The Muslims should bear in mind that if the Allah Almighty had intended for a Muslim to remain in Hell forever, He would have never opened the heart of a Muslim to believing in One Creator. In Surah Lail, verses 14 to 16:

اِنَّ عَلَیۡنَا لَلْہُدٰی ﴿۫ۖ۱۲﴾ وَ اِنَّ لَنَا لَلْاٰخِرَۃَ وَ الْاُوۡلٰی ﴿۱۳﴾ فَاَنۡذَرْتُکُمْ نَارًا تَلَظّٰی ﴿ۚ۱۴﴾

Therefore warn you of the Fire that is ablaze. None except the most wicked will enter it. The one who denied and turned away.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Qatadah – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that they were informed that there were people in the days of ignorance who had performed many sins and when they accepted Islam, they were fearful on whether their sins would be pardoned. In reply to this, Allah Almighty revealed the verses in Surah Zumar 53, which is:

قُلْ یٰعِبَادِیَ الَّذِیۡنَ اَسْرَفُوۡا عَلٰۤی اَنۡفُسِہِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوۡا مِنۡ رَّحْمَۃِ اللہِ ؕ اِنَّ اللہَ یَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوۡبَ جَمِیۡعًا ؕ اِنَّہٗ ہُوَ الْغَفُوۡرُ الرَّحِیۡمُ ﴿۵۳﴾

Proclaim, (O Muhammad) ‘O my slaves, who have wronged themselves, do not lose

hope in Allah’s mercy; indeed Allah forgives all sins; indeed He only is the Oft Forgiving,

the Most Merciful.”

This incident is mentioned in Tafseer Tabari.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – has stated that, “If you commit so much of sin that it even reaches the sky and then make Taubah, certainly Allah Almighty will pardon you.” (Sunan Ibn Maja)

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – has also stated that Allah Almighty has declared, “O My slaves, you spend your day and night in sinning and I continue to pardon you. This is nothing to Me. Therefore, seek pardon from Me and I will pardon you.” (Sahih Muslim Shareef)

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Moosa Ash’ari – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – has stated that, “There is no doubt that in the evening, Allah Almighty spreads His Divine Powers of Mercy so that those who have sinned in the day can be pardoned and in the day, He spreads His Divine Powers of Mercy so that those who have sinner in the night can be pardoned. This continues until the break of dawn.” (Sahih Muslim Shareef)

Hadrat Sayyiduna Aanis bin Malik – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – has mentioned that he heard Allah Almighty declare, “O children of Adam! Even if your sins reach the heavens and then you ask to be pardoned I will pardon you. And this is nothing to Me. O children of Adam! Even if you arrive in my Divine Court with sins equal to the earth, I will pardon you according to that on condition that you do not associate any partners with Me.” (Jamia Tirmidi)
