It is mentioned that Hafiz Abul Abbas Siraaj Khurasani – may Allah be pleased with him – was an eminent Muhaddith of his era. He had immense respect and reverence for the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. It is also reported that as a token of his dedication to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, he once dedicated the recital of twelve thousand recitals of the Holy Qur’an to the blessed soul of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.
It is also reported that Hafiz Abul Abbas Siraaj Khurasani – may Allah be pleased with him – sacrificed twelve thousand animals in the name of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.
Once he saw a dream that he was climbing a staircase and there were ninety nine steps on this staircase. When he inquired about the meaning of this dream, he was told that he would live until the age of ninety nine. That is exactly what happened. He passed away at this age.
Another interesting story is told about his dislike for the people of Baghdad. He was once asked about why he had decided not to settle in Baghdad and he replied, “My brother lived in Baghdad for fifty years. When he passed away and his Janaza was been taken, someone inquired as to whose Janaza this was and another person replied, ‘This Janaza belongs to an outsider’. When I heard this remark, I decided that I will never live in Baghdad again.’ He passed away in the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal 313 A.H. (Tadkiratul Huffaz, 270)
