Download PDF: The Colourful Shawl
Sayyidah Ayesha Radi Allahu ‘Anha narrates: Once the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam had gone on some expedition and I was waiting for him to return. We also had a colourful shawl and I had placed this on the roof pole.
When he returned, I approached to greet him and I also said, “All Praise is for Allah azza wajal Who had graced you with greatness and stature.”
However, when he saw this colourful shawl in the house, he did not reply to my greeting. I noticed that there was some displeasure visible on his face. He then tore this shawl and said, “Whatever Allah azza wajal has given us, He did not command us that we should adorn the bricks and stones.”
I then made a bag of these two pieces and in which I placed some of the bark of the date tree. The Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam did not object to this. (Abu Daud)
From this incident, we learn that it should be the habit of the wife to greet her husband when he arrives from anywhere and when the husband commands something which is in keeping with the Laws of Islam, the wife should also obey these commands.
This should also be the habit of the Muslim sisters who are in the habit of ignoring Islamic teachings for their own fancy ideas. This is one of the reasons that the Qur’an has stated in Surah Ale Imran, verse 162:
اَفَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ رِضْوٰنَ اللہِ کَمَنۡۢ بَآءَ بِسَخَطٍ مِّنَ اللہِ وَمَاۡوٰىہُ جَہَنَّمُ ؕ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِیۡرُ ﴿۱۶۲﴾
“So is one who follows the will of Allah equal to one who has incurred the wrath from Allah and whose home is the fire? And what a wretched place to return!”
We also make Du’a that Allah azza wajal gives the Muslims the strength to accept the laws of Islam and follow them willingly. Aameen.
