Hadrat Sayyiduna Sufyan Thouri – May Allah have mercy upon him – narrates, “Once while I was making Tawaaf of the Ka’ba, I noticed a person who was only reading Durood Shareef and nothing else. In fact, every step he took, he continued to recite the Durood Shareef. Finally, I had to go and ask him what the reason was for this. I then inquired, ‘I notice that you do not read any Tasbeeh, Tahleel or Takbeer and only recite the Durood Shareef. What is the reason that you only recite the Durood shareef?’
“When he heard my question, he looked closely at me and asked me who I was. I then informed him who I was. He displayed immense respect towards me and declared, ‘If you were not one of the greatest Muhaddith of this era, I would certainly never reveal the true reason for this.’
“He then revealed his story, He mentioned, ‘Once, I travelled with my father for Hajj and on the journey, when we had stopped at one place, my father became extremely sick and also passed away. However, suddenly his face also turned black, his eyes changed colour and his stomach also became swollen like a pot. When I saw the state of my father, I began to weep and continuing to weep, I dozed off. In my dream, I saw an extremely handsome looking person suddenly appear. He then passed his hands over the face and body of my father. After he had done this, the face of my father changed and it became very handsome and bright and even his stomach returned to its normal state. I then held the shawl of this person and asked, ‘Please reveal to me who you are’. The person replied, ‘I am the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and your father was indeed a very sinful person. However, at the same time, he used to also recite Durood Shareef in excess. Due to his evil deeds, his appearance had changed at the time of his death. However, just before he could die, he called out to me and I have appeared to help him. I am also able to help and assist every Muslim who reads the Durood Shareef in excess on me in this world.’ When my eyes opened, I noticed that the face of my father was still bright and handsome and his stomach appeared normal. From that moment, I became so amazed at the miracle of the Durood Shareef that whenever I have the opportunity, I continue to recite only the Durood Shareef.’” (Tafseer Ruhul Bayan, 7/225)
*In the Hadith Shareef, Hadrat Sayyiduna Ubay bin Ka’ab – May Allah be pleased with him – narrates that once he approached the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and asked, “O Prophet of Allah Almighty! I also recite the Durood Shareef upon, however, how much of time in the night and day should I dedicate to reading the Durood Shareef?”
The Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – replied, “As much as you wish.”
I then asked, “If I dedicate a quarter of this time to reading the Durood Shareef?”
The Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – replied, “As much as you wish. However, if you dedicate even more time, it would be better for you.”
I then asked, “If I dedicate half this time?”
He replied, “As much as you wish, however, if you dedicate even more time, it would be better for you.”
I then asked, “If I dedicate two thirds of this time.”
Again he replied, “As much as you wish, however, if you dedicate even more time, it would be better for you.”
I then asked, “O Prophet of Allah! If I dedicate all my time to reading the Durood Shareef?”
He declared, “Then all your deeds will become complete and it will be a Kafarah (expiation) for your sins.” (Mishkaat Shareef, 86)
This is the reason that the eminent Awliya have always emphasised the importance of reading the Durood Shareef on a consistent basis.
One of the special treatises written on this subject is the Dalaa’ilul Khayraat. This is considered as one of the most comprehensive books on Durood Shareef and has been read for centuries by Muslims from all over the world. However, sadly, the satanic forces which control the Haram Shareef in this day and age, namely the Najdi government, has banned this treatise and no one is allowed to bring this book into their so-called ‘kingdom’. From this, we will also come to realize the ignominious death which awaits these people.
Pertaining to the importance of Durood and Salaam upon the beloved Habeeb – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, the Qur’an declares in Surah Al Ahzab, verse 56:
اِنَّ اللہَ وَمَلٰٓئِکَتَہٗ یُصَلُّوۡنَ عَلَی النَّبِیِّ ؕ یٰۤاَیُّہَا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا صَلُّوۡا عَلَیۡہِ وَ سَلِّمُوۡا تَسْلِیۡمًا ﴿۵۶﴾
“Indeed Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet; O People who Believe! Send blessings and abundant salutations upon him.”
In reference to this verse, Allamah Sadrul Afaadil, Syed Na’eemudeen Muradabadi – may Allah be pleased with him – in the Kazaa’inul Irfan explains, “It is Waajib to send Durood upon the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – in any gathering upon that person who lecturing and those who are listening. It is considered as Mustahab to send Durood Shareef more than once. This is the accepted opinion and there is ‘Ijmah on this fact. It is also Sunnah to recite the Durood after the Tasha’hud (for those who are Hanafi). One can also send Du’a in the form of Durood upon the blessed family and companions as well.
Issue:
It is an established fact to send Durood and Salaam upon his blessed family and blessed companions. Some are of the opinion that without mentioning the word “Ale” the Durood is not acceptable. Durood upon the beloved Habeeb – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – is a manner of displaying respect for the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – which has been commanded by Allah Almighty. It implies that one is imploring Allah Almighty to further increase the status of his religion in this world and the next, to continue to allow his Shari’ah to exist and be further established in this world, and to allow us to be blessed with his intercession on the Day of Judgement.
Issue:
There are many excellences which have been presented on the Durood Shareef. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – has stated that whosoever sends Durood upon him, the Angels will make Du’a for their forgiveness. In the Sahih Muslim, it is mentioned that whoever sends a single Durood upon him, Allah Almighty will bless that person ten times. In the Tirmidi Shareef, it is mentioned that, that person is indeed a miser who does not read the Durood when his name is being mentioned. There are numerous other Ahadith which can one present in this regard.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Talha Ansari – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:
Once Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – arrived and he looked extremely pleased and the signs of happiness was visible on his face.
I then asked, ‘Today, the Messenger of Allah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – seems highly pleased.’
He replied, ‘Revelation has just come from my Lord that whichever person in your Ummah recites a single Durood Shareef upon you, Allah Almighty will record ten rewards for him and ten sins of his will be pardoned and he will be raised tenfold in status.’” (Imam Tabarani, Tafseer ibn Katheer)
