four Imams of the Ahle Sunnah wa Jamaah. However, this treatise is such a splendid treatise which would be able to make a Muqallid find answers to his problems and questions).

When this treatise was presented to the eminent ‘Ulama of the Ahle Sunnah wa Jamaah in the Hejaz, Iraq, Khurasan etc. they displayed immense respect for this manuscript. The Mashaa’ikh have also mentioned that the reading of this blessed manuscript is also able to remove the problems of those who recite it. Sayyiduna Imam Tirmidhi May Allah be pleased with him was born in 209 A.H. and passed away in 279 A.H. (Ash’atul Lam‘aat)

This is his belief in Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him being able to change and command.

He records a Hadith Shareef from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas May Allah be pleased with himma who narrates that, “Once a villager presented himself to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and said, “How can I be certain that you are the true Prophet?” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him replied, “If I call that bunch of dates and it comes to me and bears testimony that I am the Messenger of Allah Almighty, will you become convinced?” Thereafter, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him called a bunch of dates. It broke itself from the tree until it appeared next to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then ordered it to return and it returned to its original position. When this villager saw this, he accepted Islam.” (Sahih Tirmidhi Shareef, 2/203)

By mentioning and presenting this Hadith Shareef, Imam Tirmidhi May Allah be pleased with him is merely substantiating his belief and Aqeedah that Almighty Allah Almighty has certainly given Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him the command to do as he wished.

The Belief of Allama Qadi Ayyaz May Allah be pleased with him

Allama Qadi Ayyaz’s May Allah be pleased with him name is Ayyaz and the name of his father is Moosa bin Ayyaz bin ‘Umar bin Moosa bin Ayyaz Yahsaba Sabti Gharnaati. He was a Maliki scholar and was born in 476 A.H. Allama Qadi Ayyaz May Allah be pleased with him passed away in Maraakesh, a city in Morroco, in the year 544 A.H. on the day of Jum’uah. He also relocated many years later to Granada, Spain and many of his elders also lived in Spain.

Allama Qadi Ayyaz May Allah be pleased with him was a master in the science of Ahadith, Islamic Jurisprudence, Qur’anic Commentary, etc. One of his masterpieces is the “Ash Shifa bi Ta’reefi Huqooqul Mustafa” May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. The eminent ‘Ulama of the Ahle Sunnah wa Jamaah have mentioned that this is that blessed manuscript that if it is found in any home, no harm will come to that place. A person who takes this with him on a ship, he will be protected from drowning. If a sick person reads this blessed manuscript or if it is read in front of him, he will be healed.

This eminent Imam records from Sayyiduna Abu Sa’eed Khudri May Allah be pleased with him who narrates that during the Battle of Zi Qarad the blessed face of Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah May Allah be pleased with him had been severely injured due to an arrow striking his face. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then called him forward and placed his blessed saliva on the injury. He continues, “At that moment, neither did I experience any pain and nor did pus appear on the injury. As a matter of fact, (it completely) healed.” (Shifa Shareef, 1/212)

Allama Qadi Ayyaz May Allah be pleased with him continues further that during the Battle of Badr, Abu Jahl had cut of the hand of Hadrat Ma’uz bin Afraa’i May Allah be pleased with him and he picked up his severed hand and approached Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him placed his blessed saliva on this and joined this hand once more and it was instantly joined. (Shifa Shareef, 1/213)

Allama Qadi Ayyaz May Allah be pleased with him continues further that during the Bbattle of Badr, the blessed shoulder of Sayyiduna Habeeb bin Yasaaf May Allah be pleased with him was severed so badly that it was actually hanging on one side. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then placed this it is original position and also placed some of his blessed saliva at that spot. The shoulder instantly healed. (Shifa Shareef, 1/213)

The great Imam further explains that, “Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him once placed his blessed hand on the face of Sayyiduna Qatadah bin Malhaan Allama May Allah be pleased with him. It is said that thereafter, his face shone so much so that people could see the reflection of objects on his face like a mirror.” (Shifa Shareef, 1/220)

Imam Qadi Ayyaz May Allah be pleased with him then writes, “A lady once brought her young son to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him who was suffering from a type of insanity. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him passed his blessed hands over the chest of this young boy and the young boy suddenly vomited. A black worm like object also appeared (from the stomach of this young boy) which ran away.” (Shifa Shareef, 1/214)

Hadrat Imam Qadi Ayyaz May Allah be pleased with him, by presenting these reports, also proves beyond a shadow of doubt that he also believed that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him had the power to change, command and instruct and that this power was given to him by Allah Almighty.

Question:

If this was the power of the Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him in that he could heal someone’s arm or he could instantly heal someone who was critically injured, why then is it that some companions of his were also martyred. If he had this power to heal, then no one should have been martyred!

Answer:

The answer to this question is very simple. Allah Almighty explains in Surah Al Araf, verse 34:

“And for every people there is a promise (been), then when their term will come, they cannot remain behind for an hour nor will they get ahead of it.”

In Surah Munaafiqun, verse 11, the Qur’an declares:

“And Allah will never grant respite to any soul when its appointed time has come;”

From this we also come to understand that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was fully aware that a certain person’s time had not yet come to an end, hence he was able to heal them. When he knew that their time had been completed in this world, then he also knew this very well. This also proves that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him knew exactly the time of death of everyone. And this knowledge was given to him by the Almighty Allah Almighty.

The Belief of the Compiler of the “Mishkaat Shareef”, Hadrat Allama Khateeb Tabreezi May Allah be pleased with him

Hadrat Allama Khateeb Tabreezi May Allah be pleased with him records from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar May Allah be pleased with him who narrates that, “We were with Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him on a certain journey when a villager approached. When he presented himself in front of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked him, “Do you bear testimony to the fact that besides Allah Almighty, there is no deity worthy of worship and that Muhammad is the servant and Messenger of Allah Almighty?”

