Hadrat Sayyiduna Humaid bin Hilaal – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that once Ala bin Hadrami – may Allah be pleased with him – collected Jizyah from the people of Bahrain and sent it to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. In fact, it was so much which they had never received previously. It was about eighty thousand Dinaars which was spread out on the ground. It was announced that whoever wanted any money was welcome to come forward. There was no practise to count (people took as much as they wanted).

 

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – then appeared with his shawl and gathered a very large amount. However, when he wanted to carry it, he could not manage to carry it.  At that time, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – was also standing nearby and watching. Hadrat Sayyiduna Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – then asked Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – to place this on his head. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – smiled and said to him, “Make it less, as much as you can carry.” (Tafseer ibn Katheer)
