It is mentioned during the era of Mu’tasim billah in 654 A.H., there was huge fire which erupted inside the Masjidun Nabawi. This was also the first night of Ramadaan. It is mentioned that due to the negligence of the person lighting the lanterns inside the Masjid, a large portion of the interior of the Masjid was burnt. The people in Madina Shareef tried their lever best to put off the fire but it was difficult to do so. Finally, the fire died down on its own.
When this incident occurred, there were many rumours of why this had happened and many names were silently mentioned in public. However, the head of the Mu’azzins, namely Sheikh Ebrahim Kinaani, then revealed something which shocked everyone. He said that while this fire was going on, there were two couplets which appeared on the blessed walls of the Masjid which he still remembered.
It read, “The Haram of the Prophet has not burnt due to some conspiracy. And this is indeed not something which (one should be) embarrassed about. (However), since many items were placed here by the Shia, all of this has been cleansed through a fire.”
And this was exactly the case in that period. During that period, the Shia had great power through government influence in Madina Shareef. In fact, the Qadi of the Masjid, the Khateeb, the servants, etc. were all Shia inclined. In fact, according to one historian, at that brief time in history, no books of the Sunni scholars were allowed to be read in Madina Shareef. (Taarikh Al Khulafah; Wafa ul Wafa)
There is no doubt that as blessing and spiritual grace appears when the pious is mentioned or are present, in like manner, great calamity and bad luck appears when the enemies of Islam are present.
This is the reason that the ‘Ulama have warned us about staying away from the company of the non-Sunni who are misled and misguided. In fact, there are many examples where the true Sunni Ulama and the Awliyah have refused to travel with people who are non-Sunni and have even refused to live in an area where there are non-Sunnis. As a matter of fact, some of them have even condemned the act of being buried in the same cemetery where the non-Sunni has been buried.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Jalaaludeen Rumi – may Allah be pleased with him – has stated that, “Stay far from the company of evil people because they are even more dangerous than a poisonous snake. The most a dangerous snake can do is take away your life but a person with bad Aqeedah or evil habits can take away your Imaan. And certainly your Aqeedah is much more valuable than your life.”
There are certain ignorant people who say what the harm in these people is. They have their own beliefs and we have our own beliefs. Yet, these people are certainly in great danger without them realizing it. If you stand near a furnace, certainly even though your clothes might not get burnt, but you will undoubtedly feel the heat and the effects of this fire. Even if you protect yourself completely from this furnace, still too, some effects of this furnace will certainly harm you. Therefore, instead of feeling the evil effects of this fire, stay away as this is much more intelligent.