The villager asked, “Who will bear testimony with me on these issues except you?” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him informed him that the bulbul tree will also bear testimony to this. When he said this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him also called this tree forward. This tree was in one corner of the valley. This tree then came forward tearing the ground in front of it until it presented itself in front of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then asked this tree to bear testimony to his words three times and on three occasions, this tree bore testimony as he instructed it. This tree then returned to its original position.

Hadrat Allama Khateeb Tabreezi May Allah be pleased with him, by mentioning this report, is also proving his Aqeedah and belief that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him could command, change and instruct anything in the universe. In this incident, the tree approached at his command.

The Belief of Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti Shafi May Allah be pleased with him

Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti Shafi’s May Allah be pleased with him name was Abdur Rahman. His title was Jalaaludeen and his appellation was Abul Fadl. He was born in the town of Suyut on the 1st of Rajab 849 A.H. This town is also on the outskirts of Egypt. When Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti Shafi’s May Allah be pleased with him was 5 years old, his father passed away and as per the advice of his father, a few eminent scholars took the responsibility of taking care of him and making sure that he had a solid Islamic foundation. Among them was the eminent Saint, Sheikh Kamaaludeen ibnul Hummaam Hanafi May Allah be pleased with him, who gave his complete attention to this young child.  When Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti Shafi’s May Allah be pleased with him was only 8 years old, he became a Haafiz of the Qur’an and during this age, he had also mastered various other renowned manuscripts of Islam.

Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti Shafi May Allah be pleased with him is considered as one of the greatest scholars of Ahadith in his era and also admits that he knew by memory over 200,000 Ahadith. Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti Shafi’s May Allah be pleased with him also mentions that if had the opportunity of knowing more, he would have memorized them as well. The great Imam has written more than 300 books and was also considered the Mujaddid of his era. Among his masterpieces are such works as “Tafseer Jalalain,” “Tafseer Al Itqaan,” “Khasaais Kubra,” “Taarikhul Khulafa,” etc.

At the age of 40, Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti Shafi May Allah be pleased with him separated himself from everyone and adopted total seclusion. In this period, he was completely engrossed in spiritual penitence, writing and total Ibadah. He passed away at the age of 63. It is said that his hand became a little swollen and he passed away soon after this.

Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti Shafi May Allah be pleased with him records the following Hadith Shareef from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas May Allah be pleased with himma, who narrates that once, “A few landlords from Hadramaut approached Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and among them was also Ash’as bin Qais. They mentioned that they had concealed something in their hearts. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him heard this, he replied, “Glory be to Allah Almighty! This is the work of a fortune teller and the ultimate destiny of a fortune teller and any news of fortune telling is the Fire of Hell.” These people then asked, “How then will we come to know that you are the Prophet of Allah Almighty?” Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then picked up a hand full of pebbles and said to them, “These pebbles will bear testimony that I am the Prophet of Allah Almighty.” Suddenly these pebbles began to read the Tasbeeh in his blessed palms. When these people heard this, they also declared, “We also bear testimony that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah Almighty”. (Khasaa’is Kubra, 2/75)

There are many Ahadith Shareef which clearly prove that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was fully aware of the secrets in people’s heart. The only reason that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him mentioned that revelation of this nature would appear as the words of “fortune tellers” is because if Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him instantly informed them of what was in their hearts, they would have felt that he was a mere fortune teller. Therefore, as a miracle (Mo’jizah), Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him made these little stones bear testimony of his Prophethood which a fortune teller would never have been able to do.

Sayyiduna Ukaashah bin Mohsin May Allah be pleased with him narrates that, “During the Battle of Badr, my sword broke. Thereafter, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him handed me a piece of stick and suddenly it was transformed into a sword (which looked) white in (colour). I then continued to fight with this amazing sword until Allah Almighty defeated the Mushriks. This same amazing sword was always with Sayyiduna Ukaashah May Allah be pleased with him until he passed away.” (Baihaqi Shareef, Ibn Asaakir, Khasaa’is Kubra, 1/205)

Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti Shafi May Allah be pleased with him continues to record. “During the Battle of Uhud, the sword of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Jahsh May Allah be pleased with him broke. Thereafter, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him gave him a branch of a date tree. This then became a sword in his hand.” (Baihaqi Shareef, Khasaa’is-e-Kubra, 1/217)

Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti Shafi May Allah be pleased with him also records the incident of Sayyiduna Abu Umara Ansari May Allah be pleased with him, who narrates that, “We were once in a battle in the blessed company of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him.  One day we became extremely thirsty. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then requested a bowl which was then placed in front of him. He then placed a little water in this bowl and made washed his blessed mouth. He then read whatever the Almighty Allah Almighty wanted him to read. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then placed his smallest finger in this bowl. I swear by Allah Almighty that I saw a fountain appearing (from this little finger) like it was appearing from a spring. He then instructed people to (use this water). The people then drank this water and also made their animals drink as well. They also filled their own water containers.” When he saw this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him also smiled until even his blessed teeth became visible (to everyone).” (Abu Nuaim, Khasaa’is-e-Kubra, 2/42)

The great Imam continues to report the incident of Sayyiduna Arbaas bin Saariyah May Allah be pleased with him. This blessed companion narrates that one night during the expedition of Tabuk Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him asked Sayyiduna Bilal May Allah be pleased with him, “O Bilal! Do you have anything to eat?” He replied, “O Prophet of Allah! I swear by Allah Almighty that my lunch box is empty.” However, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him instructed him, “Look carefully and also empty your lunch box.” Everyone also emptied their lunch boxes and after all of this, only seven dates appeared. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then placed this on a eating cloth and then placed his blessed hands over them. He then informed them, “Recite the Bismillah and then eat.” Each one of us then began to eat from under the blessed palms by taking one at a time. Sayyiduna Bilal May Allah be pleased with him also admits that, “As a I continued to eat, I was placing the seeds in my left hand. However, after my hunger had disappeared, I noticed that I had fifty seven seeds in my left hand. In similar manner, my other two companions also continued to eat till they were also satisfied. When we had completed eating, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then raised his blessed hands and the seven dates were still the same.

