Hadrat Sayyiduna Huzaifah bin Qatadah Mir’ashi – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates, “Once we were travelling in a boat and people were looking at the wonderful creation of Allah Almighty as they travelled. The sea was also calm. However a few minutes later, the weather suddenly changed and a strong wind completely destroyed the ship and most of the passengers. A female and I managed to grab a piece of timber and reach safety. We continued to float on the water for seven days without any food and drink. On the seventh day, the female asked me for some water. I felt extremely sorry for her and then made Du’a in the Divine Court of Almighty Allah to please help this female.

 

“Before I could complete my Du’a, I saw a chain appear from the heavens and at the end of this chain there was a container of water which was extremely sweet. The female gave thanks to the Almighty Allah and drank this water. I looked towards the chain and noticed a person sitting in the sky holding this chain. I asked this person who he was and he explained that he was also a human like other men. I asked him how he had managed to acquire such a lofty status and he replied that he was someone who had always preferred to obey the Divine Command of the Almighty Allah over his own Nafs.” (Uyunul Hikaayah)
