Sayyidah Ayesha – may Allah be pleased with her – narrates that, “Once people complained to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – about the immense drought and total lack of rain. He then ordered that a Mimbar be placed on the Eid Ghah. When the Mimbar was placed, all the people gathered. He then went on the Mimbar and praised the Allah Almighty. He then said, ‘You people had complained about the drought and the lack of rain. Allah Almighty has given command that you should make Du’a and He will accept the Du’a.’

 

He then said, “All Praise is for Allah Almighty, please send rain upon us which is beneficial for us.”

 

He then raised his hands until the white underside of his blessed arm pits could be seen. He turned towards the people and turned his shawl over. He then alighted from the Mimbar and performed two rak’ah of Salaah Istisqah. Immediately, the rain clouds could be seen and with it came lightning and thunder. Thereafter, with the Divine Command of Allah Almighty, rain began to appear. In fact it rained so hard that even before they could reach their houses, long channels of water began to appear on the side of the road. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – looked towards the people, he noticed that people were rushing so that they could protect themselves against the heavy downpour. He smiled and he smiled to such an extent that his blessed teeth became visible. (Athaar As Sunan)
