Allah Almighty states in the Glorious Quran:
سَنُرِیۡہِمْ اٰیٰتِنَا فِی الْاٰفَاقِ وَ فِیۡۤ اَنۡفُسِہِمْ حَتّٰی یَتَبَیَّنَ لَہُمْ اَنَّہُ الْحَقُّ

Soon, We shall show them Our signs in the entire world and in their ownselves, till it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.
(Surah Haa Meem Al-Sajdah 41, Verse 53)

And soon We (Allah) will show them (the people) our signs in the world within themselves, until it becomes clear for them that He (Allah, Quran and upon whom it was revealed) is true.

In this verse of the Holy Quran, the authentic proofs regarding the truthfulness of Islam, Quran and the one upon who it was revealed i.e. Huzur Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – are mentioned.
The objective of this verse is that He (Allah) will show us in this world as well as in ourselves such signs of His divine powers through which your hearts will be compulsorily made to accept the truthfulness of Islam, Quran and the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – and then the truthfulness of Islam will become as clear as broad daylight.  This verse can be explained in four ways and under every explanation there are special benefits:

Three of these four are scholastic and the last one is mystical.

  1. Almighty Allah will reveal the obvious signs of His divine attributes and divine power and knowledge to people around the world and even within themselves in such a manner that they will embrace His truthfulness.
  2. The Almighty Allah will disclose the great and open signs of the truthfulness of his divine words of Quran in the world as well as within yourselves through which it will be clearly discovered and unfolded that The Holy Quran is true.
  3. The Almighty Allah will disclose the evident proofs of truthfulness of His Beloved Prophet Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – in the world as well as within ourselves, so that our hearts themselves will begin to bear evidence that Huzoor Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – is the true Messenger of Allah Almighty.

My dear brothers-in-Islam!

So now, I would like to focus on the 1st explanation of this verse according to which it is derived that Almighty Allah will disclose to people the obvious signs of His divine attributes, powers and knowledge in the world and also within themselves in such a manner that it will establish the truthfulness of Allah Almighty.
In this regard, if the meaning of the verse is about the personal signs of Allah’s powers, then the word “SANUREEHIM” in the verse which means “SOON WE WILL SHOW THEM”, has three possible interpretations:

  1. I will create such things in future which people cannot even fathom today:

وَ یَخْلُقُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوۡنَ ﴿۸﴾

And He will create what you know not.

(Al-Nahl 16, Verse 8)

Hence, Allah Almighty has created the things which nobody had thought before; such as, the trains, cars, planes, electricity, radio, nuclear weapons etc. Take them as a living interpretation of the abovementioned verse.

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – gave us the news of such inventions that have been realized yet.

He stated that our thighs and even our shoelaces will communicate with us, and the walls of our houses will inform us of what mischief our wives and children have made behind our back.  Dajjaal will bring the dead to life etc.

Some of its miracles have been so far realized and some are still to follow.

  1. Or it could mean that He would create something extraordinary out of the existing elements and things which no one would have thought of. The wind, water, smoke, sun, fire and steam have been there for ages but the creation was not aware of their potential powers and then through scientific discovery we came to realise that the steam engine could pull the entire train.   Electricity could be created from water and that the atom bombs could be made from sun rays and it still cannot be said that we have completely known the functions and potentials of everything but we come up with a new discovery every day.
  • Or it could also mean that even though the His signs are there but people are fortunate enough to pay attention towards them and then Allah Almighty grants them the opportunity later to ponder upon them, and when we do ponder then only it will become manifest to us.

People search for good advisors but if Allah Almighty grants them the divine guidance then each and every atom of the earth and leaves of trees will become their advisors.  All what has been said was the Tafseer of:

سَنُرِیۡہِمْ اٰیٰتِنَا فِی الْاٰفَاقِ

Soon, We shall show them Our signs in the entire world.
(Surah Haa Meem Al-Sajdah 41, Verse 53)

When we ponder upon the following part of the verse:

سَنُرِیۡہِمْ اٰیٰتِنَا فِی الْاٰفَاقِ وَ فِیۡۤ اَنۡفُسِہِمْ

Soon, We shall show them Our signs in the entire world and within their own selves.
(Surah Haa Meem Al-Sajdah 41, Verse 53)

We come to realize that even each and every tiny hair on our body is a sign of Allah Almighty.

If we think deeply who we are, where have we come from, how do we speak and at the time of death what gets detached from our bodies then we would lose our mind.

