It is mentioned that once Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – went to visit Hadrat Sayyiduna Ameer Mu’awiyyah – may Allah be pleased with him.
One of the workers in the court asked the great Imam, “O blessed son of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, I am a very rich person but I have no children. Please educate me about something which I can do to be able to acquire children.”
The great Imam advised him to make Istighfaar.
The person continued to make Istighfaar. In fact he made so much of Istighfaar that some say he used to make Istighfaar nearly seven hundred times a day.
The Barakah of this was soon seen and that person had ten sons from different wives.
When Hadrat Sayyiduna Ameer Mu’awiyah – may Allah be pleased with him – heard about this, he asked the person, “Why did you not ask the great Imam where he had acquired this solution from”.
The next time when this person appeared in front of Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – he asked him this question. The great Imam then asked whether he had heard the words of Nabi Hud – peace be upon him – in the Qur’an which are found in Surah Hud (11), verse 52:
“And O my people! Seek forgiveness from your Lord, then incline towards Him in repentance – He will send abundant rain from the sky upon you and will give you much more strength than you have – and do not turn away committing crimes!”
Did you not also read the words of Nabi Nuh – peace be upon him – in the Qur’an which are found in Surah Nuh (71), verse 10:
“I therefore told them, ‘Seek forgiveness from your Lord; He is indeed Most Forgiving.’
It is also mentioned that once four people approached Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – and one of them complained of drought. One complained that he was in financial problems. One complained that he had no children and the last person complained that his land bears no crops. When Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – heard the complaints of all of them, he advised them to make as much Istighfaar as possible.
At that moment, Rabee bin Sabee was also present and he said to the great Imam, “O beloved son of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, people had presented different problems but you had given all of them the same solution. The great Imam then recited the verses 10,11,12 in Surah Nuh:
“I therefore told them, ‘Seek forgiveness from your Lord; He is indeed Most Forgiving.’ ‘He will send down abundant rain for you from the sky.’ ‘And will aid you with wealth and sons, and will create gardens for you and cause rivers to flow for you.’”
If you look at these verses, you will find that four things have been mentioned. And all four of this has been presented by these people. Therefore, from this, we come to know that all four of these can be achieved through Istighfaar. (Tafseer Saawi)
