Download PDF: [S] He Walked on the Water (Islamic story)
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman Azdi – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:
Once I was walking on the shores of the ocean near Beirut. I passed a person whose both feet were on the water and he was saying, “Glory be to that Allah Almighty Whose Throne is in the heavens and His command is on earth. That Divine Being Whose Power is in the atmosphere and whose control is over the oceans.”
He then remained silent.
I asked him, “What has happened, why you are alone?”
He replied, “Fear Allah Almighty and besides the truth speak nothing else. From the moment I was created, I have never been alone. Wherever I have found myself, my Creator has also been present. And there are two Angels who are in charge of my safety and protection.”
I asked him where he lived and he replied, “I do not have any specific place and nor do I have any specific residence.”
I asked him about his sustenance and he replied, “If I have any need for anything, then I silently mention this in my heart which my Lord is able to hear. This need of mine is then fulfilled.”
I asked him how he had achieved this state and he replied, “By staying away from people and having complete trust in the Allah Almighty and only asking the Allah Almighty for whatever I need.”
I asked him to make Du’a for me and he replied, “I am not a resident of this place, therefore, you are more entitled to make Du’a.”
I asked him to give me a specific command. He replied, “Stand at His Door with humbleness and do not leave His Divine Court. He will bless you with the quality of being His beloved slave.”
This person then continued to walk on the water until he disappeared from my sight.
These are those blessed people who spent their nights in the Ibadah of Allah Almighty. They do so in Sajdah, while standing, etc.
Sadrul Afaadil, Hadrat Moulana Syed Naeemudeen Muradabadi – may Allah be pleased with him – explains in the Khazaa’inul Irfaan that, “In other words, these are those blessed slaves of Allah Almighty who spend the complete night in the Ibadah of Allah Almighty. In fact, such is the Divine Mercy of the Allah Almighty that even those who spend a little time of the night in Ibadah, they are also considered as people who have spent the entire night in Ibadah.”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – mentions that, “That person who reads two or more rak’ah of Nafil Salaah after ‘Isha, he is considered as someone who had spent the night in Ibadah.”
In the Muslim Shareef, there is a Hadith reported by Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him – who states that, “He who performs the ‘Isha Salaah with congregation, he has received the reward of staying awake (in Ibadah) half of the night. He who performs the Fajr Salaah with congregation, he is like someone who has spent the entire night in Ibadah.” (Ar Roaud Al Faa’iq)