Imam Raazi – may Allah be pleased with Him – writes:

I wonder, what if a cotton wool is placed on the nose and the mouth of a newborn baby, would it suffocate and die yet it survived enveloped in the womb of its mother for so many months.  A chicken remains alive for few days within the eggshell and it even creates sound although there is no air or water, which brings us to the conclusion that Allah Almighty is not dependant on oxygen, water etc. in order to keep the creation alive – but on the other hand, a person dies while having every means of water, oxygen, food etc. at his disposal.

Shaikh Sa’di – may Allah be pleased with Him – states:

He is the Creator who creates images on fluids

i.e. while all the other artists can only perform their creativity on a piece of paper, sand, or by carving stones but there has never been an artist who could draw a picture on water.  It is only in the Power of Allah Almighty who created billions of images from single drops of semen.

Story:

Someone said to Hazrat Ali – may Allah be pleased with Him:

“Look at the wisdom of the man who invented chess that he filled millions of plays within the surface of a chessboard as small as one square yard and yet every individual play is new!”

Hazrat Ali said to him:

“Look at the excellence of my Lord that He has drawn billions of different images on a span sized face that each one is totally different from the other!”

According to the 2nd explanation the meaning will be that the proofs of the truthfulness of the Holy Quran are everywhere in the universe and also within their own selves.

There are such miracles in the holy Quran that will perpetually occur; e.g. the Quranic prophecies; such as, challenging the linguists of Arabia to terribly fail in order to attempting to fabricating a speech more beautiful than that of Allah’s in the Quran and it did happen as predicted by the Quran and they failed to bring such verses.

Quran made the statement that Allah Almighty is its protector, so it will be saved from any alterations like those that occurred in Bible and Torah which happened as predicted.

The Quran gave the futuristic prediction about the Romans being victorious against the Persian within a few years which was realized and occurred as predicted.

The Holy Quran made the statement that Allah Almighty elevated the remembrance of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – and we witness even today that his zikr is elevated indeed.

The Holy Quran predicted that the believers will elect righteous Caliphs which they did and elected the Khulafa-e-Raashideen.

The world has seen the Quranic prophecies coming true from the very beginning and we still witness then and in future also they will occur as predicted in the Quran.

The scientists have recently proven that the plants also have masculine and feminine genders but the Holy Quran had already made it clear prior to these findings:

وَ مِنۡ کُلِّ شَیۡءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَیۡنِ لَعَلَّکُمْ تَذَکَّرُوۡنَ ﴿۴۹﴾

And We have made pairs of everything that you may reflect.

(Al-Dhaariyaat 51, Verse 49)

It has only recently been proven that the trees also communicate but the Holy Quran had already mentioned:

وَ اِنۡ مِّنۡ شَیۡءٍ اِلَّا یُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِہٖ

And there is nothing, which might not speak of His Glory praising Him.

(Bani Israel 17, Verse 44)

The scientific discoveries will continue and the miracles of the Holy Quran will be further unfolded, so, in a way, the science is actually the Tafseer of this verse.

There is a benefit which lies within these two Tafseers that to find out about the Powers of Allah Almighty by pondering upon the Quranic verses and the creation is a great form of worship, and it is for this reason that Soofies state, “Pondering for a moment is better than making Zikr for a thousand years and to read Quran by understanding it is better than reciting the entire Quran.  The Holy Quran has commanded about pondering and understanding at every occasion:

اَ فَلَا یَتَدَبَّرُوۡنَ الْقُرْاٰنَ

Then do they not ponder in Quran?

(Al-Nisa 4, Verse 82)

And various other verses of similar meaning.

According to the third explanation, it will mean that Allah Almighty shall reveal the proofs of The Holy Prophet’s – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – truthfulness to the people in the universe as well as within their own selves.  The miracles of all the other Prophets – peace be upon them – were revealed after their arrival and were concealed after their departure but Allah Almighty granted the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – with four kinds of signs:

  1. Which the world saw prior to his arrival
  2. Which were revealed at the time of his arrival
  3. Which were revealed throughout his Prophethood while he was physically with us
  4. Are those that will continue to happen after him till the Day of Qiyaamah; just as the sun is known at the time of its appearance, at the time of sunrise with the emergence of light and after sunset with the twilight and even after that with the light of the moon and stars that receive light from the very sun.

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – is the sun of Prophethood and the rest of the Prophets – peace be upon Them – are like stars and the AwliyaAllah are like sand granules.  It is for this reason that the stars disappeared after the arrival of the sun and the sand granules began to twinkle in the light of the sun.

