Hadrat Sayyiduna Ubaidullah bin Umar Qawwaariri – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that, “I used to always perform the ‘Isha Salaah with congregation. But one day, I happened to miss the congregation. The reason is that I had a visitor and because I was busy with this visitor, I missed the congregational Salaah. When I had finished with this person and went to the MASJID, I noticed the ‘Isha Salaah had been completed. I then began to think of what action I could perform that would be able to fill this space. I then remembered the Hadith Shareef of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – in which he has stated that, ‘Salaah with congregation is more supreme in status than Salaah alone in twenty one degrees.’ In like manner, the number has also been mentioned as being twenty five and even twenty seven.” (Bukhari Shareef)

“I then thought to myself that if I perform the ‘Isha Salaah twenty seven times perchance I would be able to fill the space which was made void through missing the Congregational Salaah. Thereafter, I recited the ‘Isha Salaah twenty seven times and then fell off to sleep. As I slept, I saw a dream and there were a few riders in front of me. Suddenly one of the riders turned to me and declared, ‘Do not place your horse is difficulty, without doubt you would not be able to reach us.’ I then asked the reason for this and he replied, ‘The reason is that we had performed the ‘Isha Salaah in congregation.’” (Uyunul Hikaayah)

There is certainly great benefit and reward in performing Salaah with congregation.

As for those who miss this, they are certainly robbing themselves of great benefit. Look at the example of this Saint that he had actually re-performed his Salaah twenty seven times but he was clearly told that he would not receive the same type of reward as those who had performed their Salaah in congregation.
