It is mentioned that during the time of the Bani Israel, there was a person who had a wife that was very pretty and she was also considered one of the beautiful females of her era. Obviously, her husband was also extremely attached to her.
One day this lady died and in extreme grief, the husband began to spend the rest of his days sitting near her grave. One day, while he was sitting near her grave crying, Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him – walked past. He asked this person the reason for his grief and he explained the entire incident to Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him.
Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him – then asked him, “Do you wish that I bring this wife of yours back from the dead?”
The person was extremely happy and agreed to this. Thereafter, Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him –addressed the grave and asked the person to come alive. However, a black slave appeared from this grave and his state was such that there were flames appearing from his nose, his ears, his eyes, etc. When this person saw Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him, he read, “La ilaaha illal laahu Esa Roohullah” and brought Imaan on Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him.
When the person saw this, he explained, “O Prophet of Allah Almighty I had made a mistake, this was not the grave of my wife.”
He then pointed to another grave. Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him –then pointed to this grave and suddenly a female appeared from the grave during the sand off her hair. The person also mentioned to Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him – that this was his wife who had died.
Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him – then informed him to take his wife and leave. As he travelled from there, since he was extremely tired, he felt very sleepy. He then informed his wife that he would like to rest and he then placed his head on his wives thighs and dozed off. While he was sleeping, a prince happen to go by who noticed this young pretty lady and she was also impressed by this good looking prince. She also became infatuated with this young prince. She then placed the head of her husband on the ground and decided to leave with this young prince.
When the husband awoke, he did not find his wife with him and decided to search for her. He also found her prints on the ground and decided to follow this. When he found her she was in the company of this young prince. He told this prince that this female was his wife and that he should leave her alone. However, his wife interjected and said, “I am actually the female slave of this prince.” This also made the prince brave and he accused this person of trying to steal his slave.
The person kept insisting that this was his wife and she had been brought back to life by his master, Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him. While this argument was going on, Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him – happened to walk past as well.
The person then turned to Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him – and asked, “O Roohullah! Is this not my wife which you have brought from the dead?”
Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him – replied that this was indeed his wife. The person then said that this prince was claiming that this was his female slave.
Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him – then looked at this female as asked, “Are you not that female who I had brought alive through the Divine Permission of Almighty Allah?”
She replied, “I swear that I am not that female.”
When he heard this, Nabi ‘Isa – peace be upon him – declared, “Whatever I had given, I take that back.”
The moment he mentioned these words, the female fell dead on the ground. The great Prophet then declared, “Whoever wishes to see someone who died a disbeliever and then was brought back to life and then died as a believer, he should see the black slave. Whoever wishes to see a person died as a believer and then was brought back to life and died a Kaafir, should see this female.”
The husband then swore that he will never marry again and then retired to the mountains to spend the rest of his days in Ibadah. (Al Nawaadir Al Qalyubi)