The fourth type of miracles are mentioned in this verse i.e. he is unlike the former Prophets that his miracles would elapse after his departure but his miracles will be revealed even after his departure as they were witnessed prior to his arrival.

The Example of His 4 Kinds of Miracles:

  1. Allah Almighty states:

Undoubtedly, Allah and His angels send blessings on the prophet, the Communicator of unseen news.

(Al-ahzaab 33, Verse 56)

This explains that Allah Almighty and the angels were always sending Durood upon the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – prior to the creation of mankind, for Ysalloon is indefinite and continuous tense which clearly discloses that his Durood was widespread even before the creation of mankind.

  1. Allah Almighty stated:

And remember when Allah took, from the prophets their covenant whatever I should give you of the Book and wisdom, then comes to you the Messenger confirming your Books, then assuredly you must believe in him and assuredly you must help him. He said, ‘do you agree, and do you accept My heavy responsibility on it.  All submitted ‘We did affirm; He said, ‘then be witness against one another and I am myself among witnesses with you.

(Aale Imraan 3, Verse Verse 81)

It denotes that the covenant was taken from all the Prophets to follow the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – in the world of souls which explains that his sign of Prophethood was well known even in the world of souls.

Hazrat Adam – peace be upon Him – saw the name of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – written on the Arsh right after he was born which supports the view that Hazrat Aminah – may Allah be pleased with Her – had firstly recognised the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – right after she was born, and even now we are instructed to first give Azan in the ear of the newborn.  Hazrat Adam – peace be upon Him – read the name of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – right after he was created, so in order to be a true human, one must first familiarize himself with the recognition of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him.

The shortfall of Hazrat Adam – peace be upon Him – was forgiven due to taking the medium of the blessed name of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – and therefore he summoned his children in his will to take the medium of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – at the time of hardship, for it was this name due to which my difficulties were removed.

(Al-Khasaais Al-Kubra)

The ark of Hazrat Nooh – peace be upon Him – made it to seashore due to the blessed name of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him.

Some Ulama have stated that the angels used to stand behind Hazrat Adam’s – peace be upon Him – back and recite Salaato Salaam.  He asked, “O Allah, why do they come in front of me?”  He was then told, “The light of Hazrat Muhammad is in your spine and the Durood and Salaam is being recited upon it and the Sajdah was also made before it.”

Hazrat Adam – peace be upon Him – was well aware of the fact that

It was definitely not him whom the Sajdah was made for

Story:

It is mentioned in Tafseer Roohul Bayaan that once Hazrat Sulaiman – peace be upon Him – travelled all round the world riding on his throne in the company of 1,000 Prophets and Ulama with him on the throne.  The jinns were placed at the edge of the throne.  Birds were flying above the throne and provided shade from the sun and beneath him all the animals were coming along on the ground.  They came across a field and descended from the throne and walked afoot through that entire field and then ascended onto the throne.  When someone asked the reason behind this then he said, “This place will be inhabited in future and a city will be built by the name of Madinah Munawwarah and the city will be the resting place for the Master of all the Prophets – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him.  It is for this reason that I paid my respect to this holy land.  When someone asked, “When will the city be inhabited?”  He replied, “After 1,000 years from now.”

The glad tidings of Hazrat ‘Isa – peace be upon Him – and the Du’a of Hazrat Ibraheem – peace be upon Him – which they did for the sake of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – the Holy Quran has mentioned them and it is mentioned in other narrations that the Prophets – peace be upon them – used to actually establish the gatherings of the Zikr of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – just as nowadays’ Mehfils of Meelad, and used to propagate his attributes and his excellence among their nations to the extent that those nations used to seek help in battles and calamities through the medium of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him.

The Holy Quran declares:

وَلَمَّا جَآءَہُمْ کِتٰبٌ مِّنْ عِنۡدِ اللہِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَہُمْ ۙ وَکَانُوۡا مِنۡ قَبْلُ یَسْتَفْتِحُوۡنَ عَلَی الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا

And when there came to them, that Book (Quran) of Allah, which confirms the Book (Taurat) with them, and before that they were asking for victory over the infidels by means of the same prophet.

(Al-Baqarah 2, Verse 89)

In short, his miracles are well established and known from the very beginning.

These were the incidents prior to his arrival.  Everyone knew about his miracles in his era.  Baheera the monk had embraced Islam by witnessing his childhood.  Hazrat Abdullah – may Allah be pleased with Him – had seen that even the dry trees would become green and provide him shade and the statues of the idol-house were afraid of him.  Hazrat Amina – may Allah be pleased with Her – saw a Prophet every month during her pregnancy who would give her the glad tiding of the arrival of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him.  The Hoors of paradise were present at the time of his birth and his Sajdah at the time of birth alone was sufficient for the Imaan of Hazrat Amina – may Allah be pleased with Her.

