There is a difference of opinion on the name of Fudaalah bin Umair bin Mulawwah Laithi – may Allah be pleased with him. Some have said that it is Fudaalah bin Wahb and others have mentioned Fudaalah bin Abdullah while some have mentioned Fudaalah bin Umair. During the conquest of Mecca Shareef, he used to worship idols. He was also famous with the name of Abdullah Az Zahraani and his son Abdullah also narrates from him.

Ibn Hishaam mentions that Fudaalah bin Umair set out with the intention of killing the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – during the time when Mecca Shareef was conquered. At that moment, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – was making Tawaaf. When Fudaalah approached him, he asked, “O Fudaalah! Are you the one who is Fudaalah?” He replied, “Yes of Prophet of Allah! I am Fudaalah.” The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – asked him, “What plan have you hidden inside your heart?” Fudaalah replied, “Nothing, I am merely making the Dhikr of Allah.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – merely smiled and mentioned to him that he should seek protection in Allah Almighty. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then placed his blessed hand on the chest of Fudaalah. Fudaalah felt extreme peace and tranquility. He then accepted Islam.

Later on, Hadrat Sayyiduna Fudaalah – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions, “I swear by Allah, even before the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – could remove his blessed hand, there was no one more beloved to me in creation than the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.” (Seerat Ibn Hishaam; Al Bidaayah wan Nihaayah)