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then declared, “O Bilal! Take care of these dates, perhaps it will help at another time. Do not eat anything from it.” Sayyiduna Bilal May Allah be pleased with him then admits that no one ate any dates from those dates and on the next day when the time came to eat something, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then called for those seven dates. He then placed his blessed hands on these dates and then told us to read Bismillah and eat. Now we were ten people and everyone’s hunger was satisfied. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him finally removed his hand, there were still seven dates on the eating cloth. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then declared, “O Bilal! If I did not feel shyness in the Divine Court of Allah Almighty, then we would have continued to eat these seven dates until we arrived in Madina Shareef.” He then gave those seven dates to a young boy (who was present) and this young boy continued to eat these dates as he walked away. (Abu Nuaim, Ibn Asaakir, Khasaa’is-e-Kubra, 1/275)

The great Imam, Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Jalaaludeen Suyutwi May Allah be pleased with him, by presenting these Ahadith and reports, is clearly proving to us his belief that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was given the power by the Almighty Allah Almighty to change, command and instruct.

A scholar of Deoband, by the name of Mohammed Haneef Ghangohi, writes, “A special Khadim (servant) of Hadrat Jalaaludeen Suyutwi May Allah be pleased with him, a person by the name of Mohammed Ali Mubaarak, reveals the following incident. He says: “During the time of Qaylulah which is about midday, the great scholar mentioned to me, ‘Do not reveal this secret until I pass away and if you do not reveal it, then today, we will perform the Asr Salaah in Makkah Shareef.’ I then informed him that, ‘Certainly, I will not reveal it.’ He then told me to close my eyes and hold his hand. We then walked about 27 steps forward and he then informed me to open my eyes. When I opened my eyes, I noticed that we were in front of Baab-e-Mu’allah. We then went to the Holy Ka’ba and performed the Tawaaf. We also drank some Zam Zam as well. He then looked at me said, ‘Do not be surprised by this, the earth has been folded for us. However, what is surprising is that there are many people from Egypt who know me and who have settled in the Haram Shareef but they cannot recognize me.’ He then asked me whether I wanted to return with him or return with the other Hujjaj. I mentioned that I wanted to return with him. We then walked towards Baab-e-Mu’allah and he told me to close my eyes. We then walked about 7 steps forward and when I opened my eyes, we were in Egypt.” (Ah waal-e-Musannafeen, 46).

This also proves the Aqeedah of Sayyiduna Jalaaluden Suyuti May Allah be pleased with him in that he also firmly believed that Allah Almighty had given the Awliya the power to travel the earth in a few seconds.

The Belief of Zubdatul Aarifeen, Hadrat Allama Shatnufi May Allah be pleased with him

Imam Dhahabi May Allah be pleased with him, in his treatise “Tabqaatul Muqarra’een,” and Khaatimul Huffaaz Allama Jalaaludeen Suyuti May Allah be pleased with him in his “Husnul Muhaadirah fi Akhbaar Al Misr wal Qaahirah” has termed Hadrat Allama Shatnufi May Allah be pleased with him an Imam who was unmatched in his era.

This same great Imam, Hadrat Allama Shatnufi May Allah be pleased with him, states that, “I heard the great Awliya in the past explain that there were four Saints who had the amazing quality of being able to cure someone who was blind from birth and also those who had white skin disease (vitilago) from birth. They were Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilaani, Sheikh Baqa bin Batu, Sheikh Abu Sa’eed Qaylawi and Sheikh Ali bin Heeti May Allah be pleased with himm.” (Bahjatul Asraar Shareef, 63)

Hadrat Allama Shatnufi May Allah be pleased with him writes further, “I have also seen four such eminent Saints who are able to change (the state of people) from their graves as when they were in this world. They are Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Qaadir Jilani, Hadrat Sheikh Ma’ruf Kharkhi, Hadrat Aqeel Munji and Hadrat Sheikh Haya bin Qais Haraani May Allah be pleased with him.” (Bahjatul Asraar Shareef, 63)

Introducing Hadrat Sheikh Ali bin Heeti May Allah be pleased with him, Hadrat Allama Shatnufi May Allah be pleased with him writes, “He was among those four eminent Saints in Iraq whom people referred to as ‘Mashaa’ikh-e-Baraa’a.In other words, they were able to cure the blind and also the one suffering from vitilago. The other three were Sheikh Abdul Qaadir Jilani, Sheikh Baqa bin Batu and Sheikh Abu Sa’eed Qaylawi May Allah be pleased with him.” This has also been mentioned again in the “Bahjatul Asraar Shareef” on page 153.

In these few words, Hadrat Allama Shatnufi May Allah be pleased with him has clearly informed everyone about his belief that there were four Saints which he heard of who people genuinely believed could cure the person who was not only blind, but that they could do this even while they were in their graves. Hadrat Allama Shatnufi May Allah be pleased with him also mentions that this was not only his belief, but the belief held by Muslims in the past as well.

