Hadrat Sayyiduna Khalid bin Waleed – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that when Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – returned from Umrah, he received a letter from his brother inviting him to Islam. He mentions that this letter encouraged him even further towards accepting the message of Islam.
He continues, “This also substantiated my dream where I saw that I was in a small and closed place and had left this place towards a lush green open area.
“I then prepared myself to leave for Madina Shareef. I also wanted a companion who would accompany me on this journey. I approached Sufyan bin Ummayah and said to him, ‘Can you not see that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – has captured all the Arabs and non-Arabs? If we go to him and follow him, this would be better for us.’
“But Safwaan gave me a very angry reply and said to me, ‘If everyone on earth becomes obedient to Muhammad except me, still too, I will not obey him.’
“I then went to Akamah bin Abi Jahl and said the same thing to him what I had mentioned to Safwaan. However, he also gave me the same answer. I thought that perhaps since his father and brother had been killed in Badr, this is why he is still angry.
“I then met Uthman bin Talha and mentioned the same thing which I had mentioned to the first two, however, he accepted my invitation and said that we will meet in a certain place outside Mecca Shareef. He also said that whoever arrived early, should wait for the other.
“As we travelled together, we met Amar bin Al Aas on the road at a place called Haddah. We then greeted each other and I asked him where he was travelling to. He replied, ‘I am going to accept Islam and I am travelling to obey Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.’ We mentioned to him that we had also left with the same intention.”
He continues, “The three of us then entered Madina Shareef. We left our horses at a place called Haddah and the news of our arrival had already reached Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him-. It is mentioned that when he received news of our arrival, he was extremely pleased and happy. He also mentioned, ‘Mecca had thrown out its beloved.’”
He continues, “I then wore clean clothing and started to walk towards his blessed court. On the road, I met my brother, who mentioned to me that I should hurry because Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – was waiting for me. He was also very happy with my arrival and he is expecting me. He also agreed to walk with me and we presented ourselves in his blessed court.
“When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – saw me, he smiled and I greeted him. He replied with a very warm tone. I then recited the Kalimah. He then asked me to come nearer. He then said, ‘All Praise is due to Allah Who has given you the strength to accept Islam. I used to notice that you were someone who had intelligence and I used to have hope that the intelligence of yours would guide you towards goodness and noble deeds.”
