Hadrat Sayyiduna Siddi – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates the following incident. He mentions:

There was once a King who ruled with great pomp and dignity and was in the pit of comfort and pleasure. He also had a son whose name was Khidr. He was extremely pious and noble. One day, the brother of this King approached the King and mentioned that he should be thinking of an heir to his throne because he was not getting any younger. He also mentioned that since Khidr displayed no interest in being the next ruler, he should get him married and maybe, there might be a son from this marriage through which another heir could be found. In this way, the power of the kingdom could remain in this family.

The King was very pleased with the suggestion of his brother and called his son to his court. He then advised him that it was time for him to get married. However, Khidr mentioned that he was not interested in marriage. The King obviously became angry with this reply and insisted that he had to get married. When the young man saw the insistence of his father, he finally agreed that he would get married.

The father then had him married to a princess from another family. However, on the night of the wedding, the prince approached his wife and said to her, “I have no interest in any female. If you wish to stay with me, then you should continue to make the Ibadah of Allah Almighty and I will support you from the royal fund. However, there can be no husband and wife relationship between us. If you wish to live in this fashion, then it is fine. If not, then I am prepared to divorce you.”

However, his wife who was also extremely pious replied that she was prepared to accept his conditions and that she was prepared to spend her entire life worshipping the Allah Almighty by his side.

Her husband also told her, “You must never reveal this secret of ours to anyone. I also promise you that if you keep this secret of mine, Allah Almighty will always safeguard you. And if you reveal this secret of mine then certainly you will be destroyed.”

His wife promised that she will keep this secret of his. In this way, both the husband and wife continued every moment of their day and night in the Ibadah on Allah Almighty without anyone knowing.

After one year of marriage, there had no children. Apparently, the King was extremely worried. He then called his daughter-in-law and mentioned to her that she was young and his son was also young. How come they had no children after one year of marriage?

The young girl replied, “Children are gift from Allah Almighty. Whenever He wishes, He will grant us with children.”

The King then called his son and asked him the same question and again, he gave the same answer as his wife.

The King began to think that maybe this young girl was unable to bear children and perhaps it would be better for this son of his to marry a female who had already had children and had been married previously. He then called his son and asked him to give his young wife Talaaq. However, the young man replied, “I appeal to you. Please do not allow me to divorce this girl because she is very noble and pious and certainly a female who has the most beautiful of qualities.”

However, the King insisted that he divorce his wife. He was then forced to divorce his wife.

He was then married to a female who already had children from her previous marriage. When the young man approached this female on the night of the marriage, he mentioned the same thing to her which he had mentioned to his first wife. She also agreed to this and continued to spend the night in Ibadah like her husband. Again, the marriage was not consummated.

After one year, there was still no children and again the King became extremely worried. The King then called this lady and said to her, “In your previous marriage, you did have children and yet, you are unable to bear any children after being married to my son. This is in spite of the fact that you are not someone who is unable to have children and neither is my son unable to have children.”

When she heard these words from the King, she replied, “Children are only born when there is a consummation between husband and wife. Your son spends all his time in the Ibadah of Allah and not once, has he ever touched me.”

When the King heard this, he became extremely angry and asked the guards to bring his son to him. However, the son had already escaped from the palace. Three guards then went in search of the prince and they finally managed to capture him. As they decided to bring him back to the palace, two of the guards insisted that he be brought back while the third guard mentioned, “Please do not be severe of the prince. If you take him back to the King, possibly, in his anger, he might kill this prince who seems extremely pious and noble. It is better that we leave him in this state.”

The other two then agreed to this and they all returned to the palace empty-handed. When they were in the prersence of the King and he asked them what had happened, the two guards mentioned that they had managed to capture him but their companion insisted that they spare the prince.

The King became extremely angry with the third guard and ordered that he be imprisoned. However, the King began to think carefully thereafter and then decided to call the two guards before him. When they appeared, he said to them, “It seems like you people have frightened my son and this is the reason that he has gone far away from me.” He then called the executioner and had both of them beheaded.

