It is mentioned that Hadrat Sayyiduna Makhdum Jahaanghir Samnani – may Allah be pleased with him – was an eminent Saint of his time. His blessed Mazaar is found in the village of Kichocha Shareef in the district of Faizabad in India. Hundreds of people continue to visit the blessed grave of this Saint on a daily basis. It is also mentioned that he travelled quiet extensively.

 

Once, he was the guest of a certain leader on the border with China. As a test, this person had two roosters slaughtered. One which he had acquired through Halaal means and the other through Haraam means. All of this food was then placed on the table.

 

However the great Saint continued to look at other food but did not look at the roosters. However, as a further test, both of these roosters were placed in front of the great Saint and the host insisted that he choose one of them. He then chose the rooster which was Halaal and pushed the other rooster to one side. He then boldly declared, “We Derwishes only consume that which is Halaal.”

 

When the host heard this reply, he was extremely embarrassed. It was also proven beyond a shadow of doubt that the Awliyah are fully aware of everything even though it may seem hidden in the eyes of the ordinary people. At the same time, they are also able to see the hidden thoughts of people like how they can clearly see the full moon. (Tadkirah Makhdum, 33)
