Download PDF: The Barakah of a Strand of Cotton
Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlwi Radi Allahu ‘Anhu writes that once people suffered from a great drought and the Dua’s that they made was to no avail. Rain was not seen for many days on end.
When this happened, Hadrat Nizaamudeen Awliya Radi Allahu ‘Anhu took a piece of cotton from the blessed clothing of his mother and holding it in his hand, he made Du’a, “O Allah azza wajal! This is the piece of cotton from the clothing of that person who never ever saw a Ghair Mahram (someone non permitted by Shari’ah to look at). Please grace us with rain.” As soon as these words were mentioned by the great Saint, it began to rain.
(Akhbaarul Akhyaar, 40)
When a person spends their entire life and every moment in the obedience of the Allah azza wajal and they continue to safeguard themselves against their Nafs and the evil whisperings of the Satan, they become a symbol of piety and Barakah. There is no doubt that such a person possesses a very high and elevated status indeed. As matter of fact, when these blessed souls reach this state, even those items which are connected with them become blessed and a means of Barakah.
Since the blessed mother of Hadrat Nizaamudeen Awliya Radi Allahu ‘Anhu was a symbol of modesty and decency and continued to obey Allah azza wajal at every moment of her life, she therefore became a means of spiritual blessing on people.
If only our sisters could desist from trying to find peace and solace from wordily items and objects and spend their time in obeying Allah azza wajal, they would certainly find true peace and solace.
Instead of trying to make oneself someone without any value in the Divine Court of Allah azza wajal through continuous sin and transgression, they could endeavour to spend their existence in displaying modesty and obedience. They would certainly achieve great value in the Divine Court of the Allah azza wajal.
Even in the present day, if a female continues to display such Islamic virtues and ethics, there is no reason why she herself cannot become a source of blessing and Barakah for the Muslim Ummah. Allah azza wajal give all our sisters the strength to display modesty and decency so that they can also become symbols of Divine Grace. Aameen.
