Allah Almighty states the following concerning the high station of the honour of the cream of creation, our master Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him:

تُعَزِّرُوۡہُ وَ تُوَقِّرُوۡہُ

Pay respect to him and honour him (the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him)

(Al-Fat’h 48, Verse 09)

Tafseer:

فمعنى تعظيم رسول الله وتوقيره حقيقة اتباع سنته في الظاهر والباطن والعلم بانه زبدة الموجودات وخلاصتها وهو المحبوب الأزلي وما سواه تبع له

The meaning of respecting and honouring Rasoolullah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – in reality is to follow his Sunnah both externally and internally, and to know that he is the cream of all creation and their conclusion at the same time.  He is the beloved of Allah, and everything besides Allah is subservient to him.

(Tafseer Rooh al-Bayaan 48:09)

لما نزلت على رَسُول الله صلى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم هَذِه الْآيَة {وتعزروه} قَالَ النَّبِي صلى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم لأَصْحَابه: مَا ذَاك قَالُوا: الله وَرَسُوله أعلم قَالَ: {لتنصروه}

When this verse (وتعزروه) was revealed upon the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – he asked his companions, “What is it?”  They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.”  He said: (it means) Assist him.

(Ibn Adi, Ibn Mardawaih, Tareekh ibn Asakir, Tafseer Al-Durr al-Manthoor 48:09)

Hadrat Sayyiduna Jamaaludeen Ebrahim bin Mohammed Teebi – May Allah be pleased with him –narrates that once a few Tatars publicly announced that they would be accepting the religion of Christianity. Tartar leaders and Christians of their era also attended this gathering. In this gathering, one of the priests also insulted the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.

Near this stage, there was also a hunting dog which was tied. When this priest started to insult the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –this dog broke the rope and attacked the priest with its paws. The people around the stage were shocked and somehow managed to grab the dog and tie it with the same rope to a nearly pole.

Someone who was present also asked the priest whether it was possible that the dog had attacked him because he had insulted the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. However, brushing away this, the priest replied, “No, in fact the dog is well-trained by me and because I had pointed my hands towards it, it interpreted it as an instruction to attack.” The priest said that this was in fact merely a coincident that something like this had occurred.

The priest continued with this lecture and he began to insult the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – again. Now, the dog broke the rope and attacked with such ferocity that it actually killed the priest on the spot.

Imam Jamaludeen – May Allah be pleased with him –mentions that this is the condition of a mere dog that displayed no fear in spite of the fact that nearly forty thousand non-Muslims were gathered there. What must be the condition of a real believer when the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – is insulted in his presence!

(Ad Dururul Kaazimah)

To a true believer nothing is dearer to him than the dignity, love and the honour of our master Rasoolullah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – as it is mentioned in the following Hadeeth of Bukhari:

لا يؤمن أحدكم حتى أكون أحبَّ إليه من ولده ووالده والناس أجمعين

None of you can become a believer until I become more beloved to him than his children, his parents and all the people.

وفي رواية لمسلم: ((حتى أكون أحبَّ إليه من أهله وماله والناس أجمعين)).

In the version of Imam Muslim:  Until I become more beloved to him than his family, his wealth and all the people.