Hadrat Allama Shatnufi May Allah be pleased with him presents a long chain of narrators and then narrates that once Hadrat Sheikh Hayat Haraani May Allah be pleased with him went for Hajj. At one place the entire caravan stopped and this eminent Sheikh, who was with his servant, also decided to rest under a Babul tree. (This is a tree which has long thorns which appears on its stems). Then, his servant asked him, “O my master, I wish to eat some fresh dates.” The great Saint told him to shake the Babul tree. However, this servant informed him that this was a Babul tree and not a date tree. But the great Saint insisted that he shake the tree. When he did this, fresh dates fell from the tree. Everyone in the caravan continued to eat these dates till they were full. They then departed from this place. (Bahjatul Asraar Shareef, 182)

Hadrat Allama Shatnufi May Allah be pleased with him also reveals another story that one of the Mureeds of Hadrat Sheikh Ali bin Idris May Allah be pleased with him narrates: Once a certain Governor arrived in our area and he was extremely cruel and oppressive to everyone. I went to see the eminent Sheikh and he was camped at a place called Yaqubah. However, due to his immense awe and spiritual greatness which could be seen on him, no one mentioned anything about the cruel Governor to him. However, on the fourth evening when everyone was sitting around the Sheikh after the Maghrib Salaah had been completed, the great Sheikh saw a bow and arrow in the hands one of his Mureeds and asked him to hand it over to him. This Mureed then gave the bow and arrow to the Saint. The Saint then placed the arrow in the bow and looking at me he asked, “Shall I release the arrow?” I replied, “O my master! If you wish, you may release the arrow.” He then left the bow and arrow on the ground. On the third occasion, he picked up the bow and arrow and looking at me he asked, “Shall I release the arrow?” I replied, “O my master, as you wish”. He then released the arrow and it hit a tree which was in front of us. The distance between him and the tree was only about four or five lengths in distance. He then said, “I have released the arrow and it has pierced the neck of this oppressive Governor.” When we heard this, all of us shouted the Takbeer. The owner of the bow and arrow then stood up and retrieved his bow and arrow from the Saint.

In the morning, we heard the news that during the previous evening after the Maghrib Salaah, this same Governor was sleeping on the roof when suddenly an arrow appeared from no where and pierced his neck. People reported that he died instantly from this. (Bahjatul Asraar Shareef, 230)

By Hadrat Allama Shatnufi May Allah be pleased with him presenting these incidents and reports also presents his beliefs which is that Allah Almighty has also given power to the Awliya that they can change, control and affect things from anywhere.

The Belief of Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi Bukhari May Allah be pleased with him

Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi Bukhari’s May Allah be pleased with him name was Abdul Haq. His father’s name was Saifudeen bin Sa’adullah Turk Dehlwi Bukhari. His forefathers came from Bukhara and settled in Dehli. He was born in the month of Muharram 958 A.H. He learnt to read the Qur’an in two or three months and within a month, he could read and write. He spent seven or eight years acquiring knowledge from eminent scholars of his era and the amazing thing is that when he was leaving, they informed him that he owed them nothing because they had achieved immense advantage from his company!

Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him then travelled to the Haramain Shareefain and started to learn Hadith from the eminent Saint and scholar Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Wahab Mutaqqi May Allah be pleased with him. He also stayed three months in Madina Shareef and then returned to Makkah Shareef to complete the study of the “Mishkaat Shareef.”

Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him is considered as the founder of Hadith learning in India. It was through him that the science of Hadith spread throughout the Indian subcontinent region. Some of his masterpieces include “Lam’aat Shahrah Mishkaat”, “Ash’atul Lam’aat,” “Sharah Mishkaat,” “Madaarijun Nubuwah,” “Sharah Sifrus Sa’aadat,” “Sharah Futuhul Ghaib,” “Jazbul Qulub,” “Akhbaarul Akhyaar,” “Zubdatul Asaar,” “Ma Thabata minas Sunnah,” etc.

Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him was also blessed with seeing Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him many times in his dream. He passed away in 1052 A.H.

Describing his belief about the amazing qualities of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, he explains, “There is no doubt that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was given the keys to wealth and riches and this was handed over to him. Among the apparent signs of this was that the entire wealth and riches of both Persia and Rome came into the control of the blessed Ashaab. In its internal sense, it signifies the riches of all creation and that he has been given the control of the sustenance of all creation and that he also has to power to change and educate creation both internally and externally.” (Madaarijun Nubuwah, 1/130)

In the “Mishkaat Shareef,” page 84, there is a Hadith Shareef which is narrated by Sayyiduna Rabee’ah bin Ka’ab May Allah be pleased with him. He narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him once instructed him to ask “whatever he wished for”. He replied that he wanted to be a companion of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him in Jannah. Not only was this given to him, but Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him also asked him to ask for something else.

Explaining this Hadith Shareef, Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him explains: “By declaring that a person should ask for whatever he wished for clearly proves that everything is within the control of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. Therefore, a person can ask for whatever he wishes. In other words, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him can give a person whatever he wishes for with the Divine Permission of Almighty Allah Almighty. The reason is that the existence of the world is through his Prophetic grace and the knowledge of the Lahw and Qalam is merely one part of his immense knowledge. If one wishes for the good of this world and the next, one needs to present oneself in humility in his blessed court and ask for whatever one wishes.” (Ash’atul Lam’aat, 1/396)

Explaining the complete control which has been given to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him writes: “The affairs of the Jinn and mankind and (the affairs) of the entire universe and the control thereof has been bestowed upon Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him.” (Muqaddimah, Ash’atul Lam’aat, 1/107)

Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him, explaining the power which has been given to the eminent Saints, further explains, “Hadrat Sheikh Ali bin Heeti May Allah be pleased with him is among those four Saints who are considered among the “Buru’a”. In other words, the Mashaa’ikh who are able to cure. They are also able to cure someone who is blind from birth and also someone who has vitilago (white skin patches). The others are Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Qaadir Jilani, Hadrat Sheikh Baqa bin Batu and Hadrat Sheikh Abu Sa’eed Qaylawi May Allah be pleased with himm.” (Zubdatul Asaar, 9)

After the Saints pass away, Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him explains their state: “Hadrat Sheikh Ali Qarashi has stated that, ‘I have seen four such Saints who, although being in their graves, are able to change (things) in this world and are able to change things as a person who is alive is able to change things. The are Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Qaadir Jilani, Hadrat Sheikh Ma’ruf Kharkhi, Hadrat Sheikh Aqeel Munji and Hadrat Sheikh Hayyaat bin Qais Haraani May Allah be pleased with him.” (Zubdatul Asaar, 9)

Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him has also recorded the same in his “Ash’atul Lam’aat” on page 715. These words of the great Sheikh clearly proves to us that he also had the firm belief that Allah Almighty had blessed Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him with the complete control of the universe and this blessing has also being given to the Awliya while they are in this world and also after they pass away.

