It is mentioned that once Yazeed bin Mu’awiyah, who was a famous leader of his era, mentioned to his friends, “I wonder whether it is possible for a person to spend the entire day without sadness and stress. However, I have the intention that I would like to create such a day for myself in which there will be no sadness and grief.”

 

He then arranged a large party in his court and made sure that the entire hall was decorated with fancy flowers and bouquets. He also had a female slave who was considered as his favourite slave. Her name was Hinaanah. She was very pretty and compared to everyone else in the palace, she also had the best voice. He then placed her behind a covering and between him and the people there was a sheet. In other words, he could see the people in his palace and he could also see this pretty female servant of his. This continued until the time of Asr.

 

One of the guests also presented a ripe pomegranate to Yazeed. He broke this in half and handed one half of this to his female slave who was behind the curtain. However, while she was eating this fruit a large part of its seeds got stuck in her throat and she instantly fell dead. Thereafter, Yazeed experienced such grief that he did not live much longer after this incident. It is said that he died four days after this incident. Allah Almighty knows best.