Haleemah Saadiya – may Allah be pleased with Her – witnessed that her dry breasts became full of milk and her feeble mule gaining strength.  Her weak camel gave so much of milk which would suffice for the whole tribe and also the opening of his heart etc. were those miracles which would suffice for the Imaan of Hazrat Haleema Saadiya – may Allah be pleased with Her.

The miracles which transpired after the announcement of Prophethood are countless.  His miracles are of two categories:

  1. Internal
  2. External

The internal miracles are that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – is himself a miracle from head to toe.

Allah Almighty blessed all the other Prophets – peace be upon Him – with miracles

But our Prophet – may Allah send peace be upon Him – arrived as a miracle himself

And then thousands miracles are hidden within his each body-part:

یٰۤاَیُّہَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَکُمۡ بُرْہٰنٌ مِّنۡ رَّبِّکُمْ

‘O people! Undoubtedly, a manifest argument has come to you from your Lord.

(Al-Nisa 4, Verse 174)

There are thousands of external miracles; such as, splitting the moon into two halves, returning the sun, the stones reciting Kalimah, trees reciting Salaato Salaam, his listening to the cries of camels etc., the trunk crying due to detachment from him and many others.

Other Prophets – peace be upon them – were given one or two miracles, and most of them were given to Hazrat Moosa – peace be upon Him – that were 9 but the six thousand miracles of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him – are those that have been mentioned in the narrations while only Allah Almighty will know in reality how many are actually there.

He is the manifestation of Allah from head to toe

He is the human that there is none like him

Quran refers to him as Imaan

But even Imaan considers him to be its soul

His miracles that are to occur from the time he made Pardah till the Last Day are also countless and will continue to occur.

Each verse of the Holy Quran is a miracle of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him.

Now, let us ponder upon the signs of Allah Almighty that are within ourselves.  Each human being is a universe within himself which is why the Soofies have explained it in the following manner:

A human is like a seed and the entire world is like a tree.  Just as the properties of an entire tree are briefly present in the seed, in the same way, the entire world is manifest within a human being.

According to them (Soofies), the human body is the ‘Arsh of Allah and the Nafs is His Kursi (Throne), the heart is Baitul Ma’moor and the seven sensitive chambers of the heart are the seven levels of paradise, the spiritual strengths are the angels and both eyes+nostrils+ears+anus+opening in the penis+navel+both the breasts and mouth are 12 Burjs, and the five external senses+sense of communication and thinking faculty are the 7 stars (planets) and the 360 body parts are the days of a year and the vocal points from where different letters originate are the 28 milestones of the moon.

Similarly, as the human body is the earth, and the bones supporting the body are like mountains and the marrow of the bones is like mines, stomach is ocean, intestines are the rivers, the veins are streams, fat is mud, hair is vegetation, the back is forest, breathing is air, speech is thunder, expression is lightening, crying is rain, happiness is day, sorrow is night, sleep is death and wakefulness is life, birth is the beginning of the journey, childhood is spring, youth is summer, old age is winter and death is the end of journey.  The years of life are different cities, the months are different stations, weeks are the four miles of the journey, days are the miles, breaths are steps taken, with each breath one moved a step ahead in his life and one breathes 12,000 times during the day and 12,000 during the night, and one will feel ashamed on the Day of Judgement on each breath taken in negligence.

When we look at the human nature we would reach the conclusion that the human being has all the qualities of the entire creation.

A human is like an angel in the Ma’rifah of Allah, and a satan’s teacher when it comes to deception and mockery, a lion in bravery, an animal in ignorance, a cheetah in arrogance, a wolf in anger, a donkey in patience, a bird in carnal desires, a fox in flattery, an ant and rat in greed, a dog in misery, a pig in distrust, a snake in holding grudge, a camel in humbleness, a rooster in generosity, an owl in expertise, a falcon in courage, a crow in negotiation, and on top of all this, he is also an intelligent and brilliant creature.  These are the signs of Allah Almighty that are manifest within a human being:

فَتَبٰرَکَ اللہُ اَحْسَنُ الْخٰلِقِیۡنَ ﴿ؕ۱۴﴾

So Blessed is Allah, the Best Creator.

(Al-Mu’minoon 23, Verse 14)

(Mu’allime Taqreer p. 46-62)
