Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdul Malik bin Umair – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that Hadrat Sayyiduna Rabee bin Kharaash – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates the following incident. He narrates:

We were three brothers. The most pious among us was the second brother and he kept the most fast. One day, I left my two brothers and went for Jihad. When I finally returned home, I was told that this pious brother of mine was about to leave this world. In other words, he was close to death. However, when I reached his house, I was too late because he had passed away a few minutes earlier. The people had also covered him with a piece of cloth. I then went to bring a kafan for him. When I returned with the kafan, suddenly I noticed my brother pushing aside the cloth from his face. He then smiled at me and also greeted me. I replied to his greeting in a state of shock and asked him, “My dear brother! Have you come alive after death?” He replied, “Yes, I have come alive after death and after leaving you people, I had reached the Divine Court of Allah Almighty. My Lord is certainly pleased with me and He is not Angry with me at all. He had also gifted me with a green silk shawl and I have certainly found my condition much easier than you people. Therefore, you should hurry towards good deeds and do not display laziness and do not be oblivious of death.

After leaving this world, I was also blessed with seeing Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and in his immense mercy, he mentioned to me that, “As long as you do not appear in your grave, I will not leave this place. Therefore, please hurry in the last rites and do not delay because I will certainly meet Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.”

He then closed his eyes and his soul left his body with the same ease as when a stone is placed in water and it eases to the bottom.

It is mentioned that when this incident was narrated to Hadrat Sayyidah Ayesha – may Allah be pleased with her – she attested to this and also mentioned, “We used to mention that there will be a person in this Ummah who will speak even after he passes away.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Rabee in Kharaash – may Allah be pleased with him – also mentions that this brother of his used to stay awake for long periods during the coldest of nights in Ibaaah and during the hottest of days, he kept more fast than them. (Uyunul Hikaayah)
