It is mentioned that there was a person who used to live on a certain plain. He had a rooster that woke him up for Salaah, a dog that used to protect him against any thieves and he had a donkey that used to transport his goods and carry water for him.

One day, he visited a nearby village and began to have a conversation with the people. While he was sitting with them, he received news that the foxes had eaten his rooster. When he heard this sad news, he replied, “If this is what Allah Almighty has willed, it is for the better.”

He then received news that his dog had died and when he heard this sad news he replied, “This would also be for the better.”

A few minutes later, he received news that the wolves had attacked his donkey and killed it. He replied, “Very soon, this would also be better.”

However, the people who were sitting with him were actually the people who had committed all of these crimes. In other words, they had stolen these three things from this person while he sat with them.

After sitting with these people for a few minutes, he then decided to return to his camp. In the morning, when he noticed the camp of his neighbours, he noticed that they had been surrounded by thieves and highwaymen. The reason that these thieves had found these people was because they heard the sounds of the rooster, the dog and the donkey coming from the tents of these people.

From this incident, even though they had robbed him, it turned against them and all three things became a source of their destruction. This person also returned from this area without being harmed. (Al Qalyubi)

Some people narrate that once they bought some fried meat from their neighbours. At that time a poor person was also walking past. The fried meat was actually a complete carcass of a new-born baby lamb which these people had roasted.

This poor person agreed to eat with these people. As he placed the food near his mouth, he then took the meat and threw it away. He moved away from these people who had invited him. He also informed them that he felt extreme dislike for this piece of meat and that is why he could not eat it. When he said that he was not prepared to eat this meat, they also refused to eat it. However, he said that he was Faqeer and that he could not eat. He told them that they were free to eat this meat. However, by then they were already in doubt about the meat.

They said, “We then called the person from whom we had bought this roasted carcass from and questioned him about it. He then revealed that this lamb was actually found dead and they had not made proper Zabah of it but because they were greedy for the money, they had roasted it and sold it without anyone knowing. We then fed this to the dogs. We came to know the secret behind this story. We called the poor person and asked him why he had refused to eat this meat even though he was unaware that it was a dead carcass, he replied, ‘I swear by Allah Almighty that for a few years now, I had no greed to eat meat. However, when you people called me to eat this roasted meat, I felt an immense greed inside me to eat this meat and I realised then, that there was something wrong in this issue. This is why I refused to eat with you people.’”

From this, we come to realise that Almighty Allah certainly protects His special servants from this type of evil. (Al Qalyubi)
