Hadrat Sayyidah Hafsah – may Allah be pleased with her – mentions that one evening Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – arrived in her quarters and he rested his blessed head on her arms. She explains that she was running her fingers through his beard and her brother, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – commenced with the Qur’an. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard this, he immediately arose. She explains that she placed her blessed head on his side and rested for a while.

When the verse was recited that on the Day of Judgement there will be some who will not see their Creator, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – began to weep and some his blessed tears fell on her. She says that she then held his blessed head and after a few moments, she inquired from him, “Are you weeping because of Jannah.” He replied that no he was weeping because of this.

I then asked him, “Are you weeping because of fear for the Fire of Hell?”

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – replied that he was weeping in deep earnest and yearning (for the Creator) and he continued to weep in this fashion until his tears fell on the floor.

In the Hadith Shareef it is mentioned that if a person weeps in the world for fear of Allah, on the Day of Judgement we will enter Jannah while he is smiling.

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – was then asked as to who is a Wali and he replied, “That person whose face has become pale through being awake and through his tears his eyes have become weak”.

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had also stated that a person who weeps in private in fear of Allah, on the Day of Judgement, he will be under the Shade of the Divine Arsh.

It is mentioned that Nabi Yahya – peace be upon him – used to weep so much that part of his flesh also fell away with his tears. (Jaleesun Naasiheen)

Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that once Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – ran towards a certain grave. When he reached the grave, he turned towards the Qiblah, fell in Sajdah and began to weep. He spent a few moments like this. He then raised his blessed head and he became joyous and held the grave. He then continued towards the Masjid. I then asked him the reason for these action and he explained, “The person was getting punished and he had called out to me because he mentioned that there was Fire all around him. I then asked Allah Almighty the reason for this punishment and Allah Almighty replied that this person used to speak rudely in the world and I then made Du’a to Allah Almighty and Allah Almighty pardoned the person.”

Once the blessed Ashaab asked him to make Du’a to Allah Almighty so that his Ummah would find ease in the punishment of the grave. Jibra’eel Ameen immediately appeared and mentioned to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – that whichever Ummah of his reads two rak’ah of Salaah on a Friday in such a manner that after the Surah Fatiha, he recites Ayatul Kursi once, three times surah Zilzaal, Allah Almighty will protect him from the punishment of the grave.
