Hadrat Sayyiduna Abi ‘Umaamah – may Allah be pleased with him – states that one day Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – asked, “Who has spent the morning in fasting.”

The people remained quiet. However, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, ‘O Prophet of Allah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him! It is I, O Prophet of Allah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.’ He then asked, ‘Who had given Sadqah (charity) to a needy person today?’

The people remained silent but Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, ‘It is I, O Prophet of Allah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.’

He then asked, ‘Who had performed the Janazah Salaah today?’

The people remained silent but Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, ‘It is I, O Prophet of Allah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him’.

He then asked, ‘Who had visited a sick person today?’

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – replied that he had done so.

When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard this, he smiled and mentioned, ‘I swear by that Divine Being Who had sent me with the Truth, today, in whichever person these qualities are found together, he will enter Jannah.’” (Ar Riyaz Al Asar)