The Belief of Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him

Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him narrates a story about Hadrat Khalifah Abul Qasim Akbar Abaadi May Allah be pleased with him, who was explaining to his Mureeds about the life and existence of the Awliya while they were travelling for Hajj on a boat. At one moment, Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him was explaining to them about the power of the Awliya and how they were also able to walk on water and that within a short span of time they were able to travel great distances when the Captain of this boat interjected. He completely refuted all of these things and also mentioned that he had heard many lies of this nature before. The Captain also mentioned that there was no basis for such things. When the Sheikh, Hadrat Khalifah Abul Qasim Akbar Abaadi May Allah be pleased with him, heard this, he immediately plunged into the water.

When the people saw this, they began to insult the Captain and even he became embarrassed and guilty of his actions. He thought to himself that it was because of his sayings that this pious person had committed suicide. However, at that precise moment while everyone was in great sadness and regret, Hadrat Khalifah Abul Qasim Akbar Abaadi May Allah be pleased with him shouted, “Do not become regretful. See, I am also able to walk on water.” When the common people and the Captain saw this, they promised never to insult the Awliya in future and all of them also became sincere followers of this Saint. After they had made Taubah, Hadrat Khalifah May Allah be pleased with him once more returned to the boat.” (Anfaasul Aarifeen, 77)

Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him writes: “Rehmatullah Kashaf Douzi reports that, ‘Once, Hadrat Sheikh Abur Raza Mohammed May Allah be pleased with him was sitting in a Masjid and I was also standing in front of him below a tree. A person appeared and said to him, ‘It is said that when someone came in front of Hadrat Bayazid May Allah be pleased with him, they used to become so intoxicated by his spiritual power that when he looked at them some of them even passed away in this state. In these times, we do not see things like this”. When the Saint heard this, he replied, “Bayazid used to remove the souls of people and hardly placed them back however, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him has placed me under the spiritual shadow of his blessed heart and not only has he educated me but has also given me the power to take away a person’s soul and to return it whenever I wish.”

He then looked at me and took away my soul and I fell on the ground dead. I was completely oblivious of this world except that I could see that I was drowning in a large ocean. He then asked the person next to him, ‘Look at him, if he dead or alive?’ The person looked carefully and said, ‘He is dead.’ He then asked the person, ‘If you wish, I can bring him back from the dead or let him be in this dead state?’ (By now, the person had already learnt his lesson) and humbly he said to this Sheikh, ‘It would be an act of great kindness on your behalf if you bring him back to life.’ The Sheikh then looked at me and I immediately stood up. Everyone who was present were extremely surprised and shocked at the power displayed by this Sheikh.’” (Anfaasul Aarifeen, 207)

Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him writes: Once, Sayed Burhan Bukhari was suffering from severe cramps in his colon. He was extremely stressed and in pain. This was brought to the attention of Hadrat Sheikh Mohammed May Allah be pleased with him. He then went to the house of Sayed Burhan and sat at his head side and withdrew this pain and sickness in such a manner that he was instantly cured. However, there were times when this same Sheikh used to also suffer from this pain later in life. (It gives one the impression that he withdrew this pain from this person and placed it on himself!). (Anfaasul Aarifeen, 367)

Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him writes further: The son of Hadrat Sheikh Ahmed Nakhli May Allah be pleased with him, namely Abdur Rahman Nakhli, explains that, “No child of his grandfather used to remain alive. He was obviously extremely worried by this. When Sheikh Ahmed was born, he requested the Awliya to make Du’a for him and also sought their spiritual power and assistance. Every Jum’uah, he used to send Sheikh Ahmed to the court of Hadrat Sheikh Taaj Sambhali May Allah be pleased with him. Once, after a few moments, Sheikh Taaj Sambhali May Allah be pleased with him, turning to the servant that used to bring Sheikh Ahmed, remarked, “This child is not like you. He is certainly greater than you in status and degree even though he may be younger than you.”

When the servant returned home, he informed the father of Sheikh Ahmed of what Sheikh Taaj Sambhali had said about his young son. When the father heard this, he said to the servant, “Go back to Sheikh Sambhal May Allah be pleased with him and inform him that I have given my life for this son and that he should implore the Saint to plead on his behalf in this matter.”

When Sheikh Sambhal May Allah be pleased with him heard this request, he remained silent for a while. Thereafter, he said to the servant who had brought this message, “Inform your master that his plea has been accepted and that the father of this boy has been given three months to prepare for the Hereafter.” This is exactly what happened. Within a span of three months, the father of Sheikh Ahmed Nakhli passed away and Sheikh Ahmed Nakhli lived till the age of 90.” (Anfasul Aarifeen. 393)

These incidents clearly prove the belief and Aqeedah of Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him. It proves beyond a shadow of doubt that the Almighty Allah Almightyhas given the Awliya the power to change, command and instruct in this universe.

He clearly informs us through these statements that even they had the power to bring a dead person back to life. They also had the power to increase and decrease a person’s life span. If Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddtih Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him did not have these beliefs, he would not have mentioned this incidents in his writings.

Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him writes: “There are also many incidents of amazing spiritual powers which have been attributed to the Naqhshbandi Awliya as well. They are steadfast in fulfilling whatever needs to be fulfilled. They are able to give these powers to their spiritual servants as per the status of that person. They are able to create power in this. They are able to remove the sickness of any person. They are able to give the person the power to make Taubah. They are able to also change the state and condition of the hearts of people so that their hearts becomes elevated and powerful. They are able to change the thoughts of people so that the reality of events become manifest to them. They are fully aware of the Awliya who are still alive and those who have passed away. They are fully aware of the dangers in the hearts of people and the thoughts which affect their hearts. They are able to reveal what is to occur in the future. They are able to remove any calamity that may befall someone. Besides this, they have many other powers. O those who read this manuscript, I will also explain a few other incidents as examples.” (Shifa’ul Aleel translation of “Al Qolul Jameel”).

Shah Wali’ullah Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him writes: “My father narrates: Once near the area of Akbarabad, after returning from classes, (my teacher at that time being Mirza Mohammed Zaahid), I was walking along a small lane and I was reading the poem of the great Saint and poet Sheikh Saadi Shiraazi May Allah be pleased with him as I walked along. The translation being:

‘If there is anything else which you remember besides the beloved, then you are wasting your life span. Besides learning the lesson of true love whatever else you learn, it is all false. O Saadi! What else is recorded in the manuscript of the heart, this should be wiped away. That knowledge which does not show the path of truth, it is nothing but ignorance.’

(Although, we have presented the translation of the last line), the Saint admits that he could just not remember this last line. I became extremely disappointed in this. Suddenly a Faqeer appeared. He had a tan complexion with long hair as a zulf and he said to me: Ilme keh raah-e-haq naa numaa yed jahaalat ast.’

I then thanked this Faqeer for this great favour of reminding me of the last line and that he had certainly removed a great stress from my mind. I then presented some paan to him. He smiled and said, ‘Is this the payment for reminding you of the last line?’ I replied, ‘No! This is merely a present and a show of gratitude to you.’ Hetold me that he did not eat paan. I then asked, ‘Is there any Shari’ah prohibition on eating paan and is it something which restricts the increase in status in the path of spiritualism? Please advise me so that I can also stop eating it.’ He said, ‘There is no such thing as that, however, I do not eat paan.’

He then said to me that he needed to return quickly. He then took one single stride and this stride was until the end of the lane. I immediately realised that this was not an ordinary person and it seemed like the soul of a Saint who had taken the appearance of a human. I then shouted, ‘“At least tell me your name so that I can remember you when I am making Fatiha.’ He replied, ‘This Faqeer is called Saadi.’ (Anfaasul Aarifeen, 112)

By Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlwi May Allah be pleased with him presenting these types of incidents is also proving to us that even after the Awliya pass away, they are able to appear to people and they also have the power to help and assist people. In other words, they are able to change, command and instruct.

The belief of Zubdatul ‘Urafaa, Hadrat Allama Nabhaani May Allah be pleased with him

Hadrat Allama Nabhaani’s May Allah be pleased with him short life will be explained under the issue of Haazir and Naazir.

Hadrat Allama Nabhaani’s May Allah be pleased with him writes that Hadrat Sayyiduna Sufyan Thouri May Allah be pleased with him narrates, “Hadrat Shaybaan Rai May Allah be pleased with him and myself were once travelling for Hajj. At one place a lion appeared in front of us. I said to Hadrat Shaybaan, ‘This little dog has become an obstacle in our part.’ He replied, ‘Sufyan! There is no need to fear.’ When the lion heard these words, it began to shake its tail as a dog would do. Hadrat Shaybaan May Allah be pleased with him then held it by its ear and moved it to one side. I then said to him that this was nothing but showing off. He (smiled and said), ‘O Sufyan where is the show off in this? I certainly do not like to show off. If I wanted to show off, I would have placed our things on its back (to carry), until we reached Makkah Shareef!’” (Jamia Karaamat Awliya, 474)

Hadrat Allama Nabhaani’s May Allah be pleased with him writes: “Some people became the guests of Hadrat Mohammed bin Ahmed Hamduwi May Allah be pleased with him. He then presented some bread made from fine flour and some fried meat as well. However, they said that they do not eat this. He then asked them what they ate. They replied that they only eat vegetable. He then presented vegetable to them and continued to eat the meat himself. These people then spent the entire night in Ibadah while Hadrat Mohammed bin Ahmed Hamduwi May Allah be pleased with him slept the entire night. In the morning, they performed the Fajr Salaah with this Saint and decided to go sight-seeing after this. The great Saint also accompanied them. When they reached a large lake, Hadrat Mohammed bin Ahmed Hamduwi May Allah be pleased with him then placed his Musallah on the water and read some Nafil Salaah. After he had completed his Salaah, he returned to the shore and there was no sign of water on his Musallah. He then said to these people, “This is the after effect of eating meat, where is the after effect of your people eating vegetable?” (Jamia Karamaat-e-Awliya, 481).

