It reported that the eminent Muhaddith, Hadrat Sayyiduna Waqee bin Al Jarrah – may Allah be pleased with him,- was considered as one of the most famous students of Imam A’zam, Imam Abu Hanifah – may Allah be pleased with him. He had immense love and respect for his teacher. Besides his immense knowledge, he was extremely pious and spent a lot of his time in spiritual penitence and Ibadah. One of his special qualities was that he had performed forty Hajj. He also spent forty days in Jihad in the expedition towards Aabadaan. During every day of his stay in this expedition, he completed the Qur’an once every day. In this manner, he completed the Qur’an forty times in this expedition. During his blessed life time, he had given away forty thousand Dirhams in charity. He is also reported to have mentioned forty thousand Ahadith. He never ever placed his back against anything during his life time. While returning from Hajj in the year 199 A.H. he passed away on the road towards Iraq.

 

There is no doubt that for a person to perform Jihad, perform Ibadah, complete the Qur’an educate people at the same time, are acts which are beyond the comprehension of people in the present age. At the same time, this type of behaviour can never be explained as anything except as a miracle. It is through the Divine Mercy of Allah Almighty that these blessed souls could perform these amazing deeds.

 

Sadly people of this immense stature and greatness cannot be seen in this period. In fact, in the present time, it is also difficult to actually find ‘Ulama that perform their Salaah with Jamaah. As for the performance of Nawaafil, that is something which is beyond them all together. We make Du’a that Allah Almighty blesses us with these amazing qualities and forbearance so that we can also please Allah Almighty in this manner. (Ruhani Hikaayah)
