It is reported that Zaid bin Amar bin Nufail bin Abdul ‘Uzza, who was the cousin of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – May Allah be pleased with him, and he was someone who continued to seek for the true religion before the advent of Islam. He was also someone who sought to find out the true beliefs of Deen-e-Ebrahim – peace be upon him. He never consumed meat what was sacrificed for any idols and never sacrificed any animals in the name of any idol. At the same time, he never consumed any animals which were found dead.

One day, he decided to travel with Waraqah bin Nufal with the intention of seeking for the truth. While on the road, a Jew presented his religion to both of them and Waraqah accepted the Jewish religion. However, Zaid did not accept this religion.

As they continued to travel, they met a Christian who presented his religion to them. Waraqah then accepted Christianity while Zaid replied, “All of these religions belong to our people and all of them are Mushriks.”

Zaid then went to visit a person who had divorced himself from the world to inquire about the true religion. This person mentioned to him that he was seeking a religion which did not exist in the world. He then asked this person about Deen-e-Ebrahim. The monk replied, “This religion entails that you worship only Allah Almighty and do not make partners with Him and that you worship facing the Ka’ba.”

Zaid then continued to remain on this path until he passed away.

It is also mentioned that one day when he went to visit Abu Sufyan, he also found the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – in his company. Abu Sufyan was eating while the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – did not. Abu Sufyan then invited Zaid to join him for a meal. However, Zaid replied, “My nephew! Those animals which have been sacrificed in the name of certain idols, I do not eat that food.”

After Islam was sent to this world, one day, Hadrat Saeed bin Zaid – May Allah be pleased with him – who is also one of those from the Ash’ara Mubashrah approached the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and asked, “Perhaps the news has reached you about the religion on which my father was in. Will you be able to make Du’a for him?” The Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – replied, “Yes indeed. I will certainly make Du’a for him and on the Day of Judgement, he will arise as a single Ummah.” (Nawaadir Al Qalyubi)
