In another report, it is mentioned that the reason that the marauding Mongols accepted Islam was through the blessing of Hadrat Baba Fareed – may Allah be pleased with him – albeit indirectly. The background to the story is as follows:

 

It is mentioned that once, his eminent Khalifah, Hadrat Sayyiduna Jamaaludeen – may Allah be pleased with him, was once reading Salaah in a certain jungle. The son of Halakuh Khan was also in the same jungle on a hunting trip. This son was going to be the next in line after Halakuh Khan. When he heard the Qur’an being read by Shaikh Jamaaludeen – may Allah be pleased with him – he was completely captivated. He then approached the Shaikh after he completed the Salaah and said to him, “I have had the opportunity of listening to the Qur’an been recited by you and I am certain that this is indeed the Word of Allah Almighty. However, today, I will not accept Islam. When my father Halukhan Khan dies, at that time, you must approach me and I will accept Islam.”

 

When this young man came into power, at that time Shaikh Jamaaludeen – may Allah be pleased with him – had passed away. However, he left a final advice to his Khalifah that the son of Halukhan had promised that he would accept Islam once he came into power. Therefore, this Khalifah should approach him and remind him of his promise. When the Khalifah of the Shaikh Jamaaludeen – may Allah be pleased with him – approached the son of Halukhan Khan and described the events which had taken place in a certain jungle and that he had promised to accept Islam once he came into power, this person remembered him and he also accepted that this was indeed the rightful Khalifah of Shaikh Jamaaludeen – may Allah be pleased with him.

 

The ruler immediately accepted that he would accept Islam. There was an enemy in this court in the form of a Shia whose name was Naseerudeen Tusi. Naseerudeen Tusi jumped up and said, “This cannot be accepted just like this. The condition is that a hot metal liquid should be swallowed by this person and only then should the ruler accept Islam.”

 

The Khalifah mentioned that this was not part of the initial agreement, however Naseerudeen Tusi insisted that this be the condition for the ruler to accept Islam. A hot metal was then melted and placed in a container and everyone was shocked to see that the Khalifah of Shaikh Jamaaludeen – may Allah be pleased with him – swallowed this as one would swallow sharbat and no harm came to him.

 

However, this person of Hell, Naseerudeen Tusi, came forward again and said, “At this moment, there are only a few people around the ruler and it is not proper that he accepts Islam in view of a small group. He also has to change a complete region, therefore, this should be done in front of the public. When people see this, they will also accept the new religion.

 

“A special day was then set to make this public announcement. It was also mentioned that the Khalifah had to wrestle the most powerful wrestler in the kingdom and if he defeated this wrestler, then the ruler would accept Islam. This condition of fighting against a powerful wrestler was another evil plot of Tusi. Obviously, everyone was certain that this strong and mighty wrestler who appeared as giant would completely destroy this thin and frail looking derwish. However, the Khalifah held one arm of this wrestler and threw him to the floor. Later on, when people questioned this wrestler, he mentioned that he found himself completely useless in front of this Faqeer and he seemed to have lost all his power. Suffice to say that when everyone saw this, the ruler accepted Islam.”
