It is mentioned that the mannerisms of Hadrat Moulana Shah Fakhrudeen was one of kindness and support for the people. When he saw another person in difficulty, he never used to rest until he did not help the person.
One day, he was travelling for Hajj but on the road, an old lady approached him and said, “I wish to perform the marriage of my daughter. But at this moment, I am very poor. If you can help me, then this important duty on me will also be complete.”
This famous Shah Saheb then took all his belongings which he was taking for Hajj and handed it to this old person. He then returned to the city of Delhi. His habit was such that he could not manage to see another person in difficulty. Even his enemies were amazed and impressed by his behaviour. (Manaaqib Fakhriyah)
Once, a person from Afghanistan entered his blessed court and attacked him while he was sitting with others. However, his Mureeds managed to capture this person. He then asked them to leave the person alone and he then placed his head in front of the person and informed him, “This servant is ready, you may do whatever you wish, no one will hold you accountable.”
This person was extremely embarrassed. He then left and returned a few minutes later with some of his friends. The Saint then stood up to greet them. He welcome them and his behaviour earlier on seemed to have greatly affected them. They had approached him with the intention of seeking pardon. (Taarikhe Mashaa’ikh-e-Chist)
In the Malfuz of Hadrat Shah Mohammed Sulayman Tunsawi – may Allah be pleased with him – it is written that there were ten doors in the court of Hadrat Awranghabadi – may Allah be pleased with him – and in front of each door, there was a clerk. Whatever the person needed, this clerk used to record it on a piece of paper and this was then sealed with the official seal of Hadrat Awrangh Abadi – may Allah be pleased with him. This letter was then presented to any of the rich and influential people of that locality and they considered it a great honour to abide by the instructions of this eminent Saint.
Feeding people.
One day, while describing the benefit and reward of this action, Khawaja Nizaamudeen – may Allah be pleased with him – explained the following incident.
“There is no doubt that this is indeed a very noble act. Once, Khawaja Ali Pasar and Shaikh Ruknudeen Chisti were captured by the army of Chenkhez Khan. They were then presented in front of this tyrant. There was a Mureed in this blessed family that was also present when this happened. He also had a great influence in the army of Chenkhez Khan. When he saw Khawaja Ali among the prisoners, he was extremely surprised and began to think of a way of freeing this Saint. At the same time, he wondered how he would present this subject in the court of the tyrant. He thought that if he mentions that this prisoner is someone who is able to perform miracles, it would make no sense in the court of this tyrant and if he mentioned that this was a sincere slave in the Divine Court of the Allah Almighty who was always in Ibadah, even that would make no sense to this tyrant.
“After thinking carefully about this, he then approached Chenkhez Khan and said to him, ‘There was a person whose father was indeed a very pious person. He used to feed people and therefore, he should be freed.’
Chenkhez Khan then asked, “Did he feed his own people or those who were also against him?”
He replied, “Everyone feeds their own people, this person used to feed even those who were against him.”
When he heard this, the tyrant replied, “How noble is that person who even feeds those who are against him.”
He then commanded that this person be immediately released. He was given a few presents by the tyrant who also apologised to him. (Fawaa’idul Fawaad)