Hadrat Allama Nabhaani’s May Allah be pleased with him writes: “Once a lady took her little child to visit the ocean. However, there were some pirates from Africa who captured her little child. They then continued travelling further on the ocean. When Hadrat Sheikh Mohammed bin Yusuf Boraati May Allah be pleased with him appeared from his place of Ibadah, this lady grabbed his kurtah and informed him of what had happened. The Saint then walked towards the ocean and commanded the wind to stop. The wind immediately stopped. He then instructed the people on the ship to hand the little child back to its mother. However, they were not prepared to listen and continued further. He then commanded the ship to stop and the ship immediately stopped in the middle of the water. He then walked on the water and brought the child back to its mother.” (Jamia Karamat-e-Awliya, 485)

Hadrat Allama Nabhaani’s May Allah be pleased with him writes: “Hadrat Sheikh Mohammed bin Nassir Shaheedi explains that, “I was once  sitting in the blessed company of Hadrat Sheikh Mohammed bin ‘Umar Abu Bakr bin Qawwaam May Allah be pleased with him. He was also reading his Asr Salaah in the same Masjid wherein he used to normally read. There were also a lot of people that were with him. Someone among these people asked, ‘Hadrat! What is the sign of a true believer and what is it that he can control?’ There was also a pillar In front of the great Saint and pointing at this pillar he declared, ‘A true Saint has the power to control and change. If he points to this pillar, he can make it glitter with light.’ When people looked at this pillar, they could see that it was glittering with light.” (Jamia Karamaat-e-Awliya, 567)

Hadrat Allama Nabhaani’s May Allah be pleased with him writes further that Hadrat Abu Bakr bin Qawwam May Allah be pleased with him once mentioned to people, “I swear by Allah Almighty that He has blessed me with that state that if I commanded Baghdad to go to Marrakesh and Marrakesh to come to Baghdad, this would happen instantly. Or if I say to Baghdad to become Marrakesh or Marrakesh to become Baghdad, it would happen instantly.” In another gathering he mentioned to everyone present, “I am able to see the Arsh as I am able to see the faces of all you.” (Jamia Karamaat-e-Awliya, 579)

Hadrat Allama Nabhaani’s May Allah be pleased with him writes further that Hadrat Abu Abdullah Mohammed bin Esa Zayla’i May Allah be pleased with him had a young son. This boy was one day playing with villagers with a sword as is the custom of these villagers and the sword mistakenly hit someone on the eye. That person’s eye came out of its socket. When the great Saint heard about this, he called the person forward. He placed it back in its socket and blew on the area. The person’s eye immediately healed. Once, there were some people who were busy building the local Masjid in the same area where this Saint was. Suddenly, a person fell from the roof and broke his neck. This person was then brought to this Saint. He then ran his hands over this person and then blew on him. His neck was immediately healed. It was as if nothing had happened to this person. This person immediately stood up and continued his work.” (Jamia Karaamat-e- Awliya, 620)

Allama Nabhaani May Allah be pleased with him writes: “Abu Bakr Muqaddish narrates that he once mentioned to Hadrat Faqeeh Mohammed bin Ali Yusuf Ashkal Yemeni, ‘I wish that you could show me a miracle.’ He replied, ‘I will show you.’ When I looked at him he was pointing his right Shahaadat finger and the one next to it at me. From his shahaadat finger, I could see that from one of them, water appeared and from the other fire appeared.’ He then said to me, ‘Abu Bakr! Have you seen the karaamat?” I said ‘Yes, I had seen it.’ He then closed his fingers.” (Jamia Karamaat-e-Awliya, 655)

Hadrat Allama Nabhaani May Allah be pleased with him writes: “The son of Hadrat Sheikh Mohammed Sharbayni May Allah be pleased with him, namely Hadrat Sheikh Ahmed, reveals that Hadrat had a stick which he used to command to take the shape of a strong and powerful human. This stick used to immediately take the shape of a human. He then used to send it to do a few errands for him. After it returned, it used to once more take the shape of a stick.” (Jamia Karamaat-e-Awliya, 737)

Hadrat Allama Nabhaani May Allah be pleased with him writes: “Hadrat Imam She’rani May Allah be pleased with him writes that when the son of this Saint also became very ill and was very close to death, the Angel of Death, Hadrat Izra’eel peace be upon him, approached to take away the soul of this boy. However, the great Saint informed him that the moment of his son’s death had been changed and that he should return to Allah Almighty to inquire further. When the Angel of Death returned, this same son of his lived another 30 years after recovering from this illness.” (Jamia Karamaat-e-Awliya, 737)

Hadrat Allama Nabhaani May Allah be pleased with him writes: Once Hadrat Sheikh Mohammed bin Abul Hasan Bakri Misri May Allah be pleased with him one day went on a journey. He instructed one of his disciples to go and buy some food. But, the person replied that the person who had money had not yet appeared among them. However the Saint replied, “Our expense is not reliant on anyone except Allah Almighty.” He then reached out and broke a leaf from a nearby tree and then gave this person this leaf. When this person looked carefully, he noticed that it was a dinaar. The Saint told him to go and buy some food. All of this was clearly seen by people who were around the Saint. (Jamia Karamaat-e-Awliya, 783)

By Hadrat Allama Nabhaani May Allah be pleased with him presenting these amazing incidents and kaaramaat has also substantiated his belief that without doubt Almighty Allah Almighty, in His Divine Mercy, has given the Awliya these amazing powers to change, command and instruct.

On page 313 of the same manuscript, Allama Sheikh Mohammed bin Yahya May Allah be pleased with him writes that this was also the miracle of Hadrat Sheikh Ali bin Heeti May Allah be pleased with him.

Allama Sheikh Mohammed bin Yahya May Allah be pleased with him also writes that, “Hadrat Sheikh Ruslaan Dameshqi May Allah be pleased with him was one of those whose control was apparent to everyone”. (Al Qalaa’idul Jawaahir, 339)

Allama Sheikh Mohammed bin Yahya May Allah be pleased with him also writes about Hadrat Sheikh Abu Mohammed Qasim bin Abdul Basri May Allah be pleased with him, who was considered among the eminent Aarifeen and Saints of Iraq, that, “He was a person whom Almighty Allah Almighty had revealed and also had given him the power to control the running of the universe.” (Al Qalaa’idul Jawaahir, 349)

THE BELIEF OF THE A’IMMAH IKRAAM

The belief of Imam Abu Mansur Maturadi May Allah be pleased with him

Among the Mashaa’ikh, Imam Abu Mansur Maturadi May Allah be pleased with him is considered as one of the foremost Islamic scholars and authorities in Islamic Law. Imam Abu Mansur Maturadi May Allah be pleased with him is also one of the Imams in this regard. He was also responsible for drafting a paper on the true Aqaa’id of the Ahle Sunnah wa Jamaah and has a few manuscripts in this regard. One of his masterpieces is called “Kitaab Taawilaatul Qur’an” which is matchless in this subject. Imam Abu Mansur Maturadi’s May Allah be pleased with him Mazaar Shareef is in Samarkhand.

