Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Sa’eed Khudri – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that once Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – mentioned to people that, “Allah Almighty has given a slave a choice of the world or choosing that which is with Allah Almighty (in other words, death). That servant has chosen that which is with Allah Almighty.”

 

When Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – heard these words, he began to weep a lot. In fact tears flowed down his cheeks.

 

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Sa’eed Khudri – may Allah be pleased with him – explains, “We were indeed surprised at the weeping of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him. The reason is that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – did not take the name of any (specific person). We also wondered what had happened to Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him.

 

“However, later on, we came to realise that the person indicated in these words was actually Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. There is no doubt that Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – knew this better than us and he had immense foresight.” (Sahih Bukhari Shareef; Musnad Imam Ahmed)