The King then called the second wife of his son and said to her, “You revealed a deep secret of my son and this is the reason that he has now gone far away from me. If you have kept his secret, today, he would still be in front me.” He then commanded this female also be beheaded.

He then called the third guard and the first wife of his son and informed them, “You people are free to go wherever you wish. From my side, you have been pardoned.”

This pious female then began to live in a small house near the main door of the city. She used to cut wood and manage to care for herself in this manner. One day, a poor person approached this small house and began to read the “Bismillah Shareef.”

When this lady heard the Divine Name of Allah Almighty been recited she came outside and asked the person, “O traveller! Are you aware of Allah Almighty and do you have Imaan on that Divine Being Who has no partners?”

He replied that he believed in the One Divine Creator that he was a friend of Khidr, the prince.

Both of them were then married. Allah Almighty also blessed them with many children.

However, later on, this female was employed as one of the female servants to the daughter of Pharaoh. One day, while she was combing the hair of this princess, the comb fell from her hand and without realizing it, she said “Subhaanallah” (Glory be to Allah).

When the Kaafir daughter of Pharaoh heard these words, she asked, “Are you praising my father, Pharaoh?”

This pious lady replied, “No, I am certainly not praising your father. I am praising Allah Almighty, Who is the Lord of Pharaoh. He is also my Lord and the Lord of all creation. He is the Creator of all creation and only He is entitled to be worshipped. He has no partners.”

When the Kaafir daughter of Pharaoh heard these words, she mentioned that she would certainly bring it to the attention of her father that this person does not think of him as her lord. However, the pious lady was completely unafraid and mentioned that she could do whatever she wished.

When this was revealed to Pharaoh, he called this female to him and asked her, “I have heard that you accept another Lord besides me. Peace and safety is in this, that you divorce your religion and accept me as your lord or else there is terrible punishment which awaits you.”

However, the brave female mentioned, “You may do as you wish, I will never even commit Shirk.”

When Pharaoh heard these words, he was terribly angry. He then commanded his guards to heat oil in a copper pot. When the oil began to boil one of her children were taken and thrown into this hot oil. A few minutes later, only the bones of this child were seen floating on top of the pot.

Again, the tyrant Pharaoh asked, “Are you prepared to accept me as your lord?”

She replied, “Never. My Creator is that Creator who has created the entire universe and everything belongs to him.”

When he heard this reply, Pharaoh then called for another child and had this child thrown into the hot pot of oil. Again, he invited this female towards Shirk and again she refused.

He then again took another child of hers and threw this child into the pot. The female did not utter a word of complaint even though all her children had been martyred and insisted that she would never believe in anyone as he lord, except the Divine Creator.

Pharaoh then ordered his guards that this female also be thrown into the hot oil. As they were taking this female towards the pot, Pharaoh asked her whether she had any last wishes. She replied that she had one wish. She said that when she becomes sheer bones in this pot, this pot be taken to her house and placed inside the house and the entire house be demolished over this pot. In this manner, her entire house would be become her grave and the grave of her family. Pharaoh agreed to this final wish. She was then thrown into this hot pot of oil and a few minutes later, only her bones appeared on top of the pot.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – has stated that, “During the night of Me’raj, I once smelt a most beautiful fragrance as I was a passing by and I asked Jibra’eel Ameen what this was and he replied, ‘This is the fragrance of that female servant of Pharaoh’s daughter and the fragrance of her children.’”

Can you imagine the steadfastness of this female and absolute certainty she had in Allah Almighty. There is no doubt that this is certainly a great gift which she was blessed with. She was prepared to sacrifice her entire family but was not prepared to sacrifice her belief in the One Divine Creator. She gave her own life but not prepared to compromise. Only those who have true Imaan will understand the true value of Imaan.

These are those people who are prepared to give their heads but not their Imaan. In fact, when a person has this type of Imaan, all sadness in the world means nothing to him or her. If a person has hardly any wealth or possessions in this world and yet has Imaan, and leaves this world with this Imaan, indeed they have left this world with immense wealth. Every Muslim should always endeavour to protect and safeguard their Imaan. In fact, one of the most important advices is that when a person is about to sleep, they should make the Niyyah of performing Salaatut Taubah.