The writer of “Hadaa’iq-e Hanafiyah,” Moulana Mohammed Jhelimi writes: “During the time of this eminent Imam, there lived a very cruel king. Many people had become fed up with this person and a group of Landlords then approached the great Imam. At that moment, the great Imam was not at home. His wife was also someone who was not very noted for hospitality. She did not treat them very kindly and after making some inquires, they were told that the great Imam could be found in a certain field. When they approached him, he remarked, ‘Perhaps, you did not find hospitality at home.’ He then allowed them to enter into this orchard. He then made them sit and presented them with a plate of plums. They were extremely surprised when they say this because it was not the season for plums and they questioned him about this, he replied, ‘I have also made sure that I have never committed a sin with these hands of mine, therefore, what I wish to hold, these things always appear to me.’ He then took some grass and made a little bow and with the stems of the grass, he made a little arrow. He then pointed this in the direction of that oppressive king and released this little arrow. The Landlord also recorded the date of this incident and then departed. When they found out, they realised that it was on this same day, someone had murdered this king.” (168)

By the great Imam making it clear that his hands could retrieve whatever they wished and by him making a little bow and arrow and pointing it at the king, clearly proved that this Imam had certainty that Allah Almighty had given him the power to change and command.

The Belief of Allama Imam Fakhrudeen May Allah be pleased with him

Allama Imam Fakhrudeen May Allah be pleased with him writes: “When a person continues to adopt piety and good habits, then he reaches that distinguished state where the Almighty Allah Almighty has stated in the Hadith-e-Qudsi that, ‘I become the power of his hearing and I become the power of his vision.’ (Bukhari Shareef, 2/663). When the Divine Power of Almighty Allah Almighty becomes the power of his hearing, he is able to hear things which are near and far equally. When this Nur becomes the power of his vision, then he is able to see anything near or far. When this Nur becomes the power of his hand, then he is able to change and control anything easy or difficult whether it is near or far.” (Tafseer Kabeer, 5/480)

Hadrat Allama Imam Fakhrudeen Razi May Allah be pleased with him, by presenting these thoughts and words, is clearly informing us that when a pious and beloved servant of Allah Almighty becomes a Saint, Allah Almighty gives that person immense power and control and he is able to change, control and command.

The Belief of Aarif billah, Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Wahab She’rani May Allah be pleased with him

Hadrat Allama Sheikh Nabhaani May Allah be pleased with him narrates that Hadrat Sheikh Imam She’rani May Allah be pleased with him writes that, “When Sultan Hasan sent a battalion of soldiers to capture Ibn ‘Umar, (this is not the famous companion), who was the Governor of Egypt at that time, they succeeded in capturing him. They tied him with chains and took him with them. On the road, there happened to be a Mureed of Hadrat Sheikh Mohammed bin ‘Umar Waasiti Ghamri May Allah be pleased with him. This Mureed was selling horse radish on the road and his donkey had also slipped on the road. This Mureed also called out loudly, “O my master, Mohammed Ghamri!”

When ibn ‘Umar heard this, he asked this person, “Who is this Mohammed Ghamri you are calling to for help.” This simple person replied, “This is my Spiritual Master.” Ibn ‘Umar then said, “I am now also calling out to him and he shouted, ‘O Mohammed Ghamri, please also take care of me.’” The great Sheikh heard this call of ibn ‘Umar many miles away.

Imam She’rani May Allah be pleased with him further narrates from Sheikh Shahaabudeen ibn Nahkaal who relates this incident that, “Hadrat Sheikh Mohammed Ghamri then ordered three donkeys and he also ordered us to ride on these donkeys. We then continued to Cairo. The great Saint then sat a few minutes below the tent of the Sultan. They noticed that ibn ‘Umar was being taken to the fort with his hands and legs heavily chained. The great Saint then turned to ibn Nakhaal who is the actual person narrating this incident and said to him, “Go behind this person (ibn ‘Umar), and when you see that the King is being very cruel to him and threatening to kill him, then you must press your shahaadat finger on your thumb. When you do this, everything will change.”

Ibn Nakaal did as he was told and when he did this, suddenly the King screamed, “Release him, allow him to wear a garland and throw zaffron on his companions as well.” (This was sign of happiness which was been displayed by the king).

Ibn Nakhaal then returned to his Master and informed him of what had happened. When this happened, the great Sheikh then informed everyone that they would be returning home very silently without anyone knowing anything. That is exactly what happened. No one ever knew what exactly transpired in this incident, not even ibn ‘Umar. However, ibn Nakhaal did reveal this incident to Imam She’rani May Allah be pleased with him later on because he was also commanded by the great Sheikh never to reveal this in his life time.

Hadrat Imam She’rani May Allah be pleased with him narrates that he was informed that Hadrat Mohammed Hanafi May Allah be pleased with him used to travel to the Raudha Mubarak with all his Mureeds while walking on water from Cairo. He was also among those special Saints who was fully aware of everything within the hearts of people. (Jamia Karamaat-e-Awliya, 664)

These few words of Hadrat Imam She’rani May Allah be pleased with him clearly testifies to the fact that he also had the belief that the Awliya could be able to control, command and change the running of the universe.
