It is reported that the father of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Ghanan Ash’ari, May Allah have mercy on him, was one of the blessed companions and had migrated with Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Moosa Ash’ari, May Allah have mercy on him. Some have said that he was also a companion because Imam Tirmidi, May Allah have mercy on him, also admits that he had actually seen the Holy Prophet – peace be upon him. It is also reported that he was once sent to Palestine on the orders of Hadrat Sayyiduna Umar, May Allah have mercy on him, to teach people about Islam. Whatever be the case, he is considered as one of the foremost Taba’een and passed away in the year 78 a.h.

(Sayr A’laamin Nobala 4/45,46).

He narrates that one day he was sitting in the blessed company of Hadrat Sayyiduna Umar, May Allah have mercy on him, and his knees were actually touching the knees of the great companion when suddenly a person arrived with his wife and began to say:

“O Ameerul Mo’mineen! I have married this woman. When we married her, I also made the condition that she will continue to live in her house and that I will not bring her to my house. Now that the state in my house is very convenient and proper, can I now take her to my house (even though she is objecting to this)?”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Umar, May Allah have mercy on him, replied, “The condition in which you had married this female, you will have to fulfil that condition”. The person then replied, “(If this is the decision), then the menfolk will certainly be destroyed. If a female does not want to leave her husband, (yet, when she is stubborn on) her condition (being fulfilled) and even if she does not want to leave her husband, she will have to leave him.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Umar, May Allah have mercy on him, declared, “A Muslim is the person who is bound by his rights and is commanded to adhere to these conditions until the time is complete.”
